I know 10% about video. Just concerned with stills. I make wildlife images for my joy - not income. R7, EF 100-400 L ii, EF 500 F4 L is i, 0.71x speedbooster, 1.4x TCiii etc. Comparatively real budget stuff. Gives me great performance and I am happy. Even so, makes hunting look like a poor man’s hobby

In my yard, I have a water garden, three feeders as sunflower seed, millet and corn mixed with peanuts and one for meal worms. Then I set up my dorama where the birds will land. I have blinds set with the sun at its back. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not but I enjoy it and it brings in wildlife. On week ends I venture out for overnight trips etc. life is good and I am older than most of you!

I recently received my 105mm Nikon f2.8 macro for my Z8 and have been having a blast focus stacking mushrooms with it. I agree with you about people probably thinking I am a nerd! Who cares? The images are worth it!

Will the Nikon AF-S 600mm f/4 D II ED IF version be as sharp as the f/4E FL ED VR ? Greetings.

I have been on mirrorless for very long time now. Early adopter I must say. I always had a EM1.3 and OM1.1 for some time now paired either Canon or Nikon. I always was struggeling with the Olympus to catch fast moving subject. Even the OM1.1 was bad at AF tracking. So after the Z6 excursion crap and having had a stellar Canon R6, I thought to give the Z6ii a shot as the Z-mount has quite improved now. Good image quality, good lenses and a really sub par AF-C mode. Yes, the Z8 is much better, but its way over size, weight and price I would accept. My hope now is the Z6iii. Yeah, Canon R6 mark II would have been the perfect match. But it is way more expensive than my little Z6ii. The 300PF and the 500PF are sooo good, Canon has nothing in this size and weight. Yes, the Z6ii has a crappy autofocus which make me loose a lot of wild life shots and on top its 14-Bit frame rate is nowhere near the Canon. So, Nikon, give me that Z6iii with the AF from the Z8 and I am sure this will be a different story

First, really nice video. While I agree with you in general about the Sony delivering, while being far less expensive, I think there are some real ways the Nikon Z9 pulls away from the A7IV in terms of image quality. The colour science and tonal separation, if these are in fact real terms, is stronger, in my opinion, on the Nikon. The Sony groups the oranges and yellows and also struggles with the range of greens. Yes, you can edit these and pull them apart in post, but there is nothing like getting those colours separated in camera. I also like the way the Nikon delivers landscape images. Just to let you know, I am a Sony shooter saying all this.

Interesting. I’d be keen to hear your view for people who don’t do video. Would you choose the Z6ii over a D500 on that basis? With a D500 costing £800 used, is a Z6ii worth £2,000!? And even if Nikon improve the AF with the Z6iii, what will they charge for it? What you say about Sony and Canon AF rings true. What keeps me with Nikon is my 300/f4 and 500/f5.6. I do keep wondering however: what about an A7iv and an adapter …

I've been happy with my m43 setup these last two years. But on Monday i went out and came back disappointed after trying to get some shots on a grey day. I am thinking i need either the Olympus 300mm pro or a full frame setup for those days. But I'm not sure if either the 300mm or going full frame is going to help that? As i just have no experience of either. People rave about the canon r5 but the lenses i can afford are F7.1, F8 and F9 at the long end. Ok i can bump the iso higher but will that really make up for the F4 of the Olympus lens?

Don't pay attention to the people walking by. Keep doing what you love and pretend they're not there. Macro introduces you to a new tiny world that they have no clue about. Who knows, ,maybe someone might find it fascinating enough that they might get into macro photography! Awesome photos by the way!

I grew up with a mom who is a birder and my grandfather on my dad's side loves wildlife photography and when he bought his 1st DSLR it sparked an interest with me so my parents bought me a Kodak point and shoot and I used that for 10 years till I could save up for my 1st DSLR the Canon EOS Rebel T3 which I bought used and I still use it today. What I have learned is what matters is the user and the lens is for creativity. I use a Sigma 150-600 and a EF 24-105 f/4 L, all I could ask for is higher frame rate.

That inner monologue is so accurate! I can't help but compare my photos with those incredible photos I see on social media. Sometimes I wonder if it's the camera brand, if it's the editing process, some type of lightroom filter being applied, etc. Anyways, I have so much to learn about composition and editing, and I'm going through that process. I suppose it's a matter of time now...
