I have never understood an outdoor kitchen, I understand the option for when the weather is good, but....when it is cold, or rains, or snows, what then and it is far from stealth. You don't really need a camper a tent will do.

I have a version of the cause of corrosion. perhaps these are galvanic processes due to the current flowing from the generator. the current path through the engine and gearbox to the body. just in case, I shortened this path by adding a wire from the generator mounting bolt to the body in the closest place.

Very interesting design! it is convenient that garbage will fall not into the interior but out the door. the reverend cantrol of the water level. it is a pity that it is not suitable for winter and rainy weather

Hi Kirt, I'd love to see pictures of the 'trunk' & clothes, outdoor stuffs storage, please. I really like this design, seems more weight balanced than the Westia set-up as well as simpler for make up/breakdown every day for the bed. I have recently lucked into a gutted syncro hitop & am looking around to see what makes the best sense for a single woman & a dog & am surprised to see westia setups inside syncros - coming from a 2 door Jeep off-roading background that seems like an unbalanced cargo load waiting to be a disaster. Thanks so much for sharing this!

I haven't had the chance to build real cabinets for the trunk yet but I was able to rig something up that has worked so well I kinda forgot I wanted to make custom cabinets back there. Thanks so much for this. It makes more sense to me to have the kitchen stuff near the slider, as well as on the opposite side of the van from the driver for a slightly better weight distribution too. I am glad to see this, since I have a gutted interior so have opportunity to try this.

Spot on about the corrosion. It's a poor head gasket design, having a rubber seal is not a good idea for longevity, the rubber goes hard, allows coolant to sit in between the gasket and it corrodes. Note that no other watercooled engine uses a rubber seal!

I made the sink lower and replaced the fridge with a Dometic CFF 45. Switched the hose back to the blue self coiling variety like my original red kitchen. You can find a video of that old kitchen further back in my channel. I also added a ceiling fan and some other bits and bobs. Look on my instagram. @tintopcamper

I love it too! They aren't made anymore. I bought all I could find and a bunch of spare lids after they stopped making them from whatever random place I could find that still had them on the internet. It's probably eight years ago that they last made them. Contigo Desk Mug I think it's called.

This is so badass! I am currently in the process of (re)building out my '82 Vanagon tintop and this solves SO many of the issues I am dealing with. It's an awesome combo of a bunch of different components I want/need. Question for you; how do you make it so you can still access the engine? It's kinda hard to tell from this photo but I imagine the sink/cabinet stops before hitting the engine...Anyway I can I get a closer look at your headboard? I was going to build a pull-out platform but this seems like a clever solution.

I just bought a tin top with the intention of turning into a camper and have been scouring the internet for ideas. Your van is by far the best looking, most well-thought out van I’ve seen. I may get some haters but I think this is a far superior setup to the Westy, especially if you only need room for a max of two people. Your videos are really well done also. I would absolutely love to see more detail on where you put everything in your sink cabinet and what the trunk area looks like. Please make us another video!
