Welcome to my channel! I am a second-year French and Spanish student at the University of Oxford studying at Worcester College. My weekly videos (uploaded usually on Fridays) consist of vlogs, general information on Oxford University based on my experiences as a modern languages student, and occasionally slightly crazier episodes with my flatmates: the Cottage Gang. I row for my college, have recaps of how we do in races and as a keen cyclist and runner, you will also see me out and about looking red in the face! I hope you enjoy the videos and please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions for me.

Hi, could you show/post a copy of your year 1 or 2 timetable at oxford so i can get an idea of a typical week pls? Tysm :)
Hi Arthur, I was wondering what A-levels you did and what kind of predicted grades would be expected for a competitive application?
Hi, I did French, Spanish, and Physics. A competitive application simply needs predicted grades at or above the requirements stipulated on the university pages...
@@arthurbown-mazzoni ok that's a relief to hear, thank you so much! I love your videos btw
how have you found the accent? im going into 2nd year at cambridge doing spanish and italian and argentina seems really cool but i have a distinctly peninsular accent and also don't know any argentine colloquial language/ the accent
Hi, if you watch some of my previous vlogs from my time in Argentina, you'll get an idea of how challenging I found it to get used to the accent and certain expressions. At the end of the day, though, it's still the same base language so you can absolutely manage
Those falls are stunning. Better than Niagara and they are amazing.
When are they making this youtube channel the 8th?? I've sent in too many applications to the committee to count
Awsome content!!!
Dear Mr Bazzoni, Thank you for documenting and explaining your College years through the evidence of KZread and showing your real practical side as a Student. I believe that you should confidently practice doing the things that you find exceptionally thoughtful and worthy of performing to enable you to understand the beneficial motives of living ( which is a Gift! ) Take good care of yourself and others. Maintain a livelyhood and forget the paralysing elements of fear and ignorance! Signed by; N.I. It is better to be patient and hardworking than fast and impatient. With toil comes a reward! Certainly at the "University Of Oxford".
Could you go through your typical process, meaning, you get the essay title and reading list. Then what happens? How do you decide what to read and what to leave out?
Hi, I have answered this question in the video that’s coming out this Sunday as I felt it was worth a proper discussion…
You have beautiful eyebrows 💗
All Souls : Am I joke to you? 💀
Arthur, Continue to enjoy your videos. You are so busy but hope you have a bit of time to watch the highlights of the Giro. Watched stage 3 today - G. Thomas in 2nd but a long way to go. Best wishes, Jim Scalise
Arthur! Haha, though Argentinia Vlogs are not something I was expecting when I subscribed (I came in for the Worcester room tour), I am enjoying it! Have fun in South America :)
Glad you're enjoying the videos! I'll be back at Worcester (too) soon enough!
No breakfast in the Covered Market? We always went there. Loved the tradition.
Not for us! But maybe in final year...
The bus drivers just want to drive together, more friendly, more fun… Or is there a bicycle rental somewhere? Maybe too hot to ride a bike to work…
The roads seem slightly scary for riding a bike in the middle of the city - perhaps the countryside is better
I might be able to get into Oxford 2025 based on what I’ve seen and how much preparation I’ve already done. Im Someone who plans for everything. Since 8th grade I’m been doing things that would be put on my college application. Most are outside of school since my mom was able to make a few connections with her (at the time) new job. I’m already in college but transferring is definitely something I’m up for. Ive narrowed it down to Christ church from preference of many things but I’m quite worried because the the number of applications and ow many get accepted.
I think it's best not to worry about acceptance rates as there's always a chance that you get in if you apply, but no chance if you don't
@@arthurbown-mazzoni I’m going to go for it. There is always other schools if I don’t get in. 😊

The stones you saw in Plaza de Mayo were put there to represent the people that died from Covid, so to remember them and also protest against the government for the way they handled the pandemic.
Ahhhh, my mistake! Thank you for that, I really appreciate it and serves me right for making assumptions!
Arthur, Enjoyed your video. Given the large numbers of Italians who immigrated to Argentina have you had the opportunity to use your Italian language skills? Also, being British have any Argentinians brought up the Falklands issue? Best wishes, Jim Scalise
Hi, in Buenos Aires I met a couple from Sardinia who were visiting and on the flight from Sao Paolo to Córdoba I also got chatting with an Italian who had previously lived in the city and was going back to see his mother. Some students have brought up the Falklands/Malvinas War but no one in public has asked me about it...
Some of the worst takes I’ve ever heard ❤️

