    The thing is, Jin never wanted to abandon the way of the Samurai. For some reason i found the spare option a bit out of character for Jin, and is not like Jin questioned the ways of the Ghost as well, like Norio last tale and the Mongols reverse engineering his poison. There's many other missions that makes you question the Ghost ways. There's also the case for Ryuzu. Ryuzu represents what is a Samurai without a code, is complete antithesis of Shimura ways. Another point, Yuna never encouraged Jin to break his code, merely to bend it. I don't know i agree with you the Killing option makes more sense overall

    The director confirmed that sparing Shimura is the real ending. What we see throughout GoT is the transition from a Samurai to a full-on ronin. Breaking tradition. Going against expectations. As much as killing Shimura makes sense, it makes even more sense for Jin to spare Shimura. Jin had to bend/break the code in order to save Shimura the first time, so why wouldn't he do it again after everything he's done? Jin doesn't want to follow a broken system. The Mongols taught him that.

    personally i killed him, and im quite shocked to see the majority spared him. shimura was all about honor, and he would lived the rest of his life with shame, or even worse, ordered to commit seppuku. I think he would rather die by jin's hands than the shogun, and jin must be well aware of that. it's what shimura wanted, and at the very least, the last thing he saw was not jin the ghost, but jin his adopted son. its way more emotional than the spare ending, imo. also, the white dye ghost armor is way cooler than the red one.

  • @WulfTheRonin

    I agree with this 100% I've said before that sparring Shimmura is the easy way out for Jin. He gets to keep his family. But by killing Shimmura, Jin has to come full circle and not make decisions based on emotions which is what Shimmura has been trying to teach him over the course of not just the game but throughout Jin's life

    @@WulfTheRonin totally agree man, replaying the game the kill option not being canon makes no sense narratively for a sequel. As if they go the spare route then the sequel is just a rehash of the first games lessons & themes. The 2nd game should focus on jin's relationship with the ghost and the affect that has on things around him. This game dealt with the identity of the ghost and how it affects him on a personal level obviously that can be continued but to use shimura as a vessel for that would be a mistake as that's what the whole first game was about. The Khan was just an inciting incident. The real story was between jin, the ghost & shimura. If shimura lives the 2nd game would just be exactly like the first no? The kill ending wraps things up nicely while leaving lots of ambiguity in jin's thoughts and emotions to develop in the sequel. Which would be much more interesting imo

  • @zm8w88

    i doubt theres going to be a 2nd game for starters, but i chose to spare him bc jin doesnt respect the samurai way anymore and even told his uncle it has poisoned him, i was going to kill him but realized i was stooping down to his level and jin throughout the game is never the type to do that, he follows his heart not samurai code. its also a huge slap in the face to shimura to show how much of a better man he is than shimura , to me it made perfect sense and jin loved his uncle more than anything killing him when he didn’t believe in his uncle’s beliefs doesnt make sense at all

    I'd like to know why Jin has an inexplicable change of heart towards people who exploit, abuse and murder innocent Japanese people on Iki Island. There was no come to Jesus moment for the raiders, they even say they can't wait to start pillaging villages again. So Jin just becomes buddies with his father's murderer, and is friends with them despite all of that, for no apparent reason. But he still kills straw hats and Japanese bandits for doing the same thing that the raiders have, and will continue, to do. For such a fantastic, moving and well-written story, this just doesn't add up on any level. You can choose to kill your own uncle, who consistently means the world to Jin, but you're forced to condone the rape/murder/pillaging behavior of his father's killer and his buddies, with no say in the matter. Jin's ENTIRE IDENTITY as the Ghost is centered around not just killing Mongolian invaders, but ANYONE who does those things. Immersion is totally broken.

