@@TheAechBomb Would that vary in each case? For example, if I ordered some goods to be delivered, I might have insurance (even that depends on things like FOB). If I were moving and my personal belongings were in a container, that seems like a different insurance situation. And if I were the shipper, my insurance policy is likely different from the first two examples. Then we have the operator claiming damages from the cargo, right?

Criminal investigation and NTSB investigation, seen that did not end well. Here(Whatcom County, WA) when a Olympic pipeline gasoline pipe line blew up Whatcom Creek in Bellingham, immunity deals where handed out like candy to the involved parties to get them to testify before the NTSB. The result was even though there was demonstrable negligence no criminal charges where brought because the negligent parties had immunity. We the residents of Western Washington did get to pay off the companies civil fine in the form of increased fuel prices for ~ two years as a result of the company upping their pipeline fees. Ain't the law great.

Yeah, this is an unfortunately repetitive thing. The FBI doesn't seem to have gotten it through their heads that the safety of the global populace is more important than their often narrow liability concerns...so people who shouldn't have been granted pardons end up being granted them so that vital public safety activities can continue.

Sometimes the FBI lets the safety investigation go first. Of course, they're under pressure to act. Someone Must Be Prosecuted.

It would be interesting to know the grounds under which a court order was issued, who requested it and under what sections of federal law the applicant was operating.

That means we'll never know the real root cause of Dali incident. Besides that I really hope the US starts focusing on their own huge problems like being bankrupt, instead of funding wars around the globe.

I hope those crew members involved in the FBI investigation get good legal representation at no cost to themselves. I also hope that the NTSB does not apportion blame for the accident on anyone. My understanding is that they work similarly to the MAIB in the UK and report only on the circumstances and causes along with making recommendations to prevent this from happening again. After the 1987 Herald Of Free Enterprise disaster in the English Channel, the UK government brought in some knee-jerk legislation that made the ship's captain responsible for defects in the design and construction of their vessels. These laws were, sensibly, later repealed. I hope the USA does not have any similarly ridiculous laws. My main concern, however, is for the officers and crew on board who must be going through a very difficult time and who could be prevented from going home for a considerable length of time.

4/15/24..Salute to you Sal ('tenn hutt') for 2day's summary: 3 boardings': Iran, Somalia & FBI...phew! ...that's a lot to cover but you, my man, have no problem compressing numerous Maritime events into a few minute summary getting right to the point. A+ Sal!✅️ Am waiting for NTSB's public report to see if that ship, MV DALI, left the dock knowing their were electrical problems/intermittancies which leadership/management/Captain etc. all believed in the routine of ship operations, would get sorted out as ship was under way, making progress toward its next destination, Singapore x-million miles away & so would have the benefit of time, distance & 'open water' to 'fix' the xyz problem & all would be good...but oh no...management using 'band-aid' thinking just burned them up, killed several people, destroyed a major bridge with multiplied effects of halting US Government shipping, commercial shipping, major navigation obstructions...on & on...WTF was the management thinking? ..oh ya know...just like another day of problem solving, only that mentality exposed a horrible level irresponsible behavior. Shame on management & the Captain. Bye bye millions of $$$'s...go Sal go!👍✅️

Regarding the FBI, is failing to keep accurate logs a federal offence? I'm thinking logging that maintenance was done, when it actually was not performed. Or not recording faults/failures and just resetting the problem equipment.

@5.56 you say the death of the workers aboard the ship, there were no fatalities of free on the ship so am assuming you mean the tragic loss of life of the workers on the bridge!! You are busy Sal, I get it, however others may misconstrue your statements.

It's not the cost of individual weapons that is the problem, it's the cost of operating as an armed vessel, and thus a military target.

Hey Sal, you can reach out to Tony with La Lido Loca who is on a cruise ship just got done with Aruba and Curacao, he was scheduled to go to Baltimore, but he got news that the termination of the cruise will now be in Norfolk, VA. I don't think much cruising is regularly done out of Norfolk, Va, but I don't know much, follow much with cruising out of Norfolk. I often cruise out of Tampa. Some repositioners will call at Baltimore, but I guess things will be diverted for awhile.
