We are new to the channel and enjoy it, we lived downriver over forty years and retired to our cabin of 23 years in the Mio area and love being here. It’s nice to see someone from the same neighborhood. With us the different feeling turned out being not going back home ..

A suggestion if you watch videos called DA Jungle Boy, he built his cabin by himself, and he collected water in barrels and ran pipes through them under his house to have water for dishes, showers, etc and he put a generator to get hot water, watch his video cuz he got that all done..He is a young kid..and he installed water filters so they can use the water to drink and shower.. Watch his older videos it should say installing water..He even has a real refrigerator and stove too

For the pizza ideas, we used to use a camp pie maker over the fire. We would just use two pieces of bread with the pizza filling in the middle. For some reason we always call it a pudgy pie maker. We would also use it with pie filling mix to make cherry pie or peach pie etc. Your pizza turned out great!

I used to make those pizza sandwiches over the fire all the time. I think we still have one somewhere.

AWH whats your plan from keeping water from freezing
@toddrachel3 күн бұрын
There is no plan for that. When winter come, we'll have to drain it. Without grid power, there's no way to keep it from freezer unless we bury the tank somewhere.

We do an Amish store run twice a month and I've budgeted in $800 for shopping there. My hubs was deployed for 3 solid years and while he was away, I budgeted $1500 per month. I backed off when he got back in 2023 July. We have a rather large farmhouse (over 150 years old) that's 4.5 stories. I don't intend for us to be caught wanting if things go sideways. And things are looking rather hinky of late.

We really like solar panels to run light and a fridge. Batteries are a must for that system, which increases the cost and maintenance, but provides reliable power 24/7.

A shower should not use more than 2 gallons of water. Sounds like you are just allowing it to run down the drain. You are probably using 10 gallons to wash a days worth of dirty dishes too. There is a mind set for living off grid. And it's totally different than city life. A ram pump from the river would be easy. And it would work 24/7. A food grade 55 gallon blue barrel with sand and bio char would filter a couple of years worth of water before needing to be back flushed to work for another couple of years. Check out "Engineer 775 for the Ram pump ", there is an Asian man who worked with a professor of Georgia state university to build the natural filter. His channel is under his name that starts with a "Y" my old brain is not working today. But Google should be able to help. If you use gutters put on leaf covers, put in a long 4 inch "first flush system, and then a diverted to your tank to get the cleanest water possible. I'm surprised it's taken this long to get tired of lugging buckets. Good luck in the future making your water systems .

Ok his name was Jon not Yon like I thought. The channel is Jon Jandai the video is titled " Life is easy" the Professors name was George Curren. It's a tested & proven filtering system. His is for an entire village of people yours could be 1 barrel for your cabin for years of safe water filtering use.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll check them out. From what understand, you kind of have to "force" the water through your pipe using a ram system - either rocks, boards, dam or some kind. Our river is a protected natural resource, so we can't alter it i any way.

Have you ever looked into installing a ram pump down at the river?
@toddrachel6 күн бұрын
Yes. In most cases, you need to alter the stream / river a bit to "force" the water into your inlet pipe. Our river is a protected natural river, so we can't really put in rocks, or create dams to alter the flow at all.
