I really like videos on the more under reported planes. Everyone knows the Spitfire/ME-109/Zero etc. but there are a lot of really interesting designs. I’m actually a naval historian nerd, and was amazed at the Swedish navy in the steam and steel era. I’d love to learn more about the more obscure attempts at aviation solutions. FYI, I often listen while walking my hound dog. Thanks man.

The idea of collecting oral histories is great. Just the other day Drach had a fascinating discussion on the state of academic history studies and primary research and their contraction under shit budgets and the role of social media facing historians like yourself. The fact that you plan to do what is essentially primary research in the field and contribute to the field by donating to archives is great.
Your pup looks like a real good fellah! Thank you for what you do, listening to your videos got me through my 6 month healing process following a month in a coma after a near fatal auto wreck. 💪🏻 (made a full recovery 👌) Hope you make it to the East Coast or the Great Lakes area at some point.
Hope you are well man! Glad to hear you are getting settled in.

February 11, 2024: we got to see Rex's dog but still haven't seen Drach's dog! WINNER!!!
Beige eh? I refer to that particular rental house interior colour as 'landlord cream'.
Great video! Man, 40 mins, no cut, bravo!!!
I learned something new today; in Aussieville, they call them 'skirting boards' instead of base boards!

They're skirting boards in Britain, so it might be a Rex's roots thing rather than an Oz thing.
Loved seeing your dog Max, Rex. He's a beauty, reminds me off my friends GSD named Rex lol
One of these days you need to see the USAF museum in Dayton Ohio. If there is one aviation museum to see, its that one.
Hey Chris! Good to know from you at last. I'm a big fan of your channel and aviation stuff. Nice to hear that your move house went well. Max is amazing, love dogs too! He is a handsome looking German shepard. Kind greetings from the other side of the Pacific, Santiago de Chile. Keep rocking!
'Down to Brisbane'. Wow, you're really up there. Think you've got a lot of interesting resources and stories right on your doorstep btw, No.3 Sq AFC and the RE8 being a personal fave. ANZAC aviation has a great history and there seems a ton of static and flying examples both sides of the Tasman. Loved the French interwar bomber series. How those monstrosities even saw daylight suddenly made sense! All the best realising the plans.
I like this- like a fireside chat
Two over-looked museums in Northern California are the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos and the Castle Air Museum in Atwood. Also near Hilller is Moffett Federal Airfield and NASA Ames Research Center (huge wind tunnel).

Awesome work Rex!!! Kevin Hambsch
Max is glorious! Nice.
Not related to aviation, but "Ponzi scheme housing market go BRRRRR" is a great line. One has to laugh to not cry.
I had a cousin who survived his WW2 combat requirement. But he was lost ferrying aircraft afterwards. Stories about everyday hazards flying aircraft would perhaps make interesting history- something that you have discussed incidentally regarding testing prototypes.
Hope to see some aussie museums too!
Maybe the dog could be you equivalent to the MGM lion?
Rex the long form videos will be great, including the Douglas video.
You could use "Aviation Historian and Media Creator" or "Historical Aircraft Documentarian." These titles convey a sense of professionalism and expertise in producing historical content related to aviation. Something that you most surely do.
I would love to see the Douglas video compilation. Loving the content!
As fast as I am concerned you do a perfectly good job of talking to the camera; don’t run yourself down.
Best deep dives on youtube.
25:08 yes please I look forward to seeing and hearing your long form work
Me, with evil intent: "Oi, Rex. Do a deep dive on the Potez 25 and Farman 190 families." Rex: *Takes a look at the massive data nightmare they are and starts to silently weep. The French Bombers series was solid gold, mate. Cheers.
If you fly more often you might be able to collect Bonuspoints or so, which makes flying cheaper. As your travel agent.
If you happen to pass through Denver I recommend the Wings over the Rockies air museum in Aurora. It's not big but it has some pretty neat stuff in there last I visited.
Quality is more a factor of practice. So far, you are very effective, so your practice is well employed. I like your plans as presented. Cheers from the East Coast of the United States. Massachusetts. My dad used to have his 8th grade classes do oral History projects. You are right about learning more from them. He had one kid who's grandfather was part of the crew of the carrier U.S.S Franklyn during the kamikaze attack. Prior to this interview all he ever said to his family was that he was in the Pacific. P.S. the kids had to tape record the interviews. One student found out they had a brother who lives in China. They had left after he was a grown up and he stayed behind. When you hit the U.S. East Coast, you should set up an interview with the restoration department at Smithsonian Air and Space at Udvar-Hazy. They have so many unique planes that they have restored, even a Horton 229.

Hello fellow Mass-hole!
Rex, I sympathize with you on dealing with cheap repairs. My wife and I bought an our first house at the end of 2022. It’s 104 years old and the last two sets of owners thought they were master plumbers and electricians . We found so many things that needed professional repair. We’re pretty young and it was quite the life experience.

