    Sounds more like a volume pot issue... Do you have cross talking between pickups ? This is caused by faulty pots that let signal flow through the ground and is a very common issue with two volumes wiring.

  • @EricMorettin
    @EricMorettin6 сағат бұрын

    I know the value would decrease if you were drilling into the guitar to fix the wiring issue, like what Grady had to do for Dime. It would be worth looking into if you can rewire and not drill extra holes in the body to get rid of the hum/fix the wiring.

    @@EricMorettin i'm guessing the drill is to add a screw to the shielded cavity? well, i personally would want the guitar working properly- hang the silly mistakes the manufacturer made. or i'd sell the guitar. but if it's a good one i plan to keep, i'd bite the bullet and get it fixed. just my 2c.

    Interesting. I know washburn and DEan are different companies, but, Ive had 3 ( not just one, lol) Dime guitars with toggle switch issues. had the dime o flage replaced with a gibson switch) Is it normal for them to wear overtime? Idk, this cemetary gates I was told "wasnt played much", and after a month of playing it there is no sound coming from the trebIe ( I have to joggle it a few times for it to work. , just never had this happen with any other models. I wonder what model switches they use. The DFH Ive played for 3 years and its switch also has issues with the treble (its always the treble) starting occurring after a couple years of use. I do play everyday so, wear and tear could be it.

    I’d be curious to know if you have noticed this on the 95s as well. I previously owned/sold a 95 Blackjack (the one we talked about) that had the bridge pickup swapped out and the pickup selector worked the opposite way (based on the previous owner’s preference) - however it did not have a grounding issue/require a noise gate.

  • @EricMorettin

    No, Manley1979 is correct. Darrell was not satisfied with the quality of guitars the last year and a half he was with Washburn. I'm sure there was other business crap going down too, but the craftsmanship had dropped off. Quite a few returned guitars that made it into the publics hands and others they destroyed for fun....like the famous Slimebolt with 24 frets and a single coil neck pickup. Trashed that MOFO!!

    @@EricMorettin Like I said, I was around when all of this went down. I was at the first Dean show at the Ridglea theatre in Ft Worth!! I literally had these discussions with Dime!! Another big part of it was Dimes chance to work with Dean Z, he was so stoked to be back in the Dean family. I know for a fact the Washy damageplan customs were way too heavy for Dime. They looked unreal and amazing but they were a nightmare to play. I'm just a fan but I was very lucky to be welcomed into the brother's universe. Love your channel bro!! It;s all about the music!!! PS I own the very first USA Dime Slime from Dean, #1!! (Rita authorized the build for me in 2012) We call it the Dean Manalishi lol There are some vids of it on my channel.

    None of my USA dimes have ever needed re-wiring, and I've had them for almost 20 years at this point. All of mine have the original all metal pickup selector switches that have the small contact sealed box on the bottom. Yours looks like a replacement switch as it has the plastic screw-on tip, and is probably the les Paul style with the open contacts...standard style on most guitars. None of mine hum, but I'm sure that if they ever did then my tech probably fixed them when I first got them and he went over them for their initial set-up. These metal tip switches do start to oxidize as time goes on,and are no longer gloss black. But I never leave mine sitting out, they are always in the case unless being played. At this point I mostly play the funky munky and boogie street imports to get my dime groove on as those are great dimes to beat on mercilessly.

  • @EricMorettin
    @EricMorettinКүн бұрын

    @@spoonerluv yeah the standards for production guitars have raised significantly in 20 years. With the USA production guitars (or other flagship lines from other reputable brands), you're paying for things like; the cost of labour, higher operating costs, and generally higher attention to detail. Most Import guitars have shot up in quality, and they're great. If you want an off the shelf guitar, get an import (for the most part). If you want custom; that's a different story.

    on all my guitars I have slight relief, as an example, under tension (tuned to how you plan to play), with the 1st and 17th fret pressed, measure from top of fret to bottom of string (gap) = 0.006" [0.15mm]. also, NUT height is important so that strings don't produce sharp note as you press them near the nut, the gap at the 1st fret with the third pressed = 0.004" [0.10mm]. once Neck and Nut are set, bridge or string height. if I go below, gap = 0.050" [1.27mm] Low E @ 12th fret and 0.040" [1.0mm] High E, then I have to play too soft as to not get buzz. I think if you can get Low E 0.060" [1.5mm]/High E 0.050" [1.27mm] gap your guitar is playing well! But if I can throw anything out there to new bloods, check that neck relief 1st, the nut will be high if you just purchased the guitar or haven't had a setup done. Set the string gap to 2.0mm on the low E and 1.75mm then play and adjust by feel and how much buzz you can live with remembering that most of that buzz is acoustic and will not be heard when playing at volume as well as, all electric guitars have a little buzz or fret noise. (I only say all of this cuz I was driving myself crazy chasing low action, the internet had me convinced if I couldn't get a 1mm string gap with no buzz something was wrong with my guitar! That's BS! by the way ) Good luck!

    This is the wrong unit for your guitar. The pin version is for non-square blocks. Floyd rose style blocks require the small clamp version. When marking the where your claw is with the tape, marking the back of the claw is incorrect, you want to mark where the actual claws are so that the springs are in the relative same position regardless if the original claw is a different size than the tremol-no claw. Wrapping the ground around the claw and held by the spring is a horrible idea... just strip the wire more, twist the strands and create a hook with the exposed wire then hook it onto the screw and tighten.
