    Great information! I always thought the Corsair was the preferred pacific theater fighter plane, learn something new everyday! Wasn't the upgrade the F8F Bearcat? - Compared to the Hellcat, the Bearcat was 20% lighter, had a 30% better rate of climb, and was 50 mph (80 km/h) faster.

    Interesting will NZ follow suit? I would like to see ADF purchase HH 60W blackhawks, ADF has done training US para rescue. I did hear RAN wanted big lft helicopters like CH 53K but would consider Bell Osprey. As for unmanned helicopters i hear Jet fuel was problem but RAN should just purchase MQ8 Fire Scout.

    The v2 is a poor replacement for the blackhawk it can only carry 500kg more or 2 more soldiers with gear yes its faster but its also bigger an speed in a preplanned assault is a mute point leave earlier .the gains a Blackhawk has is its ability to be adapted to any role you cant hang weapons of a v2 an use the only v2 advantage of speed as you'll blow your rotors of an i wouldn't want to sit hovering in a v2 any longer then needed . blackhawk may be old but its tried an tested .you can depend on it plan around it budget for it . just like the huey was old ...very old

  • @Mr-Damage
    @Mr-DamageКүн бұрын

    Fair statement you make there I'd agree. A blackhawk can carry a full section of infantry 4 across the back and 4 each side facing out from memory so the need for another 2 grunts really doesn't make sense and load out weight of that section wouldn't matter either because 10 grunts aren't going to carry the extra weight of 2 either nevermind a V2 being shot down in a hot LZ with a tight perimeter, it would probably take out everyone & everything else in that LZ. I can just imagine those massive blades and engines thrashing about still going full tilt from the fuel left in the lines for 10 seconds as it disintegrates inside said LZ.

    The Australian defence procurement system is a masterclass in what not to do. How many times do we have to waste money trying to go a different way, only to end up buying the platform we should have bought in the first place. ( Seasprite/Tiger/MRH 90 to name a few)

  • @petrichor3947

    Don’t forget the Arafura class and let’s hope not the Hunter class. At least the next frigate we buy is meant to be of the shelf best fit no stupid new untested systems to make it the best available.

    You could counter that by looking at the purchase of the C-17, C-130J's, CH-47 and even the Growlers where if they stick to a script, it may actually work out. But yep..they sure make it hard for themselves.

    Isn't America replacing its blackhawks with the Bell V280 Valor? Shouldn't we have just kept using what we have until those become available?

  • @richardthomson4693
    @richardthomson4693Күн бұрын

    no. US has thousands of blackhawks in service no practical time frame to replace them. V280 is going to be deployed where its speed and range can be used to its advantage. The pacific mostly, while blackhawk will continue to be deployed where it shorter range is not a negative ie europe, and the americas. Middle east will be probably be a combo of the 2

    G'day, How does a Channel dedicated to Oz Military Aviation, make a Phantoms in Vietnam Video ; Without mentioning the time Oz had to be Loaned Phantoms to operate In Vietnam, While Unkle Spam was busy Reattatching the Wings of the F-111c fleet they'd sold us but failed to deliver. And, How comes it that you PERPETUATED the Myth that in 1964 the Excited Status of Norte ArmedmeriKano was "Retaliating" or "Reacting to" ANY alleged "Torpedo Attacks" in the Gulf of Tonkin...; When, since the publication of the "Pentagon Papers" in 1972 It has been fully accepted that CINCPAC in Hawaii was only under the impression for 35 minutes, that the two DOLPHINS seen by an excitably (hysterically ?) frightened Midshipman, and reported to the Bridge of the Destroyer as being "Torpedoes, Incoming...!", Were Any sort of a "Thing" in Reality. But CINCPAC in Hawaii had reported the initial Wrong Message to Washington..., Half an hour before receiving - and retransmitting the Correction. However, McNamarra saw the Original, and convinced Johnson to prepare to Storm the Beaches. Such is life, Have a good one... Stay safe ! Ciao !

    The first incident on 2 August did happen when the USS Maddox intel ship was attacked by North Vietnamese torpedo boats. The second alleged incident on 4 Aug never occurred. The skipper of the Maddox, CAPT Herrick, initially reported radar and sonar contacts which the crew did actually fire on, but the same night CAPT Herrick reported that those were probably in fact weather anomolies.

    2024, it appears that YF-23 should still have the time and capabilities to be reinstated, refined and put in commission as an addition of Gen5 if not Gen6 USAF [ONLY], and be deployed along side with F-22’s; there’s always room for one more! YF-23 is definitely superior to all other foreign fighters to date. Unfortunately, those who had the know-how that worked on them are already at my own age, an already retired aerospace engineer.

    Brilliant information on very little discussed early combat of the F4 over Vietnam ... BTW ... complete nit picking but the F4 shown for Terence Murphy @5:12 showed the carrier markings as the Connie CVA-60 ... but VF-96 was apparently on the Ranger CVA-61 for that cruise. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VF-96#Vietnam Loved the use of computer graphics brought it all to life far better than old grainy B&W video.
