A Good Surprise for some old Hardware!! A 7" Field Monitor /Old Tablet. Clean HDMI and USB 2.0😏

A Surprise indeed it was to find out Micro USB supports OTG Gear. HDMI Capture Card to USB works with a Lenovo Tab 7 running Android 7 with USB Webcam app (Android). Give your old hardware new life, dig out some old gear and recycle it to a new purpose. #HDMICapture #CleanHDMI #FeildMonitor #Photography #Videography #MicroUSB #USB2.0 #OldAndroid #CameraGear

omfg, watching you try to plug connectors and cables is like watching a baby trying to find its own mouth with a spoon... jesus man that was kinda frustrating lol

No matter what way I hold a USB, it is always the wrong way round :)

I picked up one of those USB capture devices, the main problem I found was no stereo audio. However I never thought of using them to give me a HDMI monitor, increasingly needed these days with Raspberry pi's and other 'trinkets'

Yes the audio can be a deal breaker if you require sound, however to tinker with other devices can be the fun part for such little money!!! Many thanks for your time and input !!!!!

*EDIT* After some playing around and testing with footage, the HDMI Device does indeed capture Stereo audio. If the source of the HDMI signal (in my case a Sony HDR-CX220), has Stereo output the Capture device will use it. At least my model does, and as there are as many sellers of these China made devices as there are flavors of soda, research should help in most cases.

Had to chuckle about plugging in the USB at the 2:00 minute mark. It looked like the old USB connection fails... Try once (wrong direction), flip the plug once (still wrong direction), flip it back and it plugs right in. Happens all the time with USB plugs. :) Upon a closer review of the video, it was just the angle of the plug on the first attempt.

You are 100% right, add the fact I have old eyes in the mix, I am always the wrong way round with USB :)

Very interesting find! I've got all manner of old gadgets lying around that I love finding new uses for. I also think it's interesting that your Lenovo tablet appears to be a lot snappier than my identical Lenovo tablet. And an interesting accidental find on MY part: having previous to this, watched another video on 2X speed, I forgot to change back to normal speed, and at 2X you sound virtually identical to Art Bell on the old Coast to Coast. 🤣🤣🤣 I enjoyed the video!

It's good to tinker with the old toys, I had even checked 2 old larger size Windows Phones with the Camera app ( as PC Camera app can ). The Lenovo Tab will bog down if you leave apps unclosed in background, poor old thing has only 1 Gig RAM total. So recording to SD Via app is a no go. I miss The old Art Bell show, it always was an interesting listen for the Night shift crew I was part of. Thank you for having a look and a wonderful message !!

I don't see why it would not work, my issue in that case would be Burnout of the HDMI Capture Device. They are not designed for continued use hour after hour. Streamers have reported burnout in as little as 6 months, but at $12 it is a cheep solution. I do however know there are already Software/App solutions to adding a phone/Tablet as extended Monitor via USB. I also know you can add a USB 3.0 Hub to a PC that can support 2 extra screens ( 1 port DVI and an HDMI). On my Wavlink USB 3.0 Hub I have a VGA screen hooked to the DVI output via a DVI to VGA adapter and a10 " touch screen on the HDMI output. My Graphics card handles the other 2 screens (DVI and HDMI). So after all that I hope maybe you can find a solution or a fix to fit your needs!!

Added a quick video answer, also showing the device in use with a tablet running Android 11.
