Rex's Hangar

Rex's Hangar

Chris -a.k.a "Rex"- likes to talk about planes. A lot.
Usually he spends his days consuming vast quanities of coffee, reading vast quantities of aviation-related books, and talking about his obsession for all things that fly (birdlife included). This channel will focus on aviation and aviation history. It will cover the history and development of aircraft, famous & equally obscure events, and delve into many of the lesser known stories of aviation. Enjoy!

I love to imagine a world in which the stock market crash and subsequent great depression didn't prematurely end the era of giant flying boat passenger liners. Thinking about all the massive and beautiful machines that could have existed if the market for them hadn't instantly dried up, and just how weird and wonderful they all could have been...

Please note: the replica based on a Mustang is hideous. Get me the plans and I'll build it right.

One .303mm machine gun. I think the designers forgot that this aircraft was meant to be a war plane.

They should've made it a super luxury trip for rich people, I'm sure they could've charged very high prices to make a profit, kinda like those river cruise boats.

Interesting how they used the least practical and most expensive plane as a testbed.

Your making more of what it was really like. I was a kid then and believe me, everyone didn't have a stick up their ass. They were more concerned about what the kids were exposed to.

If you are fond of the P-40 read the war biography of Robert Scott. US transport pilot in China WWII. Begged a P-40 from Gen. Chennault leader of the Flying Tigers mercenaries before the entry of the U.S. in WWII. Scott joined the Flying Tigers when the US entered the war. The book is called God is my Copilot.

Get well, I've had flu twice. One of them, I lost and an entire week, (literally I felt ill fell asleep, woke up a week later).. Thank you to my then girlfriend for rushing home between lectures to ensure I didn't die, feed and water me (I presume she also gave me a bed bath as well as apparently she was changing the sheets every day)

Why did he have the gear down in flight. That is just stupid. Once you are in the air and flying, the gear is up and remains there until approaching to land. There might be one or two exceptions to that, but never ever when doing flight parameter tests.

Another thought: You are tickled pink because you get Gate 3, not 627, but with that wing span, gate 3 is still 7 miles away. :)

If they'd installed a Griffon in the MB.3 instead of the Napier Sabre, Baker would likely have lived and that fighter would have been produced to at least replaced the Hurricane.
