There is a difference between not liking fighting and training to always be ready incase you have to protect the ones you love. Gohan just straight up doesn't care at all that he might be needed to protect others and won't be able too if he doesn't train. He has a duty, an obligation to his family, as someone who is incredibly strong, to train and keep in shape in order to step up if the need arises.

7:21 Forgive my blatant ignorance, but I’ve seen enough. 💀 Yeah, I don’t expect a 40 year old do the same silly garbage he was doing at age 12 before most of his formal education and experiences. Especially when, in the arc that follows, he’s the first to identify that Hero is Kami in disguise simply through observation, he owns up *every time* he makes a grey moral decision in regards to Vegeta, Frieza, and Cell, and particularly in the Saiyan Saga, the only time he’s making light of a bad situation is when he’s barely a month into a jokester god’s training regime, *and* when he’s telling Gohan they should go fishing when the fight is over. Clearly, he *did* give off the air of stoicism, especially in the earlier parts of Z. It doesn’t hurt my heart that he still struggles with mercy and seeing peoples’ intentions. As far as mercy goes in Dragon Ball, Goku’s decisions have heavy, lasting impacts, and I see his mercy as a lesson learned from Android 8 telling him to stop fighting General White. But do you see Goku patting anyone’s crotch in Z? Ginyu’s? East Kai’s? No. Because he’s obviously matured since then. That talking point means next to nothing. Let’s not forget, as well, that in original DB, Man-Wolf is a 30th dan black belt in kenpo. That’s 20 ranks above the highest possible rank in real life kenpo. Roshi outclassed him *easily,* and Goku is *still* attributed more martial prowess than him. Only to relapse in Super, *after* having plots and character arcs related directly to technique and control? Someone that experienced and gifted, who puts them into practice *every day,* has very little excuse to forget these concepts. Fighting is his passion. Why would he regress here at *all* if he’s *ever* known better? He has far less reason to do so than he *ever* had in previous installments of the series, even GT. I’m not gonna argue that Goku’s character is a bastion of perfection in Z, and I think anyone that does is as backwards as some of this video’s claims. But in almost *every* instance where you can pick apart and criticize Goku’s character, Super somehow makes it more obvious, doesn’t try to resolve them, and has no excuse not to.

Lol you are completely wrong about the Superego (Über-Ich). As Freud intended it, it's an idealized, morally superior and self-critical representation of the self. It's not who really he is, but what he wishes to be.

People underestimate how much of your time in a day that being a biologist, or many other professions tbh, takes from you. You have to make sacrifices. Gohan clearly chooses his academic career and it’s fine. Even Gohan often has to neglect family time for his research projects, and people expect him to still have time to train? The only ones who are still training regularly are Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo and they’re pretty much jobless.

I always felt like Goku showed a type of wisdom that we shouldn't overlook. He's not book smart, but through his pure and good-hearted nature, he understands things that a lot of other characters or villains seem to miss. A wisdom of age. He lectures his villains and, in those moments, teaches the audience what it means to be a man with power and mercy. I don't think Super has those moments, and I'd argue it feels like much of modern media doesn't teach us hard lessons anymore. There are no lines in Super that hit harder than this, "You know, I've never understood how people can delight in hurting others. You see, you live in fear because you know someday your life will be taken as well. We all have to reap what we sow." Goku in Super seems more like his younger self, innocent without wisdom. It wouldn't be so jarring if DBZ didn't exist and we just went from the OG dragon ball straight to Super.

The fact that this is even a conversation has always baffled me. If the majority of dragon ball fans were female instead of male it literally wouldn’t be an issue. Fighting is not his passion. It doesn’t have to be. He grew up with trauma after trauma after trauma. He finally makes a peaceful life for himself with his wife and kid and works in a job that utilizes his intelligence and allows him to support his family while pursuing his ACTUAL passions. That’s basically everyone’s dream. Ppl are just mad bc his passion is frickin bugs and science instead of beating the shit out of people. I never understood why his pacifism makes him a ‘wasted’ character. Ofc he’d want a peaceful life. That’s the whole point. Seriously What do you think they’re fighting for in the first place? The fundamental misunderstanding of Gohan also implies a misunderstanding of Goku. Yes Goku loves fighting and getting stronger. But most of the growth that Goku goes through doesn’t just come from just the desire to get stronger. It comes from a NEED to PROTECT the people and planet he loves. I mean come on that’s like- one of the most iconic dragon ball quotes of all time. Most of goku’s big transformations happen DURING battle bc he HAS to push himself further. And as a father, he recreated those situations the best he could in the safety of the HTC for Gohan so he could be come a super saiyan, but even he learned during the cell saga that traumatizing Gohan to get him to be stronger isn’t the answer. At the end of the day their strength truly comes from a need, and that need is a constant source of pain for Gohan. Goku realized that he didn’t want to put his son through that. The fanbase did not. They forget that Goku’s most admirable traits aren’t strength and power, but compassion and resolve. Gohan, as a pacifist, shares these traits and lives by that advice. The difference is that As he grows he doesn’t really have the desire to just- be physically strong. So He doesn’t push himself unless he NEEDS to. Therefore, Getting stronger to him is directly associated with everyone else being in danger, and him not being enough to save them as he is. At the end of the day he truly fights for peace, and the only reason he’d continue to train would be out of paranoia, not a love for combat.