  • @WulfTheRonin
    @WulfTheRonin Жыл бұрын

    You make some valid points. I personally don't feel the immersion was broken. I highly doubt Jin was actually condoning their actions, something you have to think about, no matter which ending you choose Jin is on the run, the shogun is ready to send forces to eliminate Jin. What's Jin going to do? Take on the entire force of raiders and pirates ontop of the remaining Mongolian army with the Shogun's army hunting him down? As skilled as Jin is there's no way he'd be able to fight through all that. I think Jin is carefully picking his battles and trying not to draw attention to himself. The events that transpired on Iki was probably too much heat for him to take in the first place. He's already a criminal as it is so it would make sense for him to start interacting with more bandits and other criminals. Another thing to remember is Shimmura had a pirate contact in his debt during the base game in Act 2. Jin might be doing the same with these bandits. He could use this as an opportunity to build a ninja force using these bandits while keeping them in check. Whether any of this holds any validity is anyone's guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens if it gets a sequel.

  • @realCharAznable
    @realCharAznable Жыл бұрын

    @@WulfTheRonin It's true that the odds are stacked against him if he were to stay on Iki Island where everyone hates him already, and take on all of their warriors/raiders etc. But it's the personal, specific forgiveness and cordial attitude towards the end that is nonsense to me. The real Ghost of Tsushima would have, in the best case scenario, thanked the raiders for their help against the Eagle, agreed to move past the past, on the condition that the future doesn't continue on the same course. Again, remember the straw hats and bandits. They're still getting stomped on the regular by Jin. Just because he's technically a "criminal" doesn't all of a sudden make all other actual criminals his brethren. And smuggling silk is a far cry from rape/murder/pillage in the comparison of Shimura's Goro and Jin's raiders. I just don't see one single piece of reason in the main story of Jin that would ever make what he did on Iki Island make sense. Also let's remember Ryuzo, and how he tried to bargain with Jin at the end, and offered to join forces. But it was too late, his crimes were too severe in Jin's eyes. At no point after that did Jin regret that decision or change his mind, he just regretted that it came down to that. Well, the straw hat ronin's transgressions pale in comparison to the Iki Island raiders. They were such a menace that the shogun literally sent Jin's dad to wipe them out. But the whole narrative on Iki Island is that Jin's dad is somehow the bad guy, because of collateral damage, even though the townspeople completely support the raiders doing even worse to Tsushima villagers for no reason. And the old guy in the horse armor quest with the sob story about his fictional "6 year old sister being cut down by the Sakai Butcher" was lying through his teeth. The dude is like 70 years old, those events happened no more than 15 years prior, and there is no way a 55 year old man in ancient Japan had a 6 year old sister. They're all full of shit. They support the abhorrent behavior of their own people, and then whine and cry when retribution from the Samurai comes. Does that excuse the collateral damage and misdeeds of the Samurai invasion of Iki? No, of course not. It just makes the Iki Island people hypocrites, and adds fuel to the frustration of what I'm talking about. Maybe it was just poorly written, or made by the B team or something, but it still had to go through approval and it's confusing that it was released in the state it is, considering how stellar and airtight the main game is. What you said about keeping them in check, that's what I'm not seeing in the in-game dialogue, and that's the issue. It's striking to me, because Jin's personal sense of justice and morality is literally his entire identity and the driving force of the whole game.

  • @leogiardello993

    I'm prediting the second game will be dealing with conflicts from japan instead of outside threat and jin will definitely have a high level skilled villain to face such as "Battousai" since is the only kind of warrior that will be able to face jin.

    I think he'll head to Okinawa since a lot of the misconceptions we have about ninjas (Mainly that ninjas and samurai fought) originate from Okinawa. I think it would be interesting to see if the mainland had more elite training compared to what Jin and Shmmura had learned on Tsushima.

