    My last relationship was with someone who had a disability, and I will freely admit that when I first met them, I was pretty ignorant of the barriers disabled people face to be able to play a full part in society. Sadly, that relationship did not last for other reasons but I am glad I had my eyes opened to just how difficult things can be for those with different abilities, and I hope that it gives me more understanding and the chance to make a difference myself where I can.

    Fascinating. Would that mean that being "apolitical" means that someone is little better than an enabler for the prevailing political current in whatever country they happen to live in? Take the current situation in the United States as an example - if a person defines themselves to be "apolitical" in a time when the Religious Right is on the rise, then that means they are part of the problem and will likely be one of the first to complain if the Christian Nationalists backing a certain candidate get power on a national scale and take actions that affect them. Where would being "apolitical" get anyone then?

    I'm autistic and I identified as Asperger because 1. It made me feel superior to autistic people with less intelligence 2. I was brought up by christofascists and became fascist myself until I was 16 (don't worry I'm figuring out communism/leftism now)

  • @RosethornRanger

    one bit of context I think that is important for this as well is that generalized intelligence doesn't exist. Ability is not some fluid we can throw from bucket to bucket on a whim, so "higher intelligence" just means abilities that line up more with societies morals on what abilities are "good to have".

I remember hating myself for not being able to make or commission illustrations because of my lack of ability. AI art really helped me express my ideas and thoughts in a way that I never could alone. So aspergers as a diagnosis was basically just an arbitrary designation of successfuly masked or "functional" autistic persons?

  • @RosethornRanger
    @RosethornRanger10 күн бұрын

    well, I was diagnosed in preschool, so it isn't even about whether you "successfully" can do that, because they can't know yet so it is more their prediction based on your interests, and how much pain you are willing and able to go through (a requirement for masking), and how submissive you are willing to be about it and such

    Hans Asperger was a fascist who worked with the nazis. [1] He outlined a diagnosis he called “autistic psychopath” [2] that applied almost entirely to boys of multi-generation scientist and artist families. [3] which they described as learning social processes intellectually instead of instinctively[4] To them a deficit that had to be outweighed by “intellectual” value to be worthy of life.[5] Fascists knew this to some extent, as good grades weren’t enough to prove our “intellectual value” [6] [1] (The entire point) www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5907291/ [2] (“Hans Asperger (1906-1980) first designated a group of children with distinct psychological characteristics as ‘autistic psychopaths’ “) link [1] [3] (“In many cases the ancestors of these children have been intellectuals for several generations and have been driven into the professions by their nature. Occasionally, we find among these children descendants of important artistic and scholarly families”) and (“It is fascinating to note that the autistic children we have seen are almost exclusively boys”) blogs.uoregon.edu/autismhistoryproject/archive/hans-asperger-autistic-psychopathy-in-childhood-1944/ [4] (“To put it bluntly, these individuals are intelligent automata. Social adaptation has to proceed via the intellect. In fact, they have to learn everything via the intellect….”) link 2 [5] (“The mentioned facts show us well enough that we often have to be very careful with the disdainful verdict of ‘inferior value’ and potential consequences that might follow from it. […] But if we care for these people-and be it with painful commitment and willing to make sacrifices-we will be able to take at least part of them to a point where they will not be a burden and danger to the national community, but its productive members” (a public statement), “ Even if the vast majority of Asperger’s patients did not suffer from the degree of mental disability that the program was designed to eradicate, a number of them were killed at Spiegelgrund”, and “We must also lead the way in the practical tasks of eugenics”) link [1] [6] (“Asperger called Johann a “semi-imbecile,” although he conceded that his achievements at school were not that bad “) link [1]

    We have an order of magnitude more empty houses than homeless people in the US. [1] As a world we produce 50% more food than we need, and yet people starve. [2] (I believe this ignores stuff like meat as well, if we change diets there is likely much more food available. Was having trouble finding info on this so) “homeless people are jailed for using empty houses” [3] “Workers are fired for eating leftovers” [4] [5] [1] unitedwaynca.org/blog/vacant-homes-vs-homelessness-by-city/ [2] www.fao.org/cfs/resources/detail/en/c/1609703/ [3] www.sfgate.com/news/article/9-squatters-arrested-at-school-site-s-f-group-2889005.php [4]www.theguardian.com/law/2024/feb/19/cleaner-sacked-for-eating-leftover-tuna-sandwich-takes-legal-action-against-city-law-firm [5]www.boredpanda.com/dunkin-employee-fired-leftovers-homeless/ www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/wiki/library/ I recommend bob blacks the abolition of work in the link above I also recommend looking into organizations like food not bombs for examples of mutual aid

    0:50 Is this actually a thing in some places in the US? Over here in Oregon I use a state issued id since I can't drive. It *is* a bit more expensive to replace for some odd reason though ($30 for a class c non-commercial license, $40 for an identification card replacement). The license is a bit more expensive at the start though at $64 instead of $47 for the id.

  • @RosethornRanger
    @RosethornRangerАй бұрын

    Other IDs exist but people are often turned away for using them. The person selling it can decide whether or not to accept an ID, and backend systems for many stores don't accept every form of ID Going to a store to get stuff with others and having an ID rejected often means alcohol won't be sold to any of them, so you might as well let them do it without you.

  • @Lady-V
    @Lady-VАй бұрын

    @@RosethornRanger Damn that sucks. I guess it's good that my id looks basically just like a driver's license except it has small letters that say "not a license to drive" on it. I've even had someone say "hey don't forget your license!" to me before leaving.

    but a common one is using gendered pronouns versus things like it/its. The account I am using is a thing, and using it/its instead of she/her represents that's what I want you to talk to. people do the same thing with corporate accounts on twitter all the time, for example. (obviously corporations and their mascot suck, but it is similar in some ways)

    I suspect equality as a framework will always be limited by the measurement problem you highlight here. This could also be a problem in general for economic calculation, which while possibly useful to consider will lead to injustice when they dominate our decisionmaking. Perhaps this suggests that we should be thinking about the economic as political, that often where people turn to calculation they should instead think of as deliberation?

  • @RosethornRanger
    @RosethornRanger4 ай бұрын

    the economic was always political, what people study for economics in school is specifically the neo-liberal school of economics, one of many. Hasn't even been the dominant one in the US for that long. I suggest taking a look at my other video "apolitical is might makes right for cowards"

    I agree. I also hate it when people say a certain media or art isn't political or wasn't political in the past. The purpose of art is to send a message. Being media illiterate doesn't mean the political messages of the piece don't exist. For example, comic fans being upset that comics are woke now when the X-Men was always meant as an analogy of the Civil Rights and Gay Rights movements of the time.

    I think personally, its because my mind works in patterns and uses those for short cuts, so what I may say sounds generic or Ai-generated, but that's because I'm also trying to explain myself the best way possible to other people, so I have to be 'generic' or 'straight forward' in order to get the normies on my level, and then they accuse me of being AI? Well fine, good luck figuring out my moon logic.

    So, degrowth. Degrowth is not just “eating less”, or selling your car. Degrowth is about the fact that overproduction is an inherent part of our system. Huge amounts of resources are wasted long before things get to your door, and what you consume will not change that. For something you may be familiar with, look at computers. Software bloat causes parts to become unusable long before they physically degrade. Here is a link on it I think is interesting: theanarchistlibrary.org/library/alexander-dunlap-recognizing-the-de-in-degrowth
