Apolitical is Might Makes Right for Cowards

Links and more info below.
This is a video on the topic of what it actually means to be "apolitical". This is from the point of view of an anarchist who is both autistic and trans, and so have been labeled as "political" my entire life without any input on my end. So with that in mind, "apolitical" is already only allowed to a small portion of the population, and only on the basis that you work to exist within that. That of course, requires you to maintain it.
and about the thumbnail, "friends" as a concept is a form of organization, it is politics.

Fascinating. Would that mean that being "apolitical" means that someone is little better than an enabler for the prevailing political current in whatever country they happen to live in? Take the current situation in the United States as an example - if a person defines themselves to be "apolitical" in a time when the Religious Right is on the rise, then that means they are part of the problem and will likely be one of the first to complain if the Christian Nationalists backing a certain candidate get power on a national scale and take actions that affect them. Where would being "apolitical" get anyone then?

So true. That's what I'm telling all of my new friends. Even if you're 'not interested in politics', politics shape the society you're a part of. Moreover, people with power benefit directly from one's complacency and ignorance. Btw, learned that I'm autistic pretty recently, as an adult. Still figuring out what to do with it.

im..new here so to speak, and i understand the argument, but i guess my question is what about people who are outside the situation, immigrants and such, who have, at that moment, not directly/ indirectly benefitted or lost due to the system?

many countries straight up bar me from immigration because I am autistic. New Zealand for example. On top of that it costs money. On top of all of that, capitalism doesn't stop at boarders. there are no people who are not impacted by the social systems we live in. Climate change is another example of that

I did think it was pretty fishy to call oneself Apolitical in the current climate more than ever right now. It just feels like ignorance the more and more aware I make myself of what’s going on.

I agree. I also hate it when people say a certain media or art isn't political or wasn't political in the past. The purpose of art is to send a message. Being media illiterate doesn't mean the political messages of the piece don't exist. For example, comic fans being upset that comics are woke now when the X-Men was always meant as an analogy of the Civil Rights and Gay Rights movements of the time.

People who complain about other people being "political" are really just saying "I have no negative opinion on anything that doesn't effect me specifically but if you dislike something that benefits me specifically (or negatively effects people I hate), I'll encourage people to boycott you & harass you while accusing *you* of cancel culture."

Saying something is "too political" and "forcing it onto others" immediately shows your hypocrisy. If you are mad at a person being political, then you need to understand centrism is a political view as well (although I doubt the people who make this argument are centrists, I am making the point for people who don't want to be labelled as a bigot even if they are) If your views on politics is that they shouldn't be overtly shown, then constantly calling people out when they don't follow this IS forcing your political views onto someone else. And that is just the hypocrisy if we assume this hypothetical person identifies as centre. Even more obvious if they are openly right leaning
