Solid advice - can add my anecdote to the stack - I needed to soundproof a door between two rooms - the door didn't need to be operational. I went with a combination of hard sheets of insulating foam and duct tape... not exactly ideal but I was freeballin it and it was reasonably inexpensive. The important element is that for the majority of my time installing the sheets snugly shutting out all of the doorspace... it didn't result in any substantial noise reduction... but when I closed the final gap - it was like MAGIC 🧙, the noise reduction kicked in massively. It did basically nothing up until I got to that point - it would 'block' the sound in the same way holding it in front of your face would, but the instant I closed the final gap it all kicked in at the same time. So can't stress enough how critical closing the gaps is in actually reducing sound transmission.

*BLANKETS AND RUGS* Here in Eastern Europe, people laugh at the old tradition of having carpets on the wall - rugs - but actually, they offer AMAZING thermal and sound insulation. We tend not to use AC even though it gets to 110F here most summers. I have rugs on wooden poles that I put up at the windows in summer as well as 2 sets of heavy curtains on the south-facing windows. Its way easier and cheaper to keep the heat OUT than to allow it in and cool it.

This guy really tries to help. I kind of hope, if it isn't already done, showing a non invasive approach to a wall ( like in an instance of a renter) to other things. Sometimes people room together and it can be hard to sleep if you operate at different times of the day.

I lived in a dorm and we covered the walls and the ceiling with bed sheets and those cheap Led Zeppelin printed giant blankets you see in discount malls. Probably a fire hazard but it did make the sound dead. It was like a cave in there. A useless story but you said you wanted a comment.

Its strongly seems to me, but I maybe missing something. The cheaper machine was running more than a few more revs higher compared to the Honda. Therefore more noise. Honda make very nice products but yes higher price. Do compated with other branded machines how does the cheap yellow one compare would be a more accurate comparision.

Man, better have an air return dedicated to the room if you seal off the door. Then you need to worry about the face velocity of the ducts because most hvac systems are not designed to use / maintain a face velocity at the grill below 500 fpm which nets a whisper quiet operation. To have a really quiet room is pretty expensive.

The wiggle of the door usually doesn't need caulking or weatherstripping. To fix this adjust your door latch strike plate. There should be a tab that you can adjust with a screwdriver. Bend it a bit and close the door, if it still wiggles, repeat the process until it no longer wiggles. If your strike plate doesn't have an adjustment tab you can get a new strike plate for about $2.

Changing any single pane exterior windows is good regardless for keeping your house hot/cool. Single pane windows are pretty terrible at everything except keeping the wind out and should be first priority before all this other stuff.
