    The solution is pretty obvious, no release until water reaches the operational level, bypassing the penstocks just prevented generation , and made a drought worse.

    To follow up. Might I use your full name on this quote? "The desal plant there sounds like the same problems here also. By the time anything is approved, funded, and built... the service area has outgrown the solution and is outdated." (Here would be Los Vegas?) I'm finishing up a Water Watch editorial and the city of Rosarito is talking desal again after the other one went into litagation 10 years ago. Humanity likes to avoid reality. We all need toilets and most toilets need water. But it did get people's attention, now what would be their intention? To learn how to conserve? HA. Drought and lack are the only thing that forces conservation. Your new work will pay off in the future for sure. What is coming is going to need many clear heads and voices. You are one. In my way of thinking, there is a perfect set up for civil war. Wise ones for decades knew this was coming. So did we. KZread will always give us plenty of deniers. But those living in reality will benifit. Keep on keeping on!

  • @mojo.adventures

    Of course Martina! Thank you for asking👍 You're welcome to use anything we discuss here. Most important thing to me is that the information gets passed around. In regards to Las Vegas I'll tell you... we seem to be a bit ahead of the water reclamation curve, but we are falling behind in many other areas due to the uncontrolled growth. I think the "institutional cash buyer" problem is a bigger issue here in Las Vegas than even the water supply at this point in time. All we hear is promises of "more affordable housing" and "more inventory", but the growth won't stop and it seems NONE of it is affordable. Infrastructure has been neglected. We're having power outages right now like L.A. due to the excess usage by all the new homes. City leaders ignore the residents and cater towards outside interests, drawing in an elite rich new tax base. Locals and long time residents can't afford rent or to purchase and are becoming homeless by the week. Meanwhile, city leaders and developers work in cahoots to sell ENTIRE BRAND NEW developments to "homes for rent" corporations who can then price fix entire neighbourhoods and lock out more middle class locals. Then you get into the rabbit hole of water usage rates and excess usage fees and all that. Locals really feel like this is leading towards "Water World" where the "have's" get the clean, pure water, and the "have-not's" grovel in the mud bog together. The people and families who literally made Las Vegas from the 50's on are being replaced. I know I got off track, but desal seems to be a bigger focus in California and in Baja also where apparently it is much needed. I can see that becoming a big issue leading up to 2026. Even with the water situation worked out though, we can see from Las Vegas that different issues are right behind it. More water = more people = more problems.

    It sounds as if they are going ahead with repairs. From what I can tell (from press releases), they are going to line the discharge pipes with an epoxy coating. I picture this as similar to the sanitary sewer linings often seen in neighborhood projects wherein contractors install a green colored liner (activated by heat?) to extend the life of deteriorated sewer pipes.

  • @mojo.adventures
    @mojo.adventures26 күн бұрын

    Interesting info, thank you for that! I'm going to have to look into it now. That's pretty cool some viewers had actually suggested the epoxy lining. I've seen that process... looks like a sewer snake comes out the other end and cures then they just cut off the excess. Imagine the size of an industrial one...

    Is that required 9 million acre feet release by Lake Mead still valid? Last year, I think they were well below 8 million, thought that was because of all the water in California reservoir meant they didn't need it. But even this year, they'll need to do 18000 cfs average to get to 9 million acre feet release and they've been nowhere near that.

  • @mojo.adventures
    @mojo.adventures26 күн бұрын

    That figure apparently went down to 7.5 million acre feet this year from the voluntary cuts. This was pointed out to us by @dobrinich channel (another good water update KZreadr!) I started doing the outflow calculations now based on the 7.5 maf. That's what the 71% outflow is based off of in this video. I'll tell you kayaking below the dam would be NO FUN at 18000 cfs but would make for a heck of a tube float 😂

    Install smaller diameter pipe from above to below the damaged section with flared ends,welded to existing pipe. Install additional metal along the bottom section if needed. Reducing inlet flow to slow cavation. Lower flow better than no flow.

    WOW look at you! I am subscribed, but just ran across this on KZread. Your new grafics are pro, and branching out. Is this a preparation for the impending reallotment of water negotiations? I have learned that Baja, Mx has already been cut 33%. They have funding now of 1/2 billion dollars US for one desal plant (but investigation suggests desal of any impact goes for a full billion dollars per plant) But for the corruption it would have been built 15 years ago. It is so far off the coast, I'm not sure how they will get the pipes to the water....as it will cut through the heaviest part of the tourist section of Rosarito. Sigh. it would have helped 15 years ago. But population has nearly doubled. Now they will need at least 2 more, as development has not slowed, but actually ramped. Condos sprouting up like weeds. Its time for me to start writing again. It is folly, I know. But I can't help myself.

  • @mojo.adventures

    Hey there, thanks for the feedback! I took time off looking for a video editor so I could get videos out faster, but it ended up just me learning the video editing and graphics software on my own. Always hoping to improve a bit so I'm glad you noticed some new visuals! I am indeed trying to branch out a bit so I can cover short stories and news articles like this one without making an entire lake update. I think I'll start separating the "Water Level Reports" and the "Colorado River Watch" stories so I can get more content out. I don't think this has much to do with the impending re-allotment, I think it's outside of all that. Hopefully it will go state-wide. As we've both discussed before, any voluntary cuts or action would just eat into the bargaining chips that are brought to the table in 2026. Dare I say... this action is being done just simply to "do the right thing?" 🤔 Regardless, I have been getting a lot of feedback over this video. In the emails too. Apparently people really don't like the "toilet to tap" nickname specifically. I thought I did a decent job of presenting an even keel on the situation... not presenting it as either good or bad. But not everyone felt that way as I guess that nickname is a real sore spot for the reclamation industry and in California. I mean... how much worse could it be than our Lake Mead "boats, barrells, and bodies" water? 🙃 Wow, 33% cuts?? That is wild. A full 1/3 of the water supply! Imagine telling the Imperial Irrigation District they are going to get a 33% cut in the 2026 contract. I think there'd be a literal civil water war. The desal plant there sounds like the same problems here also. By the time anything is approved, funded, and built... the service area has outgrown the solution and is outdated. And on we go...

    Good advice here, thank you! 👍 So many of these stories on Lake Mead start with "they just jumped in, I turned around for a second and they were gone!" Then you mix in drinking, partying, carelessness. I don't think folks anticipate the shock of 55 degree water on a 110 degree day either. It was sad going through the blotter. True! The reservoir above Lake Mead is filling fast but at Lake Mead it looks like we're about to have another drought catastrophe. The information can be presented in any number of ways. That's just what I'm here to show👍 Gotta look at the whole situation. You're right about LLV also... since Basic Water went bankrupt they have to buy water from the city of Henderson to fill the vanity lake. So much for a "shortage" I guess.
