Maybe I'm biased but I feel like Pokemon peaked at Pokemon Emerald, I've played the originals besides green then silver, gold, and crystal and then sapphire and emerald I never had ruby. I also had fire red and leaf green and enjoyed those too. I always had pearl but got diamond from my neighbors much later on and I enjoyed those but I still felt like emerald is where it's at. I've been trying to slowly get into pokemon white but ehh it's a decent game so far but I personally don't know any of the pokemon passed diamond and pearl so it just doesn't give me the same feel as the original games did but I'm only at the 2nd gym leader and I've heard white and black are the best so maybe I will change my mind.

It is nearly a perfect game. The leveling curve of your pokemon in this game is the worst of the entire franchise though. Its a fun game until around pokemon level 35-40 and then the game is a snorefest.

Heartgold & Soulsilver are by far the most awesome Pokémon games of all times. Such an amazing gameplay and so rich in content. It still gets me every now and then thinking about the awesome time I had playing the game... ❤

7 year old me had no idea where to find Flash so I did indeed trial and error my way through rock tunnel while it was pitch black using the faint walls that existed in gen 1 as guides.

After 8 minutes all I heard was complaining about RBY and back handed compliments about GS. What I got out of those 8 minutes is that you HATE the Gameboy games. You expect them to be perfect from the get go. If it wasn’t for those games, there’d be no Pokémon. They’re not perfect, but deserve the respect. Besides, I didn’t see Pokémon fever when HGSS came out. It came out during the Gamboy Games.

I feel like the dexit issue wouldn't have been nearly as bad if sword and shield hadn't been awful games. If we had seen the same kind of upgrade in quality from Ultra Sun/Moon as there had been from Crystal to Ruby/Sapphire, the pill would have been much easier to swallow.

Not joking when I say this, and seriously pass it along to your kids. My biggest regret in life is actually letting peer pressure stop me from playing pokemon during gen 3 and I totally missed out on this masterpiece as it was happening, I did later enjoy all of Gen 4 as Platinum is responsible for me falling in love with pokemon again (a gen 2 remake couldn't be the factor, as much as I love it, nostalgia couldn't be what cemented that I still really enjoyed it) Seriously, I would trade all the tail I chased in high school just to go back and undo that mistake, and I wasn't like "dripping in it" or whatever the kids say these days, but in comparison to the other guys in my class I'd say I was "luckier" than most, if you wanna call it that.

I'll never forget two awesome moments I had playing Gold as a little kid: one was running into suicine and capturing him on the first try, and also randomly finding Lapras without realizing it was a Friday only event. Unmeasurable amount of joy was had playing that game.

A perfect remake would have needed two more things that HG/SS didn't have, 1)is a graphics switcher between crystal and hg/ss sprites, just like mario maker has, they added it for music, they could have added it for sprites as well, and 2)sevii islands.

Awesome video. I’ve gotta say though, it’s so interesting to me to hear Let’s Go Pikachu described as “baby easy” and not a good introduction for new players. Because I’m 38 years old, and it was the first Pokémon game I ever played. I LOVED it, and it got me into the series. I’ve since played several of the older games, so I understand the criticisms, but for me, Let’s Go Pikachu was a lot of fun and was extremely intriguing. It got me hooked on the series instantly. And no, it’s not a hard game by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s not so easy that I felt like I was being handheld either. It’s just a fun, maybe slightly more casual experience. But that doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

I went to buy heart gold as I played the original as a kid but it’s crazy expensive now, so I just repurchased the original on my 3DS

i find it so, thoroughly bizarre that it's treated as this foregone conclusion that, if you want to introduce young kids to a game, you effectively make it play itself through cutscenes, tutorial and handholding. where did this notion pop up from? what reinforced it? red/blue were by far the most inscrutable pokemon games and a lot of people (myself included) first played through them when we were like, 7, because as it turns out pokemon is a conceptually simple game for an average non-competitive player playing through the game, and a lot of the learning is done through trial and error. i didn't read guides to learn type matchups because i was 7 and didn't have access to them, i just threw stuff at the wall and saw what stuck. there's no reason to think kids these days wouldn't learn an actually challenging pokemon game in the same way

@@WyattP20 very true. that was the biggest change I wanted with the gen IV dex, and they still relegated almost all of the later evolutions to Kanto. Would've been nice to have access to a lot of the items earlier than by chance with pokeathlon, too. At least the sprites were really nice

Helpful note: In the Final Trial instead of using reds to go through the fire geysers, get ten blues, and go to the far left of the geysers and when you're near the box just throw them and you won't have to use reds at all.
