All About The Drive

All About The Drive

Driving is my life... or it has been since 2005 when I got my CDL and became an OTR Trucker. My love for automobiles goes back way further though - that sweet 1963 Rambler 770 series that I only ever got to drive 30 miles...well, that's a story for another day! Join me for Tales from the Truck as well as trips, trials and tribulations as I travel the world to experience all of my bucket list driving adventures. I'm really looking forward to reading your comments and learning what you would like to see or learn that is "All About The Drive".

I will be posting at least once a week, usually on Saturday - don't forget to check it out!

When I travel by the great roads in BC I get a deep sense of appreciation for the amount of work that's been done and is continuing to be done to make our lives safer and easier to get around. Taxes well spent. However, due to the geology of this province, I can imagine an earthquake or rock slide can cause massive destruction and travel chaos. Hopefully that won't happen any time soon. Great video.

The irony is that the tailgater thinks he is so in the right. Meanwhile he is the wrong and breaking the speed limit law. He comes up so fast and is sitting on your tail barely before you have a chance to assess whether you are really past the truck enough to move back into the right lane. Then imperiously demands that you move over. Everyone must give way to him and do as he pleases. His need for speed apparently gives him rights over every other road user.

I was driving home from work around midnight. Three lanes and nobody within half mile. A car catches me from behind. We are both in the center lane and I am moving just under the posted limit. The other car gets about 1 car length behind me and starts flashing their headlights. With open lanes on both sides he keeps this up for a mile before I exit the road.

Sorry man. I know you’re taking a lot of heat on this video, and I can appreciate where you’re coming from. But just from an objective perspective, no hate at all, you were actually more at fault here. I know you were passing the semi, but you didn’t move over quickly after passing him, and you didn’t seem to have any regard for people behind you that were driving faster than you. I know a lot of people have the idea that if they’re driving the speed limit, or even going well above the speed limit, that that means no one behind them has any right to complain. But it’s simply not the case. If people behind you are attempting to drive faster than you are and you’re holding up traffic by driving slower than then and not politely seeing them coming and getting out of their way before they catch up to you, you’re the one who is being inconsiderate.

Tailgators are like spoiled brats who weren't beaten by their father enough if at all to understand discipline and that the world doesn't revolve around them. They constantly think everyone has to move out of the way for them, as if everyone around them owes these assholes something. Do the fucking speed limit, if you think someone is slow than pass them or be fucking patient till you can, the world aint gonna move faster for you because you're in a hurry, tough shit for you, aint my problem, grow up and act like a mature adult instead of some spoiled brat child. Im constantly tailgated and i keep up with the flow of traffic but i also give myself space from the car in front because i aint about to speed excessively and potentially crash because some idiot behind me wants to get somewhere quickly. It literally doesn't matter how good of a driver you are, you'll always have your life put in danger because of other people's reckless driving and lack of respect for everyone around them. Edit: btw the saying that you're "slowing the traffic flow" is a sore ass excuse of an attempt to justify their need to speed, if everyone around you is doing the same speed and or you're passing people in the overtake lane, you aint slowing anyone down even if the asshole thinks you are just because he can't pass you of which you have no obligation of any kind to let them pass you when you're already well above the speed limit passing other drivers. The slightest inconvenience will always piss these assholes off. 😒

Actually if you are doing the speed limit you have no obligation to move over. I recently spoke to a State Trooper about this and what was expected with regards to the "left lane is for passing only" signs. He said anyone going the posted speed has no obligation to move over, especially if they are being pressed by someone who is speeding.

Ever since this DEFUND the police movement this has gotten worse along with other crimes. You could be going 100 mph and someone will tailgate you! The problem is people that don’t follow the laws or speed limits. Then want to get on your a$$ even if you are doing 75 to 80 in the fast lane they want yo do 100. They don’t even give you a chance yo get over in heavy traffic just fly up on your bumper! Block your view so you can’t even SEE in order TO get over!!!

This is why you get ticketed/fined in Germany. Passing semi, is cool, but then not moving over after, not good. The other fellow, while not being productive might have been a frustrated German who doesn't get why people aren't following the usual road rules. Passing on the right is strictly illegal there so you gotta tailgate and flash until the other moves over (if they aren't already passing someone).

Just because the left lane is for passing doesn’t mean it’s for speeding, the speed limit is to always be obeyed. It’s actually unsafe to speed, so if I look in my rearview mirror and notice that someone is speeding I will merge over in-front of them and gladly block them so they can’t speed and put other drivers lives in jeopardy. I actually think it’s funny because they get mad. 😂