Well Done Rex , I have been following ever since the KZread algorithm gave me Your yak one video about three years ago

Superb dog! One of my favourite GSDs was called Max too. My current one is called Wolfgang. 😊my coffee name is Max in honour of that great dog. Best of luck moving forward. Cheers
Good talk, looking forward to everything ahead. The sky's the limit you could say! Just be sure to keep the doggo away from those giant sabre- toothed swamp geckos up there.😊
it takes an amazing amount dedication to run a channel as good as this one
Love the rambles Rex, glad thing's are coming together for you and your partner, and the lovely doggo ❤ 🐕 very excited to hear about the future for the channel, onwards and upwards 👍🛫
Check out the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson Az.
Thanks for the update. Wish your family well. Thank you so much for some of the best aircraft content on the internet. I especially loved the French Interwar bomber videos.
Chris, when you do make to Middle America, you MUST visit the Museum of the United States Air Force in Ohio. Trust me, you will not regret it. I've visited something like five or six times since 1977 and there is always something new and interesting. BTW, your wildlife photos looked terrific. Well done.
what a distinguished gentleman. also cute dog
If you ever get to the Air Force museum in Dayton Ohio lmk. Im not far and go a lot. Also when you get to England, make sure you hit Drach up.

Thank you for keeping videos where the audio can stand by itself. Prior to your East Coast US trip please try to build a relationship with Kermit Weeks from Fantasy of Flight down in Florida. He does have a KZread channel here but doesn’t put out a huge volume, and his personal collection of warbirds is quite literally beyond compare worldwide. Can't wait for all the upcoming stuff, Rex! Thanks for all the work you put into it!
Rex, I have been thinking about perhaps covering airplanes like the DC-5 only 12 built), the Curtiss Condor, de Havilland DH.91 Albatross (7 built) and some other obscure passenger aircraft. Maybe something like the Vickers Viscount (I owned three of them back in the 1970's) or perhaps the Brabazon or Sanders Roe Princess. Then you mentioned this idea already, but stories on people like Bill Boeing, Donald Douglas, Leroy Grumman, R.J. Mitchell, Frank Whittle, Glenn Curtiss and I could go on. Another topic could be aircraft designers, like Ralph Harmon, Ed Heinemann, Ted Smith, Edgar Schmued, Kelly Johnson, Geoffrey de Havilland, Jack Northrop and the Wright Brothers. I have been watching only for a year or so as many of these have been done. That ought to keep you busy for a bit. No time for anymore haircuts.
Pre-owner wasn’t ‘Lindybeige’ LOL!
A courageous decision to move to NQ in the summer. Can't imagine painting ceilings in that heat and humidity; it was bad enough west of Brisbane. We did the opposite four years ago and moved to the Launceston area to escape that crap. In the middle of a "sweltering" mid 20s summer now. Beautiful doggo too, you are blessed.
oh wow I can't wait! :)
First sources (people who saw it happen) are better than secondary sources (people who talked to the first sources) and way better than tertiary sources (people who read what the secondary sources wrote). The one thing you have to remember about first sources - they can only tell you about what they saw and did - which can leave a lot of questions. The canonical case of this is the first source at the Battle of Agincourt who was with the baggage train - he saw things at a distance but really was almost a secondary source.
Love this channel! Makes my day every time I see a new subject.
I'm looking forward to the Australian aviation history coverage!
I enjoy all your content, we're lucky to have people like you and Drach, Chieftain providing high quality content. Best of luck for all the travel plans, very happy to hear of the quality of life improvements to your personal life! Cheers!
I am hoping that either you or some of your followers can help me with something I read in an almost period History of The Great War. The book(s) of which there are several volumes started print in 1916. There is a brief mention of the French putting a 75mm gun, yes, 75mm, into some of their aircraft. It seems they used a one time wooden breach block to counter the problem of recoil. There was no other information, other than it seemed to work. Never having heard of this, I wonder if anyone else has any more information.
Hot mess would be entertaining. Although your current way has a charm and authenticity to it.
I definitely support the idea of making more long-form compilations. The French bomber development videos are an excellent candidate to be rolled into one long video. And to further complicate things, you might consider looking at the more popular overviews and asking Patreon if any of those should get a long-form video at some point. Keep up the good work, glad to see things working out for you.
I love the 3 hour format. Just great.
Good Luck
I so love your big big big dog. I generally love German Shepherds, even though I have only two French Bulldogs for 'space' reasons and in order not to irritate my 13 cats.
Congrats on your new house! Yes, there are more bills, however, in the long run usually it’ll be more stable and less expensive than renting. Plus, when you want to add on your hanger you’re the one who’s the boss 😎. Really enjoy your videos, cheers.
Congratulation. Heads up, dogflaps will bring the australian wilderness into your home. Cough, GMO Spiders
Buy and move! The best thing to get white hair early 😊. Glad you guys are over the bump.
