I don't think most people realise how closely related these four Elves are. Though Celembrimbor is portrayed to look much older, he is the grandson of Feanor, (half) brother of Galadriel's father Finarfin, which makes him younger by a generation. Same goes for Gil-Galad, he is the grandson of Fingolfin, who was Feanor's and Finarfin's brother. To contextualise: All three of them were born before the Sun and Moon even existed, in the years of the Trees, making them anywhere between 3500 and 5000 (mortal) years old at this time. Elrond's lineage is quite interesting. He is the son of the blessed Earendil, who was the son of Idril (who is Gil-Galad's granddaughter) and a mortal man named Tuor. On his mother's side, his mother Elwing is the daughter of Dior, whose parents are the famous Beren (a mortal with exceptions) and Lúthien. Lúthien's mother was a maia (lower level angel) called Melian, and his father was Elwe (Elu) Thingol, who was the brother of Galadriel's grandfather, Olwe. Oh, and he later becomes the son-in-law of Galadriel, marrying her daughter Celebrian.

As soon as they awoke, they were corrupted by Morgoth, who came to them in a fair form and promised them many great things if they submitted to him instead of Eru. This is how evil and darkness began to take root in those remote regions of Arda. Sauron took advantage of the malice and corruption that Morgoth had sown and sought to subjugate the "wild men of darkness" who inhabited the far east and south of Middle-earth. That is why, in regions like Rhûn and Harad, people worship the Dark Lords as god-kings who will deliver them from their misery and lead them to greatness by conquering the west.

I think I found Adar and the orcs the most compelling thing about this show. The traditional bad guys having a traditional good guy motive (find home and identity) is an excellent creative twist. Sadly, we all know Sauron gets his way in the end, so Adar us doomed. But it will be entertaining to see how he struggles against that doom.

@@seasidescott Well bad writing for one but if she had just left to Valinor then she never would have ran into Sauron who was in the guise of Halbrand struggling with his crisis of faith. It seems from the 1st season of Ring of Powers that if not for Galadriel selfishly staying on Middle Earth, her pep talking encouraging Sauron to be a "king" again, and promising him that no matter how evil you are that you can still come back to the light that one was not to far gone. I think the strongest reason for how she makes him evil is the fact that she willingly and directly interacts with him and tries to selfishly use him culminating to her eventually rejecting him. This embitters him and causes his heart to harden. Unable to differentiate making saving middle earth and ruling it (control/power) he begins to undue the Elves and create a new world in his image of "decency".
@seasidescott Жыл бұрын
@@mansashaka He didn't "turn bad" or "harden his heart", Sauron was responsible for uncounted atrocities, "led or had a part in every evil of Middle Earth" (Silmarillion) for centuries and a thorough explanation of his character is given by Tolkien about his perfectionist, controlling personality led him to Melkor/Morgoth to get power to force all to his will. Basically like the Borg or out of control AI deciding living creatures were the problem, they are so messy and chaotic, and have to go! Galadriel was told to leave Middle Earth on false pretext: that Sauron was dead. Why was Halbrand/Sauron fleeing the southlands on a ship? He still feared Adar apparently and even the orcs, excuse me, Uruk, hated and distrusted him. Nowhere have you given evidence of Sauron having a total change of heart or reformation prior to Galadriel showing up. He already had come into possession of the real king of the southlands insignia and he certainly didn't find that floating in the water after the sea monster attacked. More likely he stole it and even with his limited power was able to summon the beast to destroy any evidence that he wasn't the rightful king, doing so again to finish the job and dispose of the two other survivors conveniently in the patrol waters of Numenor. Galadriel's presence turns out to be a bonus as she can now corroborate his story and provide good distraction to the Numenoreans. He saves her from drowning for this reason. In the Silmarillion he is also given the chance to go to the Valar and repent, if his heart had actually changed, but flees instead to the east. But to me the single biggest thing is that settles it is Adar and the uruk hating him, too, for his centuries of abuse of them. Sauron can't help but be a dick. That is his nature. Oh! Let's not forget the demon space witches that thought the wizard was Sauron and trying to awaken his memory, indiscriminately slaughtering whoever they came upon. Probably the plan is for them to aid his return to power by helping kill Adar and re-enslave the orcs. Can't we just get behind Adar if we need to exercise a bleeding heart? He's right in so much of what he says and his motives are clearly stated and somehow noble. Their actions aren't all that great but even taking prisoners for slave labor is a fraction of a step up from the rest of the inhabitants of ME killing orcs on sight just because they are orcs. There's plenty of evidence even after a thousand years when Return of the King takes place that the orcs aren't all unified and happy being minions of Sauron. One thing you can bank in Sauron's favor: "The Lord of the Rings" was named after him! In a way, he sorta won.
