I don't think most people realise how closely related these four Elves are. Though Celembrimbor is portrayed to look much older, he is the grandson of Feanor, (half) brother of Galadriel's father Finarfin, which makes him younger by a generation. Same goes for Gil-Galad, he is the grandson of Fingolfin, who was Feanor's and Finarfin's brother. To contextualise: All three of them were born before the Sun and Moon even existed, in the years of the Trees, making them anywhere between 3500 and 5000 (mortal) years old at this time. Elrond's lineage is quite interesting. He is the son of the blessed Earendil, who was the son of Idril (who is Gil-Galad's granddaughter) and a mortal man named Tuor. On his mother's side, his mother Elwing is the daughter of Dior, whose parents are the famous Beren (a mortal with exceptions) and Lúthien. Lúthien's mother was a maia (lower level angel) called Melian, and his father was Elwe (Elu) Thingol, who was the brother of Galadriel's grandfather, Olwe. Oh, and he later becomes the son-in-law of Galadriel, marrying her daughter Celebrian.

I will say it will simple words : Elves have epic wits and knowledge and have seen pretty much everything . So talking like that to each other is no more than a mortal man arguing.

Elves have not seen everything, they are wise but they're still personable creatures and can deliberate over certain matters. Even the Valar themselves argued with each other and were often uncertain about what course of action was best.

I gotta say, I like the idea of the elven rings being powered by what is essentially an echo of the light of the two trees. It ties in nicely with their focus on that light source (as oppose to another set of echos, the sun and the moon). It also gives more reason for there to be things from Valinor in Elven lands (mallorn tree). Finally, it shows the paradoxial nature of what the elves were trying to do on Middle-Earth. The reason why the plan failed was it was a contradiction of the music, undone in the destruction of the person who set up the plan.

Mithril's had a value of 10x that of gold in the lore. When do we get to the point where they are making helmets and mail out of it?

The hesitation to mine right now is seemingly the way the dwarves are more "naturally" meant to be, perhaps act as designed. The greed that the dwarven rings had on their attitude would definitely be like, "ok boys, time to dig!" So tldr, probably sometime after the dwarves get their rings and up to the moment of the Balrog started Balrogging Khazad Dum into Moria. If you think about all the gold and valuables they got with the ring, it wouldn't be too hard to think that is the cause of the some of the jealously we see in the Hobbit. Literally most of that treasure would not exist without Sauron so it wouldn't be hard to think of it as cursed blood-money.

@@albdamned577 good point none of the dwarven treasure hoards were made until the 7 dwarf rings. Not sure if they stockpiled mithril only remember Sauron doing that much later.

@@johno1544 Mithril was well known about before it was started to be mined in Khazad Dum. the show kind of fucks it up, because part of the Reason numenor is so rich is because they have several mines of Mithril, they use it as a symbol of power and trade it to enrich themselves further, they also had mails and armor. When a mine in khazad Dum is revealed by the Dwarves, Elves build ost in Edhil just to be closer to it, and start building forges and bring their best smiths to work on the mithril traded with the dwarves. Show just kind of fucked everything up.

Its interesting that RoP tries to explain why the elves wanted to make the rings by using the mithrils magical powers and thereby explaining why the elves tried to make the rings. I don't think Tolkien mentioned why they would be motivated to make the rings in Tolkien's works, however I am not Tolkien scholar.

No you’re definitely not a Tolkien scholar. It was actually mentioned that the three Elven rings were created to prevent their realms decay. In the books they are created after Annatar taught ring making.

Its like 69 but you do it to yourself..