    Hello! Just wanted to say good job on the video! I like that there is still ambiguity today about which is the "correct" ending, and so both endings are affirmed for all people. I also liked that there are so many different ways to interpret it. One little thing I want to mention: Kurosawa's film The Hidden Fortress features a duel in which the punishment for failing is NOT seppuku. (Spoilers ahead) The protagonist defeats an enemy samurai lord and then has mercy on him (in front of many witnesses too). That samurai goes back to his general and is humiliated, beaten and scarred. The samurai returns to the protagonist and says "See my scarred face?! You did this to me! You shouldn't have spared me!" But the protagonist says "It's not me who did this to you, you have a wicked lord! Leave him and join me instead!" and then the samurai becomes allies with the protagonist. Considering Ghost of Tsushima is actually more akin to Kurosawa samurai narratives than historic Japan (also seppuku didn't exactly exist yet in Kamakura era), I think they took inspiration from this duel. That said, I don't think Shimura would have been ordered to kill himself by the shogun. Perhaps some lingering humiliation, but I think he'd stay in power. If he did get beaten and scarred by the shogun, that would be pretty interesting, and if it leads to resentment and later open rebellion against the shogun, that would be super cool. Shimura siding with the Emperor to get revenge, eventually bringing down the Kamakura shogunate? And then reuniting with Jin? An unlikely scenario but would be quite a twist for the character. Shimura may have his code, but I always felt that he put family first, hence why he "punishes" himself with the duel. He blames himself for accidentally teaching Jin to put kindness ahead of obedience.

    I'm glad you liked the video!! You know I haven't even thought about that. It's been a little bit since I've really sat down and watched Forbidden Fortress great film though. • @WulfTheRonin
    @WulfTheRonin2 жыл бұрын

    I totally agree, all the things leading up to the death he'd probably feel guilty about rather than actually killing him. Jin would probably feel more guilty keeping Shimmura alive due to the fact he would essentially be forcing his uncle to live in shame.

  • @Mr-Farrenheit
    @Mr-Farrenheit28 күн бұрын

    This is late but I disagree. The whole journey is about Jin discarding his honor. He loves his uncle so he already wouldn’t want to. But on top of that he wouldn’t abide by his uncles wishes. He fully embraces the ghost, discards his honor, and doesn’t kill him

  • @skitz-oh
    @skitz-oh28 күн бұрын

    @@Mr-Farrenheit i can understand your reasoning and i do agree somewhat but in my mind i'm pretty sure that Shimura would die anyway.. he has failed the Shogun and been dishonoured so he would most likely end up committing Seppuku Edit: so idk, it make more sense with my view of morality or whatever... Athough Jin has forsaken his samurai ways, he knows how much it means to his uncle... and seeing as the Shogun ordered Shimura to kill Jin, it makes sense that Jin should kill him because he knows that if he doesn't then Shimura would be dishonoured and have to commit seppuku, so its kind of a mercy killing, he gives Shimura an "honourable death"

    Yes, I acknowledged that in the video. When Nate fox says the "True ending" I think he's mostly talking about how sparing shimmura would've been Jin's true ending since letting his family live is ultimately what he wanted. Personally, I don't see them dropping a canon confirmation like this. Sucker Punch always likes to leave the player in suspense with their ambiguous endings. We didn't know that the Infamous 2 canon ending was hero until we actually played Second Son. So again I think when Nate Fox said that the spare ending was the "true ending" he's saying that that's the one he wanted since Shimmura was his favorite character.

It would be amazing to have both samurai/ninja weaponry both melee & projectiles. Shurikens, bows, blowpipes, tekko-kagi, kusarigama, yari/spear katana - even pick up dirt and throw it in enemy eyes to improvise and collect ingredients to craft your own poisons! I for one refuse to believe that Sly Cooper has gone forever. First of all, this announcement might just be a misdirection to get people to stop asking about these franchises until September when Sony makes its "big" announcement. If this statement is for real and SP doesn't want to do anything with Sly anymore, then they should sell the rights to another studio! Sanzaru games made "Theives in Time" and they did a good job, even if they could use a suggestion as to how to put Penelope back on the team. My point being that if one of the most popular Playstation characters who still has a lot of potential to be explored is only gathering dust in his current hands, then he should be put in someone else's hands who believes in him as much as his fans do. Ten years is long enough to wait for a continuance!

