    Oh, weird, *ANOTHER* "freak accident" at a major trade/commerce hub that'll devastate supply chains for the forseeable future. What a coincidence.

    Why didn't you mention Norfolk where they pretty much have made a lot of the adjustments and have started to outpace other east coast ports like Baltimore in recent years

    Port of Virginia is doing well, but NY/NJ and Savannah are the two largest on the East Coast.

    I was in the Navy and the ship I was on was a piece of junk. We could not even make it from the west coast to Africa. We had to go into dry dock and was always having to get repaired. Our captain was a piece of crap. I think this is just a way to import Palestinians into the United States. They could get aid into Gaza through Egypt and Isreal. This is a ruse by the Biden administration to bring in more migrants into the U.S.

    all this could have been avoided if "FENDERS" were built surrounding each support entering the water....

    They needed a barrier that would have prevented the ship from physically hitting the bridge.

    "Concurrency".... a mode of government acquisition of "vehicles" that is not just foolish but is indifferentiable from enemy action. Perhaps more generously it resembles some sort of mob-style bust-out on the American taxpayer. LCS, Ford CVN, Coast Guard Security Cutter and other "systems" too numerous to chronicle here. Also not nearly enough dry docks or graving docks or construction yards. The Navy is naively still "Divesting To Rebuild" and retiring ships at a rate MUCH greater than they can be replaced. One can also hardly disagree with your observation that the U.S. functioned after WWII as "world policeman" of land and sea. One might argue MUCH more successfully at sea than on land but perhaps globalization has been fostered enough that after 80 years some of these folks might have to start puling their own weight. Peaceful Skies.

    I don't get cruises. You can do all the same things on land at a fraction of the price. Then I can go home and sleep in my own bed because I didn't die from a rogue wave or a pirate attack or disease I couldn't walk away from or some incompetent, drunk captain. I won't disrespect my ancestors that crawled out of the water and on to the land to evolve into me, only to go back into the water to die. Thanks for sharing.

    You have to look at the intention behind this the Chinese are creating the infrastructure that they can build a navy that can dominate the world that's what they really want

  • @jppagetoo
    @jppagetoo11 сағат бұрын

    The Houthis have demonstrated that hitting transportation infrastructure is a major problem. Bigger ships may make shipping cheaper, but also exposes each as a point of weakness. What is easier... sinking one huge ship or 5 smaller ones? Yeah... putting too many eggs in one basket is foolish in this modern world.

    It would not make sense trying to out build China. Not possible to compete against their economies of scale. Instead, we need to develop weapons that can take out those ships more easily. This is what Russia has been doing developing sophisticated air defenses to counter US's superior air force, knowing well in advance that they would not be able to out build the West. This doesn't mean we don't need more shipyards, sure, but we also need to focus on superiority using latest tech as opposed to sheer mass. The mass doctrine is obsolete and can be witnessed in the disproportionate losses of Russian forces on the front lines in Ukraine. All it took is cheap drones. New tech and aggressive innovation iterations must remain as top priority.

    Hi Sal! This has probably been asked before but why didn't they use land based winches to pull the Ever Given off the shore, surely they would have more control and pulling power?

    After learning about the NTSB report on the Dali and watching analysis of events, I am left wondering if in these seaports there is not something like an airtraffic controller that is responsible for directing traffic. Could Sal explain that in one of his videos.

    So you have no idea why did it crash into the bridge.

  • @wgowshipping
    @wgowshipping12 сағат бұрын

    It hit the bridge because the ship lost power and without power, it lost both propulsion and rudder control. When power was restored, they had partial rudder control, but no thrust for maneuvering as the main engine was off line. The ship was coming out during a slack tide, but Curtis Channel was off the starboard quarter and it may have given the ship the drift to starboard that set it on course to hit the southern pier.

    Breakers are controlled by relays which are susceptible to cyber attacks. That said, the root of the issue was shutting the exhaust damper. Why would someone do that and why aren’t there controls to lock out closing an exhaust damper? Is there a reason someone intentionally choke off the exhaust like that?

  • @wgowshipping
    @wgowshipping12 сағат бұрын

    The exhaust damper was done while in port a day before and not during the departure from Baltimore.

    The said third wave would certainly have put a stick in the spokes of USA. The fuel dumps and dry docks would have eventually been repaired and replaced. You yourself said the Coral sea battle would not have happened "So what" you would say, well every Oz knows that women, children and old people were being sent to Alice Springs in the middle of the desert. Every guy 13yrs and older was being sent to the armoury in anticipation of the attack on Port Morsby followed by the attack on the North Coast and invasion. We only directed 10% of our effort to Japan but with the third wave we would have had to bump that up to 30-40% because of the losses that would have happened at Pearl. This would have taken a lot of pressure off the Nazis and maybe given them an extra 1-1 1/2 yrs on their nuclear program and then? Not to mention a serious drop in lend lease for the Brits.

    What Navies round the world need, including the US, desperately is Innovation. The, all Aluminium Spearhead-Class Expeditionary Super-Fast transport (EPF) is an excellent example of this. Why focus on Littoral combat ships, when there are sucess stories elsewhere...
