I'm Ryan, an outdoorsman, maker and artist living in Newfoundland 🍁
I'm fascinated by nature, design, and creativity. I love to explore environments, concepts, and skillsets. Making videos to share with you here at the Base is a passion project. Don't take things too seriously here. Enjoy yourself 🙇
Tune in for episodic adventures in the great outdoors, gear reviews, design / maker projects, and an appropriate level of self-aware silliness.
It's time to make tracks.

Nice Adventure although I was about to freak out with all them BFs! Can't wait to see what you two are cooking up for the next installment. Keep up the great work guys! Awesome content.VZ
The thought of bailing out crossed our minds for a minute! Thanks much. Hope you're doing well 🍻
You are such a great videographer breh. Love the videos. Keep rocking!
Thanks, Eric!! ✌️
7:14 "oh its so good" your really selling the comfort and peace of camping in this one by's.
IYKYK!
What a beautiful adventure! Well established camp site and the fire pit is amazing. Love the new kayak. Patch kit will have to become part of your regular gear. Flies are nuts! Thanks for bringing us along. Loved it.
mo gear; mo problems; mo solutions!
If there are no problems, it's not as fun! I can't believe you just scooped up a fish like that! Glad the harbor master didn't give you much trouble. 😆
"If there are no problems, it's not as fun!" Ain't that the truth 🍻
The new kayak looks much more efficient than the pack rafts, especially if there is a bit of a breeze, looking forward to seeing more adventures with it. Those flies.....Jeez!
It's appropriately silly and adequately capable 👌
kzread.info/dash/bejne/i5pnuceEc6rfnJc.htmlsi=5Ds_aT3FgezsoBpX&t=671 Classic case of bellows envy.
Fantastic video ❤ No no no all those flies I’d have been padding back 😂 Love how you caught a fish in kettle when your brother didn’t 😂😂 Take care keep safe and please keep sharing your videos ❤ From the similar latitude in the uk
Those little fish ("pricklies") hang about the shoreline just waiting to be scooped up 🙂↔️
Bug repellant is for the weak!
Great Video! I have the same tent but was wondering if the volt/yellow mesh get too bright when the sun comes out when inside?
When open to the sun, the yellow mesh is pleasantly bright -- for me at least. It livens up an overcast or rainy day too. YMMV of course ✌️
So they made an Eureka tent😂
That was a very damp and dismal grotto, great to see another video from you though.👍
I may go back later in the summer when it's dryer, with some more appropriate equipment. The mine piqued my curiosity!
@@radarbase Look forward to watching that. 😄
The look on Scouts face when you asked her if you should go back out was priceless! Cool little adventure!
She's a softie but will follow me anywhere 😊
Oh my. Gave me thoughts of being trapped in there or having to work there. How great it was to come back into the light! Scout was so cute with the drone and waiting for you in the cave.
It was a rough track down to the mine, too. Must have been brutal work!
This was a fun side quest on an otherwise failed adventure involving documentary footage and UFO sightings 🛸 I might go back for another attempt at filming that 🎥 What do you think?
Ohh do go look for UFO 💕💕
Amazing video as always Loved watching scout run after your drone 😂
When I turn the drone on it chimes, and she comes running for a chance to catch it 😄
Short and sweet. Great review. Thanks for sharing!
Cheers bud! Appreciated ✌️
Greetings from Saskatchewan. What a peaceful enjoyable video. I subscribed immediately.
Awesome 😊 Happy to hear it, Sarah! Lots more in the pipeline for this year too
Neat. Do like my aeropress and hand grinder for fresh coffee but this makes sense when traveling light. 👍
Spot on 👌 How's your spring been, Mark? It's weeks of straight RDF around here, this time of year 🌫️🌧️
@@radarbase Same, been miserable and wet, but the sun is starting to make a guest appearance and things are beginning to dry out a bit😄
that music though
🎵it's lunch I wanna have coffee
legendary
yes b'y
Love this! 🔥
Heyyy GSI! Keep making good stuff ❤
@@radarbase Will do! Something tells me you might be interested in our new glacier stainlesss personal javapress 👀it's a boiler and a javapress all in one!
🎵 all night I wanna drink coffee
remix single when!?
A catchy tune always makes reviews not so boring! 😁 Now I want some coffee!
🎵Take a break; I'm gonna have coffee!
Will have a look into this for my hubby as. He only drinks coffee I’m an earl grey drinker I hope the do ship to the uk 🇬🇧 Hope your spring is in full bloom Happy St George’s day Keep safe and smiling
An earl grey or russian caravan in the evening is magnificent!
This is far from being bomb proof…..North Face themselves would laugh at that notion! Now if you were talking about a NF VE-25 your comment would apply…..
I like the One Tigris "Evil Eyes" Titanium Wood Stove you used, went to their site and they have a lot of cool products. And that stove is only $19. I am also planning to buy the AMOK hammock, how I ended up on your video. I already hammock camp and looking for an upgrade. The "seat" function is what really sells me on it.
Awesome! I hope you enjoy the AMOK hammock - it's a primo piece of kit. No complaints about the wood stove, either. It gets the job done. Come back and let me know how it works out for ya, eh?
@@radarbase Will do. Should be getting both within a month and will do a test hike here in Michigan. Think I might also get some poles for staking out the ends of the tarp, with that rocking, looks like the head/foot might touch the tarp. Poles would also allow me to stake them tighter in, decreasing the trip hazard. Thanks for the video!
Is this one of your original songs? Really like it!
yeah, boi!!