Muchas gracias!
U following any particular diet?
No, I'm not
Sounds like you are loving the food there 😁
Absolutely! Dulce de leche and related desserts are fantastic!
Great video. Love learning about the culture. Do you think your spoken Spanish is improving? Best wishes. Jim
Thanks! I would say that it is gradually picking up and hopefully will continue to do so in the next few months
nice video! You should try 'dulce de leche'!! It's like caramel but it's not. Good luck and enjoy the sun!!
I have tried it and I love it!
Arthur, hiya! Thanks a lot for the video. I have a question about passing this exam and would be glad if you notice and answer. Is it possible to pass English and Russian if I am Russian? So, English is not native for me.
Unfortunately, you cannot study English as a foreign language at Oxford. Your English needs to be of a sufficient level to understand complex concepts in literature and language and if you want to study it as part of your degree, this level needs to be even more advanced. There are details on the university website here on how you can study Russian: www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/courses/modern-languages/modern-languages%3A-russian If that doesn't make sense or you have further questions, I'll do my best to help.
Do you mean the present perfect continuous in sentences such as " I have been working" or Present Perfect such as "I have been to the town." ?
I did mean the present perfect
@@arthurbown-mazzonidon´t know how it goes in Spanish, but I find it quite clunky for some reason in German.
@@neilfazackerley7758 It sounds perfectly okay in Spanish but I think the reason I'm overusing it is because it is the only verb tense used in oral French for that time frame whereas in Spanish you have the present perfect and, to an extent, the preterite
@@arthurbown-mazzoni I find it is sometimes easier not to overthink the grammar. When I started with German it was useful to do grammar. Now I am hitting C2 I am more interested in content and learning words. The odd grammar slip is not that important, provided what you say is easy to comprehend. If I learn another language I would do things differently. Hope you are enjoying yourself in Argentina.
Very interesting - you're so capable, not many people would be able to take it all in their stride like you're doing!
Very interesting first-week video, thanks a lot for that! Maybe there is a bicycle rental close-by? And maybe the students would enjoy and appreciate you asking them about the use of this specific tense in Argentina… the self-esteem needed to be able to do that, very admirable 😉 Did you like Animal Farm? Good luck and continuing joy in teaching!
Thank you! I have definitely been asking lots of questions about local colloquial terms and learning about grammar nuances a lot. I did enjoy Animal Farm and the metaphor works so vividly is impressive, to say the least...
@@arthurbown-mazzoniSorry, maybe the remark about asking about tenses sounded criticising which was not intended at all. Had thought specifically about the students… We had a teacher once in highschool who was very admired because he was asking the students too, thus engaging us on a so far unknown level 🙃Thanks a lot for your reply!
@@tenzinyangdroen1618Don’t worry, I didn’t take it as criticism!😊
When u gng back to ox?