    It's honestly really hard to say because you're right it could be a misdirection. But in a case like this I don't think they should sell. They said so themselves it's not that they'll never go back to these franchises just now isn't the time. And from what ive learned with the games industry is usually when they stop a certain franchise it's because the devs don't feel like there's much to add when it comes to gameplay mechanics, or narrative. For the case of infamous and sly SP probably don't feel ready to continue those games, and would rather focus their time and energy on their current project.

    I've always leaned towards the SPARE option as cannon due to it completing Jin's transformation into the Ghost. I also believe this choice makes more sense due to his motivation for abandoning his code stemming from his desire to do what ever it takes to protect his home and family. By sparing his uncle it sends a message that he rejects the code of the samurai if it means hurting his loved ones which he holds in higher regards. With that said, I think you layout a lot of good points to justify the KILLING option. At this point I still lean towards SPARE but I think this just shows how well thought out the decision is presented to the player. Both choices seem like a believable decision that Jin could make in that senario.

    I agree with this comment. The title of the game is Ghost of Tsushima not samurai of Tsushima

  • @WulfTheRonin
    @WulfTheRonin2 жыл бұрын

    @@williamstockton5597 I don't really see what the title has to do with it. Despite what ending you choose you're still the Ghost of Tsushima. Jin is still samurai at his core and he's really only been rationalizing his decision as bending the code not full on breaking it. So to me, I think he would want to honor the last of his remaining family not just for Shimmura but maybe because he thinks he can find some sort of redeeming quality for himself since he's been disobeying his uncle for the entire game. That's just my thoughts on it though, I think the ambiguity of the endings was done quite nicely.

  • @WulfTheRonin
    @WulfTheRonin2 жыл бұрын

    @DaxReviews You make a good point about how sparing completes his transformation as the ghost, and while I agree that it sends a message I don't think Jin saw it like that in this situation. At least how I interpreted it was that Jin didn't want to kill his last remaining family and like throughout the rest of the game he rationalized. So him saying "I have no honor so, I won't kill my family" was more like a perfect excuse for him to let Shimmura live rather than him sending a message. Because I think given how Jin has acted throughout the game has been message enough and I don't think Jin would be that petty about it. Plus I don't think Jin was really aiming to break the code, as I state in the video when you're raised to live a certain way breaking those morals and codes is not an easy thing to do which is why he rationalizes so much through out the game. Jin tells Yuna, "I will never break my code" "Then bend it," Yuna responds. I think this scene here is really what solidifies Jin's decision to "bend" his code just until the Mongols are pushed back. I think you're right though they did a great job on both endings and I love the ambiguity they left us with. Some of the best writing have ambiguous endings.

    @@WulfTheRonin Yeah I would agree with that. I guess what I meant to say is this decision of Spare "sends a message" to the audience that Jin's transformation is complete. I'm curious to see what Jin's "Bending" of his code will end up as in a sequel. Does Jin completely abandoned the ways of the Ghost or does he double down on his tactics or maybe most likely somewhere in the middle? Another reason I'd like to see some type of ninja introduced to challenge these beliefs.

    - I think they should add a punishment system in combat - As you said about different weapons, they should also add different real life techniques (Like musashi's One katana and one tanto) - They should copy the FCV feature where you can send allies in enemies (Like the thing you said) - Perfect parry and perfect dodges shouldn't give you an instant kill - Enemies should have the ability to dodge and parry your attacks - Parrying should only give you larger window for a normal attack

  • @WulfTheRonin

    I would love to see Miyamoto's dual wield style but it is very unlikely as Miyamoto was around during the Sengoku period which is a good 300-400 years after the first Mongolian invasion. I'm actually fine with the one hit kill perfect dodge/parry. They designed the game around how lethal that katana is. Japanese sword fights back in the day weren't as drawn out as we see in film. They are another more slower and quicker....yeah I know that seems confusing lol. But what I mean is that they were slower because each opponent took their time to find the perfect opening once they did it was game over for the other guy. However with that said I do agree that opponents should be able to parry your attacks and give the player an opportunity to dodge to make another opening. Or something to make the duels a little challenging.

