    no there is no block in place like a said you need to install windows first then install linux aka pop os if they are going on the same drive with the linux install you get the option to install linux beside windows after installation and writing grub the boot loader grub will handle both windows and linux aka pop os no need to go in the bios boot menu ... as that boot loader will no longer work you have to select which you want to boot in the grub loader !!!!!

    The reason for Pop first has been because the NVME is attached to an M.2 port normally used for WIFI/Bluetooth. Under normal use the Stream can only Boot from eMMC, NVME is not supported. The 2 videos that were the inspiration to try this hack ( as they are also HP Stream Laptops like mine). They both require rEFInd. Now the instruction I followed from another Linux Expert said the lay out of the Partitions is how other Computers that do not support NVME are set so the Boots can happen(please see the redit post linked above). I will attempt as you say this weekend, but I know for a fact installing Windows to the NVME first the Laptop on first reboot after install will complain "No Boot Drive installed" As NVME is not supported. In any case so now I have to learn about Grub........ I am still new to Linux.

    the way to do it is install winblows first... after that linux aka pop os.... then grub will take over the windows boot ... do not use refind !!!!!

    does it work with computer hdmi output ? to connect a tablet/phone as a secondary screen ? i know there is a usb connectivity solution for this, but from usb to usb , not usb to hdmi .

  • @BudgetBuildBarry
    @BudgetBuildBarry3 ай бұрын

    I don't see why it would not work, my issue in that case would be Burnout of the HDMI Capture Device. They are not designed for continued use hour after hour. Streamers have reported burnout in as little as 6 months, but at $12 it is a cheep solution. I do however know there are already Software/App solutions to adding a phone/Tablet as extended Monitor via USB. I also know you can add a USB 3.0 Hub to a PC that can support 2 extra screens ( 1 port DVI and an HDMI). On my Wavlink USB 3.0 Hub I have a VGA screen hooked to the DVI output via a DVI to VGA adapter and a10 " touch screen on the HDMI output. My Graphics card handles the other 2 screens (DVI and HDMI). So after all that I hope maybe you can find a solution or a fix to fit your needs!!

    Had to chuckle about plugging in the USB at the 2:00 minute mark. It looked like the old USB connection fails... Try once (wrong direction), flip the plug once (still wrong direction), flip it back and it plugs right in. Happens all the time with USB plugs. :) Upon a closer review of the video, it was just the angle of the plug on the first attempt.

    I picked up one of those USB capture devices, the main problem I found was no stereo audio. However I never thought of using them to give me a HDMI monitor, increasingly needed these days with Raspberry pi's and other 'trinkets'

  • @BudgetBuildBarry
    @BudgetBuildBarry3 ай бұрын

    Yes the audio can be a deal breaker if you require sound, however to tinker with other devices can be the fun part for such little money!!! Many thanks for your time and input !!!!!

  • @BudgetBuildBarry
    @BudgetBuildBarry3 ай бұрын

    *EDIT* After some playing around and testing with footage, the HDMI Device does indeed capture Stereo audio. If the source of the HDMI signal (in my case a Sony HDR-CX220), has Stereo output the Capture device will use it. At least my model does, and as there are as many sellers of these China made devices as there are flavors of soda, research should help in most cases.

    Very interesting find! I've got all manner of old gadgets lying around that I love finding new uses for. I also think it's interesting that your Lenovo tablet appears to be a lot snappier than my identical Lenovo tablet. And an interesting accidental find on MY part: having previous to this, watched another video on 2X speed, I forgot to change back to normal speed, and at 2X you sound virtually identical to Art Bell on the old Coast to Coast. 🤣🤣🤣 I enjoyed the video!

    It's good to tinker with the old toys, I had even checked 2 old larger size Windows Phones with the Camera app ( as PC Camera app can ). The Lenovo Tab will bog down if you leave apps unclosed in background, poor old thing has only 1 Gig RAM total. So recording to SD Via app is a no go. I miss The old Art Bell show, it always was an interesting listen for the Night shift crew I was part of. Thank you for having a look and a wonderful message !!

    Of course it works, you are using a pen which emits an electric field (=active stylus) on a screen which registers distortions in it's own electric field (=capacitive screen). What this means is that any capacitive screen will get the same input from the pen as from your fingers(which also distort the electric field of the screen). The advantage of an active pen is that you get palm rejection on devices with an active digitizer because the active digitizer can differentiate between the weaker electric field from your fingers and the stronger electric field from the pen. When people say that an active stylus doesn't work with phones, etc. they probably mean that it can't use the palm rejection feature(for which an active stylus is designed). So technically you are correct(it does something) but practically they are also correct(it doesn't do the thing for which people buy an active stylus). EDIT: Yours isn't an active stylus. It seems more like a capacitive stylus which can talk via bluetooth to your devices to tell how much pressure you are putting on the pen, etc. The way that it works(registering of touches on the screen) is still the same as with how your fingers interact with a capacitive screen. A capacitive stylus has a tip, mostly made from rubber, which is able to move charges and thus distort the electric field on a capacitive touchscreen exactly like your finger does. A big drawback of this stylus versus an active one(on an active digitizer) is that a bluetooth stylus indeed has to have apps written for them and the palm rejection will only work when the pen touches the screen.

  • @BudgetBuildBarry
    @BudgetBuildBarry7 жыл бұрын

    1) Yes in Full Windows ( x86 ), No with mobile version as no pen will work in mobile as they (Microsoft), have not flipped the switch to allow ink in mobile yet. 2) Yes it will work fine with a 1520.......the No was directed to another question dealing with screen quality...the 1520 and 650 have better screen then the 640 XL and the Adonit will work better with the better screens. For fast handwritten notes there are apps like Notebook Pro V2.0 and Squid ( both free ) 3) The music is from the KZread royalty free section....I forget the name.

    I use onenote program on my surface lot and I would have loved if it would work with onenote program on windows phone. I just purchased the nokia 1520 with the hope that I can find a pen to work with onenote program. Apparently it will not work. Its very disappointing. Plus I can find a good music player free on the app store. Its extremely disappointing. Thas why Microsoft and Nokia phones are not selling and Nokia did go bankrupt. Ridiculous.

    Dear Barry, thanks for the review. Could you please confirm or deny whether active stylus touch is interpreted by Windows as a mouse click? I'm using a conventional adonit jot capacitive stylus with my dell xps 15 machine and it's virtually impossible to get away without switching back to using a trackpad to click certain UI elements of some apps or programs. Prime example would be google maps. You just can't take advantage of its entire functionality by touching your screen with your finger or a capacitive stylus. It just won't put a marker unless you click it with a mouse. I've found some information that active bluetooth stylus touches are interpreted similar to mouse clicks. Is that true from your experience? Thanks

  • @BudgetBuildBarry
    @BudgetBuildBarry7 жыл бұрын

    As of right now it is like a finger touch ( more exact touch due to fine tip), as Adonit has yet to come out and play with the other children ( Android and Windows). Windows is now adding Bluetooth Gatt support, but Adonit has to also come forth with drivers and an SDK for both Droid and Windows 10. Stay tuned to see what happens down the line, things could take a huge leap forward.

    No there is a quality issue in screens. The better the screen the better the pen works. As on my Tablet the pen is flawless, however on the 640 ( a cheaper screen) even finger touches will be missed.
