This is proof that, in the right hands, a fretless bass can be one of if not the most beautiful instruments out there. It also doesn’t hurt to have one of the best bassists of all time playing it.

🙌🏻 Michael Manring ♡ humble LEGEND ♡ This piece was filmed on December 2, 2007, the 10th anniversary of Michael Hedges' death. MM+ MH compadres forever. MM: ~ and i named after one my favorite books” - written by American poet, e.e. cummings - although this is not a book of poetry. It’s about his experiences as an ambulance driver in WWI. The book is called The Enormous Room. i took it to mean: the world is like a single enormous room. {cummings transforms a tale of unjust incarceration into a high-energy romp and a celebration of the indomitable human spirit.} 🙌🏻The album’s closer is a very emotional complete solo bass work appropriately named 'The Enormous Room'. Once again Manring uses harmonics with sailing fretless slides to create unmatched texture: a truly beautiful way to end the album. Review by Tapfret - Thoṅk(1994) ♡ P.S. i’m grateful that Michael played his transcendent masterpiece at Ranger Bob’s memorial concert, Yosemite, October 11, 2022 filmed by Randy Lutge >>> kzread.info/dash/bejne/qamsp8yEdNuwd9o.html

I did not mention that there are also switches on the bridge as well for each string. So this means you have 6 different tunings for each string and...a whole lotta different combinations of overall tunings for the actual bass. To me his composition of this is complete and utter wizardry.