Been using a stormbreak 2 for a couple years now, summer and winter. You’re not kidding about “bombproof”. I set it up in a field once with these chopped woody stalks pointing out of the ground (I couldn’t clear them out in time and had to just set up camp). I thought for sure it would tear up the bottom. When I got home after the trip I set the tent up in my back yard and hosed down the bottom expecting the inside to be soaked, but nope, not a single leak. Couldn’t believe I hadn’t ruined it. Love this tent.
Love to hear it. I've set mine up in some pretty precarious positions too -- it really is a durable tent. Thanks for sharing!
What is the name of the campsite in the last part of the video? Also, where is it?
It's called "Patch Brook Campsite", on the East Coast Trail's "White Horse Path" A full video of that trail segment is on the channel 😉
@@radarbase ok thanks also can you send me a list of stuff you prefer and what I should pack for a 6 mile trip because I am going on my first backpacking trip. Thanks!
@@fletcherbenson6428 Six miles is a good start! What to pack depends on the conditions where you're going and your budget, so I won't recommend anything specific. At a minimum, make sure you're covered for shelter, water, food, light, and fire starting (where legal). The distance is reasonable, so it would be wise to over-pack and develop your sense for what you need and what you don't. Most importantly -- GOOD LUCK & HAVE FUN! Let me know how it goes 😄
@@radarbase ok thanks I got this tent so I hope it is good. I am camping in Mataguay in San Diego for Boy Scouts, so hopefully it is fun. Thanks again!
To many places to list here(I have a notebook full)! Numerous obscure places I want to explore on every continent . 🌍🌎🌏
So relatable! Would you go see natural wonders, or evidence of past hoomans?
@@radarbase Both!
Being from the uk travel is part of the European culture so already done a lot of the Caribbean Central America and most of Europe but with the volcanic activity in Iceland that’s my next wish ❤ Good to see you have time with your dad ❤ Take care
Iceland is an exciting choice! It sounds quite nice to have so many distinct cultures and countries nearby.
I wanna go to Philly for a day to do a little Rocky run / get a cheesesteak. Cool to see ya get a little western adventure!
Mmm Philly cheesesteak... 🤤
What's your bucket list destination? I ticked a lot of mine with this trip!
What brand is the backpack frame?
It's a discontinued Cabela's frame with some heavy modifications -- I've been meaning to make a video about it. Is there anything specific you're keen to know?
Love you could visualise how you wanted it to be outstanding ❤❤
Visualisation makes it happen 🎯
Cool workshop! Neat DIY video!
Cheers Eric 🍻 You coming out for a hike this year or what?
Would love to! Though I need a legit job first to save up! @@radarbase
Sick shots, cool setup, great video!
Cheers mate 🍻 Keep up the pk! Water is God 😄
@@radarbase wooow, your an og! Thanks as well, i will😁
Nice project.
Thank you 🥰
Awesome job! "Cinematic effect" 🤣👍
Hahaha 😉
Fancy securing system! I, on the other hand, have been covering my gear in a tarp, and tying it down with bank line. It mostly works, but has a tendency to come a bit unwrapped, and flap about in the wind.
We all come a bit unwrapped and flap about in the wind sometimes
This was a fun and functional project. If you have any "wishlist" design ideas for outdoor gear or equipment features, drop a comment and let me know!
fantastic. It looks so cold.
Hey June! It was colder than a witch's mitt out there ❄
Cool spot!
Indeed it is, Eric. Hope yer doing well, bud!
Well done boys! Interesting way to tackle the route with those sledges but I guess it's quite normal over there. Geyser with the rainbow looks just perfect😁 It's great for me to look around the island through your channel.
Cheers, Jonas! Newfoundland is well worth a visit if you ever have the opportunity. I'm happy to be able to share it here on the channel.
Lol, nothing like that panic feeling when you realize a camera is missing! Glad you found it! Cool ocean geyser! A fun adventure as always, makes me want to go camping so bad!
Thanks, Jim 😄 I'd be keen to see how you approach camping!
I can't find anyone to go with me, at least where I want to go! And I won't go alone, to many strange happenings in the mountains of Appalachia!😨 Lately, rangers have told people I know, not to go certain places unarmed! I'll figure something out though!🤔@@radarbase
Oh my, yeah that's a whole different vibe from camping around here. Our main danger is the weather! You seem resourceful though 😄 I'm sure you'll find a way @@odysseyeduardo
Stunning scenery as always and very entertaining. Those sleds look like they have a mind of their own.
Yessir. Adam's sled tracks straighter, but the snow was frozen solid which made things a little unpredictible for both of us. My snowshoes ended up being more useful as ice cleats than flotation devices!
Wow that looked like a tough one for sure! I live in Sparks, NV in the high desert between the high Sierra mountains 3000-4000 meters and the high (cold) desert at about 1400 meters. Great camping in all different environs, but not as far north as you guys. Keep the videos coming and hope you get the better of your medical situation. Sincerely, VZ
VZ from NV! Sounds like an awesome place -- maybe one day I'll find myself in the desert too. Thank you very much, my friend 🤝
Rainbow generator indeed! Mother nature exercising her artistic side. Recognise your struggles in this one. Thank you for sharing. You guys crack me up.
Thank you. Every season has its own palette, eh?
Amazing video looks like you had great fun ❤ I’m Mary-Jane I’m from Hampshire in the uk so very similar latitude but with vastly different weather I overlook the Solent so our winters are extremely windy 80-100 km winds and very very wet 😂😂 but we get maybe 2-4 days a winter where we get into the negative I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching the content of your videos gain depth and style ❤❤ Take care and keep making tracks
Thank you for the kind and thoughtful comment, Mary-Jane. I really appreciate your support 💗 Those are some extreme winds 🌧️ Has March come in like a lion or a lamb?
