Really enjoying your content way down yonder in Argentina, I have a 2004 Montero Limited I bought from a couple who drove it all the way down from Alaska, it runs great except for one issuie occasionaly when starting my Montero , this issue happens only lets say 1/15 starts, she mostly fires right up, but sometimes I get in and it does not respond when I turn the key. All the dash lights are on when I am trying to start it, but nothing from the starter. I've always been able to get her it fire up by shifting into nuetral and trying again except or today she wouldnt even fire in neutral. I finally managed to get her to fire after shaking the battery a bit. I did replace the battery a couple of weeks ago so dont think this is the issue. Please let me know if you have any suggestions, parts are hard to come by down here.

Nice build brother. If you want to get more travel on the front suspension, there is a company from italy that sells a upper control arm kit that supposedly allows for 2" more travel (in droop obviously). Although I own two second gens, I haven't tried this long travel kit yet. Anyways, thanks for showing your build. It's really awesome to see that some people are picking up on the second gen pajeros. Five years ago I thought no one would care for them anymore and that they all would just slowly disappear..

I am working on a 1990 Montero. First time to do anything like this. So far I have found most of what I needed on Rock Auto. Ive looked around locally at junkyards and Facebook Marketplace. Any other places I should know about to find some of these parts? Previous owner, 90 year old guy, thinks it needs a new ECM and Ive had zero luck finding that yet. I found some stuff on ebay where you send them the ECM and they supposedly fix it and return it for $140. Is that legit? I am not in a rush for the ECM yet anyway since I am trying to eliminate other stuff first.

I have also had Mk 3 x Mk 1. 2 x MK2. 2 x Mk3. The best was the MK 2, with 2.8 diesel. I like the DiD 3.2diesel in the MK 3 but it is no longer tough like the Mk 2. Still a great long trip cruiser which gets through even tough conditions. I estimate I have driven 1.5 million kilometers or more in Pajeros.

Hey! Looking for some advice in the Montero community, I got my Monty, and the previous owner, put 275/70 16R, no lift, but he put spacers, now the truck in the streaming wheel has a little bit of give when driving it, is hard to explain but it almost feels a little wiggly is like if it was loose by millimeters. Would the tires be the ones doing this? Or could be something else?

Those 3.0L umin the first gen Montero are non interference! Valves and piston should be alright!

Legit question, if the Montero has so many severe issues why is still popular? Is because people like to to practice mechanics? Or because even with all of its flaws in the wild is a capable vehicle?

Hi! I just recently did a full rear suspension swap with Konis and Lovells. I'm noticing the slightest lopsidedness where the left side sits very slightly higher than the right. Any idea why and bow to fix this? Thank you!

hi. I have a 2001 Montero. When turning right(More uphill, serpentine when I turn), there is a knocking sound coming from the right rear wheel. Could it be the rear hub?

Hey man! We talked years ago when you asked about buying my gray 2ng gen SR in Colorado. (this was before you had your first Montero and now your an expert) I'm about to do this and VCGs on my 05 Limited. I got some annoying oil leaks towards the back on the motor cause oil to leak on the exhaust and smell terrible with every drive. Is there any tricks to do the VCGs once the manifold is off ? Or is everything pretty accessible? Also , I want to replace my rear cam seals as I think they are leaking as well. Would it be easier to do while the manifold is off or from the back/underneath the engine? Glad to see you've become a major player in the Montero community.

I have a soft pedal when i brake in 01 montero. But if o pump it a couple times, its not soft. I'm not losing any fluid, but am suspicious of the booster...

Great video. Did this over the weekend. Also changed spark plugs and leads. Put everything back toghether, start her up and idles smoothly. Slight revs and engine dies. If just at idle check engine light comes on. Checked for error codes and im getting 12,13 & 25. Have triple checked everything just incase I missed something but all hoses and plugs are connected. Any idea what it might be?

I don’t much about monteros but I love the look of the gen 1 series. I have a 97 4 runner and I’m considering selling it and getting the Montero. Can someone chime in on the longevity and access to parts. I don’t plan on doing any rock climbing. Just dirt roads creek camping with the family. The one I’m buying has a newly rebuilt engine. It’s super clean. A LS model. Everything works perfect. $8500. Is this a good deal and has any readers switched from 3rd gen 4 runner to 1st gen Montero? Thanks in advance.