Greetings from Córdoba! In my opinion, it's the best province in the country. Although not a 100%, it's pretty safe for the most part; just don't use your phone in the street. People are quite nice, and there are plenty of places to go. Also, if you enjoy nature, the south of the country (Patagonia) is truly beautiful. If you have some time off and the means to do it, I highly recommend it. Good luck!
That’s what everyone I’ve spoken to has said so thanks for the tip! I’m really looking forward to doing some travelling after my placement as well, hopefully heading south…
You DONT need a haircut…
I'm so glad to have found your channel! I'm in year 12 currently and want to apply to History and French at Oxford so I use your videos to manifest lowkey ✨✨
Good luck!
Maybe if you spent more time working on the essay and less time vlogging that could have helped?
Try studying a real subject like math or science.
What happened! You just moved in… (it's called 'time'). Thanks for your videos! Do you feel the French experience has enriched your studies (and life)? Probably in some way, just rather concerning your French studies… with an increased vocabulary concerning chocolate for sure. Did the experience make you rather turn away from a business career? Good luck with your future projects and plans! PS: Was the last scene in Oxford? You mentioned that you were already heading for work… (studies?) Cheers!
Thank you! I will definitely put a video out at some point giving an overview and recap of my time in France and how it helped or didn't... I generally found it very enriching but a few things made it less useful than expected. I think I still need to fully unpack the experience and what it makes me think about my career. The last scene was in Bath while I had a few days of working for the university.
Are things on track for you to move to Argentina?
I'll hopefully bring a video out soon with an update...
Amazing vlog !!
I love your channel but if you could do more while speaking it would not feel stagnated❤
Thanks for the feedback!
Hey Arthur, great video. I feel incredibly lucky that I get to go to France next week for a skiing holiday! (porte du soléil region) Got a question that I hope you would answer. How did you know you wanted to study languages at uni? I love A-level Spanish and English too but I just feel that if I study solely Spanish or Spanish or French my options for the future will be mainly focused to being a language teacher or interpreter or translater. So currently my goal is English at Oxford. I know there’s a more positive way to look at this, so I’d really appreciate if you would be able to help me with your opinion. Thanks 💚
Hi, I knew I wanted to study languages at uni because they were the only subjects I was interested in knowing more about - do what you enjoy most. I also did not think about my career path after uni because languages don't restrict you to teaching and translating - you can go into marketing, entertainment, law, finance, and the public service sector among other things if you want to. I want to be able to use my languages after uni but you don't have to and you learn enough about other things to not have to restrict yourself to stereotypical 'language jobs'. Employers often look for language skills in other areas including those I've just mentioned so don't worry about limiting your future prospects. I'm biased but I would definitely consider studying English and Spanish at uni for a bit of extra spice...
Amazing, thanks for your help Arthur, will definitely consider doing a joint honours in English and Spanish! Good luck with your future studies
You can go on a tourist visa you would just need to exit the country (ferry to Uruguay) around the three month mark!
Unfortunately, because I’m going to be undertaking paid employment, I need to get a full work visa otherwise the school wouldn’t be able to employ me
Sur le pont d'Avignon a BANGER? 😂 Very glad you got to see the bridge eventually.
The greatest composition of all time. There have been 6 versions since medieval times
Hi Arthur, I have been offered a place for French and Spanish at Catz for October! I'm very excited, however I was wondering how you manage your workload? Also, how do you cope with so much independent work when having exams only in 1st and 4th year? I'd be thankful for any insights you could give. Thank you!
Ooooh lots of questions... Not to pass them off but you can probably get a good indication of how I dealt/deal with workload by watching lots of my videos. However, I think it's important to remember that you have to find your own way of managing the workload as everyone is different and it may take you more than a year to do that. Oxford is not like other universities and every piece of work you have to complete is usually carefully monitored and you cannot get away with not working. So, while the work is independent, your tutor will help to make sure that you are completing everything you're set to pass your exams in 1st and 4th year. I hope that makes sense and congratulations on the offer!
Thank you so much for replying - I'll definitely check out your other videos on this subject, and your year abroad videos are super helpful too! Thanks again :)
Thank you ♥ So happy I stumbled upon your channel!
Thank you! I hope you find use in some of the other videos!
I really wish I would have seen a video like this BEFORE my graduate program. These are some great tips. I really like your idea of notes on scrap paper because just flagging the page doesn’t give me all the context I need. I’ll be trying your method the next time I dig into a classic. Thanks for sharing this information.
I’m glad you found it useful!

I would love to hear about how you coped with the period between Oxford interviews and admissions results. I am currently waiting to hear back and it is killing me! Loved the video.
If I’m completely honest, I cannot remember. I actually found out during the first lockdown during an online lesson so it was very odd and I had a lot of different things on my mind. My advice is to keep busy and keep working… that may not be too helpful but good luck all the same
Arthur, good to hear from you. Sorry to hear about the crash - been there, done that. An academic question- which A levels did you do in your 12th and 13th year in secondary school? Good luck with the Argentina internship. Best wishes. Jim Scalise
I studied French, Spanish, Physics and Maths but only to AS level. Thanks for the well wishes!
