Theres just so many factual errors in this video. Its pretty disappointing to see such lackluster research. Like, this is really sloppy and perpetuating a lot of misinformation from fan wiki pages that are also incorrect but no one does the research necessary to challenge them.

I don't know if character designs and voice actors changing necessarily means we're seeing different versions of the characters, as far as 90's cartoons go. Unless there's specific story points contradicting things between shows, I'd say it's all the same universe.

yeah this is a pretty flimsy video i think every 90s marvel show is supposed to be canon with each other even if things like Silver Surfer and the Avengers show seem out of place, they also don't really contradict each other either. just look at 80s TMNT that changes voices actors and changes art styles James Avery plays Shredder in the first 7 seasons but 8,9 & 10 change the art style so are those 3 seasons not canon to the first 7? no those are all minor behind the scenes changes its not important really, its still supposed to be the same characters and canon. really bad video imo

The thing about the Multiverse, if you think about it, is that one reality can be vastly different from another(Germany won WW2), while in another the difference is so small you can never find it(somebody ate an apple for lunch instead of a pear). Iron Man can be the pear/apple eater of the Marvel cartoons, they're so similar it appears they're the same individual when they're actually not.

Love all this, but just to avoid confusing the kids: X Men '97 is NOT five years after the cartoon ended. The cartoon began in 1992 and ran for five seasons, each of which was another year, so S1-92, S2-93, S3-94, S4-95, S5-96, so the new show is set one year later from the ending, in 1997. I know you know that, but the way you phrased it might mislead people.

I feel like most of this is just getting too hung up on voice cast/designs and using that to indicate something being a different universe rather than plot incongruence. I personally treat X-Men, Spider-Man, F4, Iron Man, and Hulk as one universe and any voice/design discrepancies come down to artstyle and recasting (i.e. Gambit’s cursed white sclera in Spider-Man and redesigned Strange in Incredible Hulk)

Here in Latin America, all of the 90s Marvel cartoons aired on Fox Kids. I was a big fan of the Spider-Man, X-Men and Hulk series, I only watch a bit of Iron-Man and I barely managed to watch some episodes of Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer and Avengers I think those shows were my first introduction to a shared universe. Know that I think about it, if Spider-Man and Hulk would have a crossover back then, it'd have been weird hearing Peter and Bruce talk to each other since they were voiced by the same VA in the Neutral Spanish dub. That kind of reminds me that in the crossover between Spider-Man and The X-Men, only Wolverine and Storm were voiced by their original VAs in that dub, and that Silver Sulfer was dubbed in Venezuela while Avengers was dubbed in Chile, the rest of the 90s Marvel cartoons were dubbed in Mexico

That discrepances mirrors the discrepancies the Marvel comics had back in the 60s. In june you could have Spider-Man dissappearing for one month without anyone knowing where the hell he is, then some days later he appears in a Fantastic Four comic as if nothing really happened, then in july he is found in his comics. Different creative teams, that's just it. And no one claimed there is a "Marvel Multiverse inside 616".

So I think a lot of these examples can be brushed off, since actors change VAs even within their shows (Magneto and Storm were practically volleyed back and forth), characters change looks all the time, and in fact the Hulk's nebulous nature is even part of the character's lore. It is a little strange they dropped Wanda's accent, though the show does state she comes from that part of the world. (The episode really is kind of weird in that she is just dropped into the show, with Wolverine apparently being familiar with her.) In the Spider-Man show, when they introduce Nick Fury, he is believed to be dead by the world at large, and SHIELD's endeavors top secret. However, as of Iron Man he seems to regularly walk in and out of Tony Stark's office. Now, as a weapons manufacturer, it's not completely out there he would be privy to top secret stuff, but Stark and Iron Man are treated like wild cards, and he doesn't seem to act like he has a big smoking gun over their heads. In the Iron Man show, when Stark and Banner meet for the first time, the latter seems to be familiar with the Leader, but I feel like when he's introduced on the Hulk show, Banner seems to be somewhat unfamiliar with him, (or not recognizing that he was Sterns). In my opinion the biggest discrepancy is Sasquatch. He appears in the second season of X-Men, as a member of Alpha Flight, and inferred to be a mutant, but is introduced in The Hulk cartoon as someone who has been treating himself with Gamma radiation and by the end of the episode has exiled himself to the wild. There's also something I overall call "The Avengers problem". The Avengers are name-dropped in the first episode of the Spider-Man, but Captain America is as of the events of the show, in stasis. (I believe he also doesn't know who Iron Man is at the time). He also mentions the Defenders, but is unfamiliar with Doctor Strange (But is familiar with the Hulk, who does not seem to have any association with any team and I believe meets the Doc for the first time.) It can probably be explained does raise questions on who the lineups of those teams are. We are actually shown a lineup of non-speaking Avengers in the introduction to an FF episode. The animation includes Vision, She-Hulk, Captain America, Goliath, Justice/Marvel Boy, Darkhawk and Speedball (never an Avenger in the comics!). I think maybe Hercules, but I know he was shown in a group shot in the finale episode. Iron Man is also considered a member. The big ones are Cap (who was in stasis at the time) and She-Hulk (who would get an origin in the Hulk show.) I guess to rationalize one would have to arrange episodes of various show in a chronology that doesn't match air dates, or write off silent cameos or pithy jokes.

