I have a G9, GX8 and GX80. The 8 is my most used camera. Going on a cruise to Iceland in two weeks and torn between the G9 and GX8. Did a side by side comparison and to my eyes the raw files from the GX8 with the Pany 12-60mm were superior to the G9 with the Leica 12-60mm. This really surprised me colour and tone were better handled but sharpness from the Leica lens was better.

Have the PL 12-60mm I've taken some of my favourite street shots with that lens. If I ever upgraded it would be the Oly 12-100 F4...very pricey though. Btw the video looked really nice I've always liked the looked of the 25mm F1.7

Hi Eli, this lens lives on my original E-M5 and they make a great pairing. The f2.8 version is a cracker of a lens but I always reach for the more compact option. Thanks for posting.

Eli thank you for this review. I own the PL 12-60mm lens and like using it. I purchased the P12-60mm kit lens with the GX9. I was going to sell this lens to lower the price for the GX9. Turns out I learned to like this leans. I have kept it and take it out all the time. Can’t beat the focal lengths this lens offers. Small and light. As you say, it is very versatile. It has the OIS which can be converted to dual stabilization on LUMIX bodies. A lot to be said for that. It is sharp enough. Not fast but more than adequate for my street photography needs. I didn’t want this lens. I have learned to like and then love this lens. If you are a M43 shooter, especially a LUMIX user, this is a must have lens. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

I've never had the opportunity to use it. I have always had second-hand cameras and they have never come with them. But it sounds like a good option. Unfortunately I haven't seen it at a good price.

They're just not "focused" on this. Where is the ad with an OM-5 and 3 lenses on a scale, sitting next to to a Fuji with the equivalent 3 lenses, sitting on a scale? Many people don't care what they stuff weighs, but if that's the case, why use a small sensor camera?

Nice! Good to talk about this lens: people dump on kit lenses but this one and the 12-50 f/3.5-6.3 which I had are so usable. Re the alternatives you mention, I regularly use the 12-60 f/2.8-4 Pana Leica for work and it is great: clear sharp images and robust. Not super cheap alas.

Lumix Leica 25mm f1.4 is good for ultra shallow DOF and it has a short minimum focus distance - eyes only in focus, tbh even the Oly 12-40mm f2.8 @40mm f2.8 close up is ultra shallow less i.e. only pupils in focus, nose and ears out of focus. mFT is different system, you can't drive a mid-engine rear wheel drive car like front engined front wheel drive. You alter your approach for each config for shall DOF on MFT you get close...

12-60 kit is still one of the best lenses in the system. Add a 1.4/1.7 leika prime for low light and maybe a 45-150 cheapo pocket telephoto and u are done.

A small, lightweight, photography centered body should be the next M43 body LUMIX releases. After all, the last two bodies lumix released have been video centric. Dual memory cards? No body this size has dual card slots. I’d be shocked if LUMIX gives us dual card slots. That is OK with me. I’m hoping for an updated GX8. Maybe in the S9 body. PDAF would be expected. I don't Care if we get the 20 or 25MP sensor. Yes to the mic jac! Why did LUMIX exclude that on the GX85/9. Of course we should get IBIS. Yes also for the EVF. We can loose the articulation for the EVF. Oh by the way, please make the body check in at less than $900. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

The 45-150 is excellent optically(for the price) much more than the 100-300, even the MKii, which I also own. The 100-300 is fine but from 270 ish mm is very soft compared to the rest of the focal lens.

Yes! I like the G100 body and would have gotten it, despite its shortcomings, if the viewfinder optics weren't so poor. My priorities would be S5 level color, small body, ibis please, viewfinder with crystal clear optics, mic and headphone jack, pdaf, g7 or better video specs. I'd take that ZF small plus big card slot situation or better yet, integrated backup if a second card wasn't possible.

Why release a small m43 when we've already got sony a7cii and a7cr? There are small nice primes on the sony mount also.(zooms not so much) If Oly/OMD/Pana were to release a nice small m43 body, it should have been 6 years ago. The ship has now sailed. Is it shit ? Yes. Would I want a new PEN F? Definitely! Would I buy it for the price of om1.3 (because that's how much it would cost I bet) ? Nach, not worth it.

I would love to see a new G100 with the g9II sensor. It's small, okey EVF and i could use the lenses i already have for Dual IS. Perfect for doing work with 2 cameras and have exactly the same Image quality and colour rendering. Will be easy to have as a B-roll kamera and everyday camera also if they have the same internal recording specs.

Great video, bro! I would be perfectly happy if olympus could take what’s in the OM five and put it into a pen f, weather sealed of course, and USB-C of course. If Panasonic could put most of what’s in the G9 mark two into the S9 body, that would be great too. basically both micro for third companies have a prototype for what to go with. They just need to get it done.

The new Panasonic GH7 MTF camera is a bit larger and heavier than the full frame Panasonic S5II ! So, yes MTF cameras have to be much more compact, but I guess that both OM Systems and Panasonic do not have money enough to make new compact system MTF cameras. Maybe the GH7 will be the last MFT camera from Panasonic. Not many new MTF Panasonic Lenses and the newest are on sale, so I guess that the MTF customers are moving away from MTF to larger formats.

I cant se why it shouldn't be able to make a really small one with no ibis and no evf but really really small so its pocket able. Then the rangefinder style and there go all out, ibis, weather sealing and the tilt able evf. So bring back the GM and the GX.

There are not enough buyers of small bodied MFTs cameras for any major BRAND to make Newer Products. Otherwise it would have already happened. So we and reality hardly comes together to make much of a difference.

I left micro 4/3rds after my GX85 was stolen. There were no updated compact models, and Panasonic seems to have mostly abandoned the system for larger cameras. I sold off my lenses and got a refurbished Nikon Z7 and 40mm lens and a Google Pixel 8 Pro. The Z7 is of course larger, but the image quality and handling is great and I can still travel with some smaller lenses in the same bag I carried my m43 gear in.