Thank you for the update. I enjoy your content as it is easy to see your dedication and commitment to quality information on the subject presented. Oh, congratulations on your forage into home ownership. It never gets old...
If you end up coming to New England in the next few years, I know of a couple events and locations that you (and my fellow viewers) might be pretty interested in taking a look at
You should get yourself over to NZ for the Wings over Wanaka air show. Then you can see some great planes and check out some amazing scenery and birds while you're at it. Peter Jackson's WW1 and WW2 aircraft museum near Blenheim is well worth a look as well.
Your enthusiasm is infectious. Mood lifted for the rest of my day, thanks!
You might consider either the flight simulators like Greg's Airplanes and Automobiles channel or use War Thunder content like Military Aviaion History. Just to be different, you could get video from some of the Vintage Microsoft Flight Simulator aircraft additions.
I'm a relatively recent subscriber, and have to tell you, your work is a HUGE inspiration for my own channel. By the way, I tell folks that I'm an "aviation historian", less of a bad rap than avgeek youtuber, lol. Never had to try to finance a home from it thankfully, and thus far I'm just on my baby steps on this journey, quite a ways from earning a living from it. But busting my butt trying, that's for sure! I also share similar challenges as far as covering topics I would LOVE to talk about but have very little media to work with. So it’s a been a struggle to figure out my own direction. I have tons of ideas for videos but damn they take soooo long to produce, it’s exhausting and a bit nervewracking considering it conflicts with my other work that pays my bills. Anyhow, Rex, congrats on getting this far, and if Florida is on your radar one day, would love to meet (though admittedly aviation is a bit thin round these parts. Maybe Kermit Weeks will let you in his aviation fantasyland, lol)
Just a short fun thought about hair There's a channel of Ukrainian pilot (записки пилота, pilot's notes), and if someone doesn't get the scale of "long hair + windy airfield" problem, just check those clips
Love your videos man! I watch them nearly if not literally every night before bed, I even use the ones I've seen multiple times to fall asleep to sometimes. Anyway love your channel your videos, and your love for aviation history, and I'm excited for the future of this channel and for you man!
I prefer a complete manufacturer story in one part, regardless of the lenght.
Love your channel Rex, I've been into aviation (mostly WW2 military but not exclusively) since childhood. The knowledge you demonstrate make me feel like a novice but I am thoroughly entertained. I enjoy the aircraft you cover and look forward to the future videos. Being born and raised in England myself, I can't wait to learn more of the Australian aviation history and seeing the airshows. I would highly recommend the Kent Battle Of Britain museum for a visit when you come to England, it isn't big or fancy like Hendon, Duxford or The Shuttleworth collection, but it is located on the old Hawkinge airfield with original buildings. Hawkinge was the closest front line airfield and covered "Hellfire Corner", I'd love to see you cover that place. What do you mean ramble? I have never heard you ramble (imo)
It's not beige. It's "Landlord Brown".
I enjoy all your videos about aircraft and such, and will continue to do so I'm sure, but do us all a favor, do not get too close to those nasty Crocs as you're doing your photo shots!
It always feels such a waste of time, effort and materials that everyone selling a house repaints all the walls beige ("Magnolia" in the UK) before putting it on the market, and whoever buys it immediately repaints it again.
Your presentation comes off much more professional than you're giving yourself credit for Chris. Striving for improvement is commendable!
With the age of letters coming to an end oral histories are going to be so important. Great idea!
Hi Rex could you do a Deep dive into Grumman F4F Wildcat and its variations, including the wild catfish O must say thank you so much for all the ones you've done and keep up the great work
*_"Nothing's the same anymore."_* *-- BABYLON 5*
Come on over Rex! For airshows Oshkosh is a must, been there twice.
Hey Rex you should do a trip to New Zealand at some stage. Peter Jackson the film maker has got the most amazing collection of WWI restorations and replicas in the world. The replicas are built using all the old techniques so you cant tell that many are replicas. There are also major WWII restorations done in NZ. I think our warbirds airshows are the only place in the world where you can see Camels and SE5s doing mock dogfights against several Fokker Triplanes.
What a beautiful dog! Wish we could see more of him!

Thanks for the little look behind the curtain! I really enjoy what you do! From things I never knew a thing about, to things I thought I knew quite a bit about, only to learn quite a bit more! I’d like a little series on general aviation from the end of WW2 through the eighties or so! Though that might be a bit niche!
Ah. the joys of becoming a homeowner ! After a decade of renovations, all I need to do is put in the dog door (for our boy who very similar to yours) ! Good luck with your endeavours, and I hope you can keep up the good work ! (P.S. our overseas trip were "financed" by doing house-sitting / house-swapping. There are many reputable websites. ) P.P.s. If you can make it to the RAAF Edinburgh Air Show, there is a good military museum nearby, as well as the South Australian Aviation Museum at Port Adelaide, and an excellent Military Museum at Bublacowie on Yorke Peninsula which even has an old Fieseler Fi 156 Storch aircraft !
