  I was completely unaware of the third kid and the impossible choice laid before alicent. That makes that scene so much more heavy. At least it could have/should have been. I don’t know how it would’ve translated to television, but it would’ve been a sight to behold. Wow. I can’t imagine what reading that would’ve been like

  Jaehaerys did nothing wrong. He was forced to do the council because his two real heirs died in freak accidents/his daughters were all screw ups and his other son was an autistic guy who never wanted to marry and just read books. So the options left were Rhaenys's son Laenor (turned into Rhaenys in the show) or his first born heirs son Viserys. He assembled the council to stop any war breaking out as they were the ones who voted on it.

  Didn’t know the book version, but the book version is better. I thought it was bizarre that the plan seemed so improvised. Since time was of the essence I was surprised that they didn’t check, or kill them both rather than risking discovery with the choice.

  I think the movie DOES confirm why the Monarch hates Rusty, and it’s not because of Debbie. He outright states that isn’t the case, and even continues to arch Dr venture after he find out the truth. No, instead, the Monarch once said “I hate myself more than most villains hate their arch enemy”. The reason why he hates Dr Venture is because he hates himself, and he IS Dr venture (unknowingly). They both have that inherent, horrible self loathing, but due to the baboon DNA, Monarch points his hate outward instead of inward (increased aggression). The moment he saw rusty, and learned more about rusty, he subconsciously saw himself, and HATED himself, and by proxy rusty.

  As someone who admittedly did not read the books, I appreciated Alicent not being in the room for the murder as it further served to highlight the contrast of motherhood between her and Rhaenyra. It feels like the show is centering all of the chaos and war around Otto's bad and selfish choices. He didn't respect Viserys as a king and decided to play chess with his daughter as a pawn. One of those consequences is Alicent being a bad mom who only values her children as part of a dynastic scheme (because Otto instilled that in her), as opposed to Rhaenyra who is a mom first, queen second. Alicent is queen first, mom second. Therefore, it makes sense to me that while her family is in danger, Alicent is not present but instead only concerned with satisfying her own pleasures. The version of Alicent so far presented I wouldn't imagine being warm grandma who says goodnight to her grandkids every night. It makes sense to me that she would have to face the effects of her failure after the fact. Just my take.

  I totally agree with this take. I get that people are attached to books, but I don't see the point in watching a movie or tv show that matches a book exactly. You can always just reread the book if you think it's better.

  as someone who loves all the 'ripley' era movies (yes even 3 and 4), i thank you for this, since i didn't even make it thru prometheus (yawn). it's nice to have the whole timeline encapsulated with some tasty narrative as well.

  I hope they focus on the beef between chani and irulan in the third movie. It was so gripping in the book. Irulan was mad as fuck the entire book that she couldn't have Paul lol.
