I think your choice to move the frame a bit to the center was good! A lot of the original shots were more centered than the remastered ones, and while yours look great as well, the fact that you noticed when one of them didn't look quite right and worked to fix it definitely helped
@jjstarrprod7 күн бұрын
Ok, professional animation short film director, here. That's a pretty AMAZING work ! The fact that you're a non-pro but still managed to expand all these shots by basically brute force, without knowing the proper workflow of an animation show, and be able to figure out some decent workarounds to get it right is pretty damn awe-inspiring. Not to mention that you made a lot of great calls in terms of reframing the composition of some shots (putting Jhao to the left and giving more room for his flames was absolutely the correct choice !) I'm very much looking forward to see the rest of your series.

I drew a lot as a kid and teen and I never got to a level nearly this good! You are doing great. I can see the weakness you mentioned, namely proportions, but that seems to be a very common issue even some professionals will struggle with at times, and Im sure will become negligible with further practice.

I think changing the composition of certain scenes was a great move! it uses the frame to aid the sense of scale and feels more like it could have been made in 16:9 originally

I love these videos more and more not only because of how much of a handle you are getting on the animation but also with how much intention you put into the new framing and composition. I was initally skeptical with an idea like this when i saw your first video because I was worried about everything looking off with just extra nothing on the edges but you've proved me so wrong and have added to these scenes in a way where they just make sense in 16:9. Its fantastic.
@awesomeguyalpha14677 күн бұрын
this is so great, it looks exactly as i would imagine the series to look like if it got an actual remaster and dude you've improved so much, previously there was a slight difference between what you drew and the animation and if one knew where to look it looked a bit weird but this one's perfect especially you changing all those things to better suit the 16:9 aspect ratio

GODDAMN ! I've been working in the animation industry for 15 years, and seeing you adding all these complementary animations basically by brute forcing them in is fascinating ! Really well done, man. Especially if you're telling me you're not actually a pro, that's forcing the respect ! And yes, as a pro, I can tell, you made a lot of great calls. Splitting Sokka and Katara further apart to fit better the 16/9 composition was absolutely the right decision (if it was me, I would have kept them just a tiiiiny smidge closer, to get a perfectly balanced triangle with Aang within the frame, but yours was already 90% there), and the way you pushed Aang to the left when he's on the Koi's back waving at Katara was also absolutely the good decision. The only one I would have a gripe with is at the overview reveal of Unagi, that you also pushed to the left. This one I would have kept it centered, since Unagi was kind of the main focus point of the shot. But other than that, all your other choices all made sense, and it was a pure joy to watch. Well done ! And looking forward to see what else you're gonna come up with in the future !
@maxonite7 күн бұрын
I thought the same about the unagi scene, it would have required a bit more effort on the mointains to the left but it zooming out from the center definitely works for the reveal better

2:23 I like that you thought of putting more space between them for the different ratio! I could think of another trick of maybe scaling them up a bit (and yes maybe move them a little more back together) so the picture looks more crowded or cramped like the 4:3. As if the viewer is looking a bit more closer over their shoulders?

First video I've seen and first of all, wow massive respect for doing all this! I'll just share my thoughts. Moving the old frames entirely to the sides is probably not a good idea because our eyes keep darting back and forth (in this instance Aang on the left, Katara scenes on the right). Usually the focus points stay nearly the same in transitions. Also at 14:50 Aang just dips from the frame because he enters your extension but you didn't animate him ;)
@abbe12558 күн бұрын
I feel like you've improved massivly. In the first episodes you can fairly clearly see where the transition from original to yours is, but now it's a LOT harder
@lowkeyproductions66818 күн бұрын
On the katara and sokka spacing thing - I think you made the right call spacing them out. They do look a little far apart though, for next time a cheat you could try is resizing them to be slightly bigger as well, so their heads take up more space, and it looks like the camera is just closer to them, and then the wider gap feels more natural in relation
@baggelissonic8 күн бұрын
2 things you could try in the future 1. You don't have to start with the original frame always in the middle or all the way to the right or all the way to the left. You can just place it a little bit to the left or a little bit to the right. 2. You don't have to commit on just expanding the same side for the entire scene. If there is a panning shot you can just have the camera be a little faster or slower during the panning than the original shot. That way, it's possible to have a character go all the way from left to right or vice versa. (In case that was too hard to understand, imagine you place the original frame on the left side of the scene, which means you would need to expand the right, but by the end of the scene the original frame is all the way to the right side of the screen. To do that, first the scene would need to have a side by side panning camera. If the camera is going from left to right, you can speed up the camera movement, but if it's going from right to left you just need to slow down the camera.) Trust me, both of these will break up the 4:3 feeling wayyy more than you think.
