Once I learned about the Buran, I have been fascinated with the differences and improvements between it and the shuttle. Genuinely saddened by it's demise with the collapse of buildings that housed the remaining two examples.

Buran basicly look like the shuttle because its the only way it makes contructional and aerodynamical sense. But if you look closer, they are VERY, VERY DIFFERENT from each other. Clearly this "expert" just read a few magazine articles but actually doesn't know what he´s talking abut...

The autonomous flight of the Buran was something the US never equaled. But I always felt that Buran was a misuse of scientific and engineering talent. The Soviet space program had a long history of firsts and unique accomplishments, why limit their best people to copying something someone else had done?

Did the US try to do it? Or express interest in doing it?

Unique accomplishments?? Lol.The Apollo 8 flight around the moon in 1968 has rendered all these alleged Soviet accomplishments obsolete..Until today ,no Soviet or Russian kosmonaut has travelled any further than Gagarin in 1961... Unique accomplishments my ass 😂. Soviet N1 moon rockets have all exploded in less than few seconds after launch.. Unique accomplishments?? Lets take a look at few New Horizons, the first spacecraft to explore Pluto up close, Juno mission to Jupiter...The list is too long.. Voyager, Pioneer..........Nasa has rediscovered the Solar System..Hubble Telescope, James Webb..