The mainline DC universe in the current incarnation of the DC multiverse, which is built upon the New 52 multiverse but has since been expanded to be infinite again, is Prime Earth or "Earth 0". Earth-One was the "main" universe in the Pre-Crisis multiverse, but Post-Crisis Pre-Flashpoint it was simply "New Earth", and could potentially also be considered the "Earth-0" of the Old 52 following Infinite Crisis and the 52 event, as there was an Earth-1 that was wholly separate from New Earth.

If a character appears in another show...it's the same character. But just like in comic books, sometimes the characters are written by different people, so different aspects of their personalities are on display. 16:00 Unlimited started production as an adaptation of the 1960s Spider-Man comics specifically the Dikto issues but due to Marvel's bankruptcy causing them to sell off movie rights, Saban lost the rights to everything except for the Spider-Man character albeit they could not use the classic costume and would have had to pay money to use the other characters so they only paid for Venom and Carnage and retooled everything to use the three characters to save on money. It then got retooled into a Spider-Man 2099 series before that idea got scrapped. So yeah lots of factors that were not Batman Beyond related

16:14 Which is ironic, seeing how basically the whole reason behind Beyond existing was higher-ups wanted to have a teenage Batman to get Spidey's audience.

Spiderman multiple spiderman was because of weird Multiversal stuff. What?? The whole thing had spiderman from other universes teaming up to stop Peter Parker that bonded with carnage. it literally is multiverse. it was the reason we have into the spiderverse.

If they do ever revive the 90s Spider-Man series I have what may or may not be such a good idea for it, they could have Flash Thompson become Toxin as a nod to Agent Venom in it.

Here’s my theory . Fantastic 4 and Spider-Man were set in different universes in the Marvel Animated Universe (1990s) In the Fantastic Four episode "Nightmare in Green", Scarlet Spider appears under an overhang watching Rick Jones and Human Torch fly by. This was because at the time of the series' production Ben was the primary Spider-Man and Peter was retired. However, this makes no sense within the Marvel Animated Universe as Ben never appeared in the primary universe, until “I Really, Really Hate Clones”. The logical explanation is that the Fantastic Four show is set in the same universe the Scarlet Spider comes from and subsequently the Peter Parker from the animated series has to save. I am aware that the Fantastic Four do appear in Secret Wars , but they could just be similar alternative versions. This also explains why Spider-Man wasn’t affected by the arrival of Galactus. Also their costumes are different.

Sadly X-Men '97 just made things even more confusing by showing that Eddie Brock still works at The Daily Bugle following the original series finale of X-Men despite becoming a supervillain in season one of the '90s Spider-Man series. Captain America is also set to make a reappearance before season one of X-Men '97 is over, so there very well may end up being contradictions between Spider-Man's depiction of his character and history and whatever happens in his next X-Men appearance.

X-Men is the best one, but since we’re going with favorite that isn’t X-Men, I’m actually gonna say Silver Surfer. It’s a shame it was so short-lived. It is one of Marvel’s most criminally underrated projects, honestly.

From my understanding it wasn't UPN but the "Marvel Action Hour" was on CBS. It featured Fantastic Four and Iron Man respectively. I actually remember my old video recordings with it showing commercial ads for Fresh Prince in it's prime time block very vividly. It's possible that UPN (who is owned by the same parent company as CBS) inherited rights somewhere down the line but originally it was CBS to my knowledge. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Too bad the MAU shows didn't have the same consistent writers as the DCAU did. Maybe then there'd be less continuity issues. Of course, the MAU shows were airing simultaneously, while most of the DCAU shows aired one at a time, so I guess it would've been too chaotic for the same MAU writers to be working on every show. Crazy how Fox Kids aired X-Men, Spider-Man and Batman TAS around the same time. These days you never see a Marvel and DC show airing on the same network since Disney owns Marvel now while WB has owned DC for decades.

Okay, so I know people don’t like Spider-Man Unlimited and Avengers: UTS that much. But I like them. If only for the “obscure Marvel deep dive” factor. Unlimited was drawing straight from obscure Marvel nonsense like the Knights of Wundagore and Machine Man. It’s why I wish there was a Marvel Team-Up show. So it could draw on random Marvel stuff every episode.

You're over complicating this. X-men, Spider-man, Hulk, FF and Iron Man were all in the same continuity. You could throw in Spider-man Unlimited too as it references and shows flashbacks to the animated series. The continuity wasn't as tight as DC as it was more an after thought and all the Marvel shows had different creative forces. Some voice actors were re-cast within series yet you don't think season one of X-Men is a different universe because Storm had a different voice actress? Magneto and Gambit have both had three different voice actors in this X-Men continuity. In Secret Wars Human Torch actually was the same voice actor as in season 2 of the FF series. The Hulk series hadn't been finalized when his back door pilots were featured in Iron Man and FF so that's why he had a different actor.

  • @georgesummitt1980
    @georgesummitt1980Ай бұрын

First off, you don't elaborate beyond different voice actors and different outfits. To quote Js Reviews, "art style changes and voice actor changes aren't cannon, as far as the characters know, they always sounded like this". Dr Doom had 3 different voice actors in the Fantastic Four show alone, and I don't hear you calling him an anomaly from a different universe. As for the different costumes on the Fantastic Four in Spider-Man, so? Maybe they got different outfits? That's not outside the realm of possibility in these shows. The only thing you could point to is the different personalities and behavior of some of the side characters like Scarlet Witch and Daredevil. And even then they aren't that much different from their main show counterparts. So what if Daredevil is a little more jokey in Fantastic Four than he is in Spider-Man. By the way, the Silver Surfer show, much like Spider-Man Unlimited and Avengers United They Stand, isn't cannon to the 90s Marvel animated universe. So it really shouldn't count.