Thinking about this for a while, the only way I see Zamasu succeeding in any Godly position is if he was allowed to intervene more heavily and reshape all life in his universe to better align with his views. Initially I was going to write this off as one of a few ways he'd fail, but Universe 2 managed to do fairly well with a similar system. On the other hand, could that be why its mortal level was so low? Well, I'm not going to dive into that when there's no guarantee the authors themselves developed each one that far.

I never viewed Zamasu like that and yes, if we look at today's society, Zamasu IS absolutely right. The only thing, Zamasu would have to learn, is, that NOT ALL mortals are evildoers, in fact, some have really good hearts. It could have been Zamasu's job to protect those people with good hearts and pure intent.

Zamasu was a self righteous, arrogant little fool who had to steal a body that didn't belong to him to achieve his goals. And of course, movie Thanos isn't true Thanos. There was no noble goal in the comics; he simple wanted to get the attention of a woman, in this case Death.

8:03 Raditz came to earth for him, and then vegeta and nappa came to earth for the dragon balls, which they learned about through Raditz. i guess you can say freeza wasn't anything to do with him, but he's still the reason mecha freeza came to earth, threatening his friends again. and the androids were made by gero in order to kill goku. any time a threat came to, or appeared on earth was becauise of him in z, until Buu.

  • @user-ou5ls2xc7v

Even then, Buu is a threat because of Gohan’s awakening, which Goku indirectly caused. It was fair for him to assume he’d be an attraction to bigger and larger threats than Earth could handle.

might be an unpopular opinion but i dont remember asking for a lot of depth in a character in a show thats mainly about throwing hands. The whole gentle giant argument can be made but its frustrating to watch Gohan wither away. Is it too much to ask that one of the strongest characters in a show just want to love fighting? Gohan in his youth always stepped up when the time came. He trained by himself when Piccolo abandoned him against the incoming Saiyans. He begged his mom to let Goku take him training in the mountains when the Androids were coming. He volunteered to go in the time chamber to train with his father against Cell. The seven years of peace completely wiped away his sense of duty. Technically, Goku and Gohan both died in the battle against Cell because we never see this Gohan ever again.

Gohan is my favourite character. I know he's kind and doesn't like killing, like Goku. I think he just depends on his father to fight. I feel like he does enjoy fighting though. I think there are times when he mentions enjoying watching Goku fight and that it stirs his Saiyan enjoyment of fighting. Gohan beast when activated, Gohan Ultimate when fighting Buu, and certain points in the Cell saga show his enjoyment of fighting, I think.

There can be no grace without justice. A price must be paid. Why then would Zamazu not be willing to lie down his life for mortal kind, as a kind of covering for their sins? Jesus paid the fine for the sins of mortal kind to redeem them. Zamasu did not. Instead, he wanted all justice, but no grace. Jesus rose from the dead and won victory over the grave and the forces of hell, and satan. Zamazu died at the hands of his own creations, and remained that way. Puffed up in pride, he was slain by those far more prideful than he. Jesus is humble. Zamasu is not.

I think if he had no other choice if life depended on it. He will fight, He is not gonna stand there while his friends are slapped around if he is the only one standing in the way of evil from winning. That's how I see it, I think Gohan doing what he does is actually good because he can be our backup if things go south. Besides we already have plenty of fighters, So it makes sense too Gohan does not have to contribute to anything. That's just the way I see it, You can agree or disagree but that's how my brain thinks and process it. But that is just 1 aspect of it. I think if he was able to get over his trauma over time bit by bit maybe then, He wont have to much problems. But it will take time.

cool that you bring up thanos at the start because the god of destructions way of "balance" is very similar to another marvel antagonist, galactus. though hes the terror of the cosmos for devouring worlds (a forced compulsion he actively dislikes and wants to be rid of) and is often villainized for it, the cosmic order of marvel usually makes very clear that galactus' destruction is not just a part of the natural process, but even NECESSARY for it to function. calling galactus "evil" for what he does is like calling gravity evil when you fall down and injure yourself. thats also the difference between thanos and zamasu, for the record. zamasu is seen as psychotic because he carries out his genocidal plans with a malicious glee, and exalts himself as the supreme being, while thanos shows at least some reluctance that becomes a solemn determination to do what must be done.

Why didnt Zamasu just blowup the planet? Kai's can create planets and teleport, mortals can breathe in the kai realm. Just let Black charge a kamehameha and teleport him to *boom* the planet and then make a new planet once you're done, rinse and repeat and that's it.

Somewhere in there young Lapis was still there all along. He was changed to a degree no doubt power corrupts afterall, and he was a delinquent. There still a playfulness about him when he fights or causes chaos. He's down to scrap, but unlike Frieza or Cell he doesnt enjoy needlessly torturing people, he just wants to win. But somewhere inside there is a sadness that he wears a mask over, he doesn't want to be a villain. I think even in the Future timeline everything probably got sent into chaos by Gero as well who in his Android form in his own right, was capable of extreme destruction. Even good people can turn bad if its the end of the world, and 17 and 18 probably mentally broke in that timeline forcing them to adapt to a post apocalyptic world. We assume that was all the Androids fault but its also possible that Frieza and King Cold caused major chaos before they were killed as well.
