Retired ICU nurse here new to Hospice. I appreciate your channel and bought your book to help document. This has made a world of difference to me! Thank you so much for significant substantial health to new hospice nurses. I cannot thank you enough.
When my friend was dying of cancer, they sent a truly terrible nurse who never should have been allowed to practice without direct supervision. He would vamp all the time because he was in over his head and would not admit when he didn't know something. There was a meeting once about Annie's respiratory care and the guy told her something completely off the wall. The other nurse with him was shocked, immediately intervened, gave the correct information, and MUST have spoken to him after leaving and/or reported him. Annie called hospice to request another nurse. However, the director got angry and told her they didn't switch nurses. We just didn't call him anymore for appointments if she didn't need anything specific. I felt very badly because, being a nurse myself, I had encouraged her to try hospice. What a terrible experience it was.
I’m so sorry for your loss, and that you had a bad experience with the hospice nurse, and the hospice agency. Most hospice nurses are amazing, but like any profession some are not. I know it’s too late to help your friend now, and for that I’m truly sad, but so you know - you can switch to a different hospice anytime. There is a website called Hospice Compare that will list the hospices in your area and help you to find one that meets your needs. ❤️