    I actually have a theory about that. Ninja and samurai never really fought like that. More times than not samurai would hire ninja or do the things shinobi did. Adam mcClelland, I think the reason why they didn't give tomoe a descendant is because yuchi is her descended as well as usagi. I mean although usagi has had several love interests during the comics (including chizu) but I think tomoe was more or else his true love, so I am thinking at some point after the comics usagi and tomoe did get together and have children (eventually leading to yuchi). Therefore the reason why instead of tomoe descendant with have chizu descendant instead. I personally think chizu will be yuchis love interest in the show as sort of like a comparison to their ansectors who while had on and off feelings for each other they ultimately didn't end up together.

It's to potentially pull in new readers and younger audiences to give classic Usagi a shot. I totally agree with you on how adults can appreciate things that are meant for younger kids. Usagi is a perfect example of that. Usagi Yojimbo is actually a series I would recommend to parents to get their kids into comics. You know I did find it strange that we don't have Tomoe featured, she's very prominent in the history of Usagi. I wonder if she'll show up later in the season. I'm pretty excited to see this show. Kublai Khan never made it to Japan, I think he was like 80 years old and running his Empire in China by the time the Japanese invasion happened. but we could see one of his sons be featured as the big boss. Kublai died unable to successfully play out his desire to take Japan. It would probably be cool if there were more bad guys to fight. we had the Ronin, the Mongols, and there were some Bandits. Bandits should appear more in the game and have a more random set of fighting style. It would be cool to fight pirates more often near beaches. I also wish we could use the grappling hook as a weapon. that would be a cool combat style for the Ghost, Sword and Chain Sickle. (or Rope Dart.). A cool Ghost weapon to have is Blinding Powder like how Khotun used against Jin in the final boss battle. But honestly my biggest hope for the game is that they change the money system. Or atleast make it possible for Jin to customize his own gear and weapons by hunting and collecting wood and other materials. since he's exiled for life now. But that could give them an opportunity to introduce interesting characters to help with that like Taka the Black Smith. its annoying to end the game having loads of money and not being able to spend it on anything beyond weapon refills, after buying every single item the merchant had to offer. and then also having loads of wood and linen and other materials, and nothing to do with it. we could at least use that for repairing Armour after a mission.. It would also be nice to periodically play as other characters. SInce Yuna and Norrio were so useful in battle. he might be able to assemble his own Ghost Brotherhood. like in Assassins creed. I think a special move to have in Ghost of Tsushima 2 would be a disarm, and then that should be the mechanic for switching to other weapons for combat. I think it would reduce the symbolism and the character aspects of Jin if we had the choice to abandon the sword for something else. But I think disarming an enemy and using their own weapon against them is a great way to trigger the "Terror" in or "Fright" in enemies. and he can drop the weapon or embed it in his enemies before heading out from the scene. also I agree they should take a page from the Arkham games with the terror feature, enemies reacting to their comrades being slaughtered. I think that the more the Ghost legend grows, the enemies should periodically become increasingly more paranoid. would definitely increase the enjoyablity of game play. maybe even have the bad guys talk about the Ghost as a myth?

  • @WulfTheRonin
    @WulfTheRonin2 жыл бұрын

    You make a valid point when I recorded this, I didn't even think about how old Kublai would've been at this point in time. I feel like if we do get a sequel the grappling hook weapon would take the form of the Kusarigama since it's already a rope/chain weapon. While I did enjoy the simplicity of the game's economy I do have to agree that after you clear the game and get everything the materials just kinda don't matter especially when you do multiple files of NG+. A disarm would be nice to have, and even unarmed combat would be pretty cool. Karate, Tae Kwon -Do, Aikido (I guess at this point in time they'd still be using Tae Kwon-Jutsu, or Aiki-jutsu not sure how it's said with the latter lol) I think what we got was a very good game and as a foundation there is a lot that they could expand upon to make the game even better. I really do hope that Sucker Punch sticks with this franchise for a while because. We don't see a lot of open world samurai games. At least I'm not aware of any.
