    Sorry if this is a stupid question, but can you capture standalone preamps with the Tonex? I'd really like to capture some of my rack preamps so that I can use the Tonex pedal through a power amp instead of the preamps.

  • @LonelyRocker
    @LonelyRockerКүн бұрын

    Not stupid at all. Absolutely. You can try capturing it like a pedal. Or try running it through your power amp and capture it like an amp and see what sounds better. Make sure to capture it without a cab. Would love to hear about your results!

    Hey Lonely! Just got my FM9 this week...and boy it sucks like a donky's ass!!! I have no 1 preset that sounds nothing like no ne from youtube!! what did I buy!!!!>???? From my tustful BOSS GT-100!!! Now, if Neal Sean is using it in concert, is not a scam. obviously I'm doing something wrong! They advise to turn Cabinet Modeler off (rocket science lingo)...I have: strat usa -> FM9 -> Hughes & Kettner clean channel no effects from the amp....any help is greatly appreciated it! Well the biggest mistake you are making is plugging into the front of a tube amp. You’ll never hear what it can do that way. That’s like plugging an amp into an amp. You should research how best to monitor it and then you’ll discover how great it sounds.

    17:05 idk about other DAWs, but Cubase has 2 plugin slots postfader and it's one really great use of this method that makes it feel so much more organic! If you place some kind of "analog* saturation plug-in (like decapitator or the free softube saturation knob, etc.) and set the levels so it clips at the same volume on every channel, it's like you're pushing into a real circuit with a real saturation point

    Here I sit, in my RUSH T-shirt, in my lonely studio with a poster of Rush from '76, Al and Ged both with double necks. The things I loved most about his playing were his ferocious vibratos and the high E and B ringing open so often. And the "clean" distorted tones, like in Fly By Night...is there a modeler that can nail that sound? Hemespheres is my favorite album by them.

    Often times the best guitar tone in a mix can sound crappy in the room. I’ve been using tube amps for over 40 years and my experience is that a great sound in the room does not always translate to recording. It often ends up being low in bass, high in mids and treble to cut through and not compete with the bass guitar and keyboards. So the correct reference for everybody should be the recorded tone, because that’s the end result you have as a reference.

    I’ve owned the FR S version for about two years now, with a locking nut I can’t comment on the tuners. In terms of everything else it’s been rock solid through various climates. In fact, it’s so solid it amazes me when temps change through the seasons and all my other guitars require a truss rod adjustment, but this one stays stable.

    I've been using the Axe Fx3 Mk2 for close to 2 tears in my home studio, it's the Lamborghini of modelers and effects. However it's way overkill to bring to simple smaller gigs because you'll also need their foot controller. However, the Axe Fx FM9 is a floor model all in one for gigging, so you get all the best sounding effects and amp modeling. As to the complication issue?, not true, if you go with any of the 384 outstanding factory presets, and choose the ones you like, you can simply tweak them and save them, it's easy as that. The complication issue can arise if you decide to deep dive in the parameters, you can go down to the most minut tweaking if you wish too, and no one else comes close to that.

    This video is one of those "correct enough for now" videos. Mid/Side is a misleading name for this, its really more Sum/Difference. Its the sum of the left and right channels (which is what happens when you mono a channel) and the difference which you get by inverting the polarity of one of the channels. This means hard panned elements will appear in **both** the mid and side channel. Especially with percussion youre much better off just making the track mono and panning them around where you want them rather than smearing the transients around. Natural phase mid/side eq can be useful to mess with stereo image sometimes but it shouldn't be your "go-to" for clarity. If you cant get a clear mix with simple tools (no spectrum analyzer) you shouldn't be messing around with mid/side eq. Furthermore using a m/s eq to cut side frequencies will effectively pan that part of the spectrum center which can ***decrease*** clarity especially in the mids. Seeing only comments argreeing with him worries me that he may be shutting down descenting voices which would suck because this is considered fundamental knowledge for using m/s eq and m/s processing in general. Bonus tip: goodhertz has a free m/s matrix that preserves the left/right difference by inverting the polarity back after the in phase information has been removed giving you a better way to hear whats actually going on with your m/s processors so you don't have to trust your eyes. I do recommend using headphones with the plugin.

I have a Crate BV120H that’s the black & silver newer cosmetics and it’s F/N raw - it sounds much better than the blue and gold cosmetics that I used to have and sold after I bought the black and silver because the black and silver sounds like a Marshall, where the blue and gold sounds very treble and thin although it does have more gain.

    The verify if the nut is bone or plastic. Just take a sowing needle and heat it it till it is red. Then try and poke into the side. If the needle sinks into the nut, it is plastic. If not, it is either bone or some kind of hard material like graphite or or a hybrid material with graphite in it.

    You hold your guitar all wrong. And so do thousands of others. You rest the guitar on your right leg like most people who dont wear a strap. And then you got used to it like thousands of others. The offset means nothing but the shape. The 12th fret doesnt matter where it is on your body. Classical style, which i am speaking about, puts the 12th fret on your left shoulder. The bad habit leads to players playing on the 12th to 24th frets swing or push the guitar in front of them to the correct position to be comfortable. Bad habits are hard to break. This mainly came along 20 years ago with lazy poor players who couldnt afford a strap resting the guitar on the leg. College acoustic side banger and neck swaying idiots made this happen. Eddie Van Halen doesnt do this crap, why do you? The offset is simply fender making a new body shape but retaining the dual cut. And dont give me that horseshit about "its the way I play", well your doing it wrong and happy with your choice.

    I have this amp and I love it... to me the 50 watt sounds warmer than the 100w , and you also get pentode/triode switching on the back panel (technically triode/tetrode!) which I've found gives a choice between harder rock tones and rounder bluesy sound. these amps do get a lot of hate - I guess people were looking for a hotter JCM800 when these came out... which isn't really what this amp is about.... but the 900 SL-X I would say pretty much has the tube purists and "chuggers" covered. Very much agree that you need to listen to these in a mix, not just solo!!! - ironic that people say these sound thin... then they go and record with a boogie or something.... once the bass guitar is in the mix, they end up cutting the low end of the guitar anyway!!!! lol Trust your ears. play what sounds good! :)

    900-1200 bucks? I can find a DSL100 for 500€. 799€ new. Why would you pay that much for a JCM900 that's JCM800/SLP1959 used prices for reissues... 1987x is 1400 new. Last time I saw a JCM900 for sale it was the 100 W dual reverb (so same one I think) for 800€ INCLUDING a 20 year old Gibson Les Paul Studio in good condition. Now granted that was heck of a deal and I was too broke to snag it before it was gone (about a day later...). But 1200 for a used JCM900 is steep, they're 1400 new, which is quite expensive for a Marshall, you can get a 20 W JCM800 or Plexi for 800 bucks new.
