AI Art is About Accessibility

Now, I know a lot of people care a whole lot about this topic. Artists losing jobs over it and having their already small wages lowered even more is obviously not good. People who use AI to make art are artists too, and excluding disabled people from art to maintain wages is reactionary. You know what will help? Unions. You know what will hurt unions? Pushing out the people who need them most and thus fight for them the hardest. Good luck getting anything done with that cishet white abled guy.
Anyways, I am still messing with sound settings on these videos. Let me know if ya think the ess sounds are too hard on this one. Also whether you think I took out too much of the low end.

Thank you for making this! As somebody with less than perfect hand-eye coordination and motor issues making art is a abit of a no-go. I remember hating myself for not being able to make or commission illustrations because of my lack of ability. AI art really helped me express my ideas and thoughts in a way that I never could alone. I know it isn't pure art but its "good enough" for my purposes alot of the time.

As someone with poor vision, no depth perception, poor hand/eye coordination, and low spatial reasoning, AI art has been a great boon for expressing some creativity I could never hope to express otherwise. I've had a few art classes and learned the basics...enough to know that my skills would forever be beneath anyone who put in even a token effort. Good prompting is itself a bit of an art, but a more logical kind that is much more in my wheelhouse.

Preach! Art isn't only for the people born talented, regular ppl have dreams too and want to see their imaginations realized without years of tedious practice.

Exactly. It's so weird how critical people are of someone using A.I. art for entertainment. It's like thinking every video game should require you to play at an Esports level just to get past the first stage. Like it's out of the question for people to have a hobby without putting so much time into that hobby that they won't have time for any other hobbies. It's a repeat of the people who ridiculed Guitar Hero players for not playing a real instrument, meanwhile glossing over the fact that even some pro musicians play Guitar Hero because it's just fun. Sometimes, people don't do the harder thing because they're not trying to show off or make money. They're just trying to have fun. I also disagree with the idea that it's not artistic to make good A.I. art & doesn't require any talent. Good A.I. art is usually made by coming up with an extremely specific very long positive prompt & negative prompt just for the specific image you wanna see, figuring out exactly how to get the A.I. make something that's never existed before & then clicking the generate button until it turns out right. Plus the best images usually require not only all of that but a custom trained A.I. carefully fed a huge number of images tailored to teach the A.I. to make the kind of art they're trying to generate. I've seen talented artists make pictures of similar quality with far less effort per picture because although learning to draw in the first place was a long road, they've already learned it.

Art is a learnable craft though. People aren’t just born good at it, it’s a skill that they develop over time. There are so many forms and ways of using it but AI sure ain’t one of ‘em! And this is coming from someone who does think that the art industry and community can be elitist and awful in many ways. Not saying that you have to spend a shit ton of money or go to art school to be a real artist or anything. But there’s a difference between learning to create something and just typing in words and not doing a thing. Even as far as saying it’s an accessibility tool is a stretch- in fact it insinuates that people who are disabled are unable to create art themselves. It’s like saying that creating a program to play a video game on its own is assistive technology for those who cannot play a video game is assistive technology. At that point, they’re not doing anything. AI will never be real art. Even if you’re typing in a prompt, you’re not crafting anything and it voids the entire purpose of art entirely. There is no humanity to it and it’s built off of hundreds of thousands of pieces of art that’ve been stolen from **actual** artists. AI can be a resource for references for drawing, for sure. But it, itself, just is not art.

It is fair to call any artists who are against ai art gatekeepers. My parents were not rich enough to send me to art school or allow me to even take that risk. AI is about accessibility it doesnt allow people to be better than traditional artists without creativity just gives them access to skills thry didn't get the chance to foster.
