Another enjoyable video John. I totally agree with you regarding the five aspects of improvement. Just an observation though, I believe that I read in Athletics Weekly in the 1980s (I think it was) Carlos Lopes was quoted as saying that it was his imbibing of a glass of red wine each day (he didn't specify the size of glass) that contributed to his running achievements. Naturally, as any aspiring runner would do I immediately replicated this aspect of his training programme. I had previously read that Lasse Viren had also attributed his success (partly to) the drinking of raindeer milk. Unfortunately, this was not readily available to purchase in 1980s south Yorkshire (it might be different today) so I stuck to what was available on the vin rouge shelves. Not sure if it helped my running performances but it definitely expanded my knowledge of oenology (!). Yes, I looked this word up. Alcohol, eh? To drink or not to drink? That is the question.
just come across this video and i have run that way with the 13.5 mile race at Bridlington road runners do in October but decided to go back in December and do grim up norths Bridlington Bonanaz races not sure which distance on the 29th December
Excellent list, John. I think I tried to find the Ron Hill books after you mentioned then previously. They're not in my price range at the moment! I do watch Run Elite videos, and he speaks a lot of sense.
Are you moving towards a raw plant diet? In fact you could try eating your way through all that undergrowth you had on that trail run. Kill two birds with one stone.
@@tworunningbrooms 😂 I actually almost mentioned his... unusual diet choices, in my initial comment. I didn't want to sound negative though, as his running advice seems good, and he explains things really clearly. Perhaps I'll try a nettle tea one day. Dip my toe in the water.
Inside Running is one I listen to every week. Google it and download the file, then transfer to your headphones. They also have one called Shoe Geeks. They've interviewed lots of runners.
It's also on the Podbean app.
Motivation is a myth? 🤪
It's fleeting and transitory. Habit and identity underpin success. Unless the motivation is to repeat the habit 😉
Great upload. TQ. Great to hear you like Bob Dylan, an acquired taste.
Love his music. First saw him live in 1987 and haven't looked back.
I was waiting for club membership to come up, although I guess there's some similarities with parkrun.
Yes I did think about that one later. I guess club membership was hugely important in the early days. I guess more recently going alternative 1st Claim for track and doing the relay for my 1st Claim club still shows the importance of a club continues. Got the obligatory Ron Hill reference though 😉
Good stuff. I still cant believe the alcohol, high performance sport and alcohol dont mix! In the last few months to lower my scarily high cholesterol ive given up processed fake meats (im a vegetarian). Cut out a lot of fat from my diet, so eat fresh whole foods. Felt much better for it when running and my cholesterol dropped significantly so win win. Koko
Performance was never above moderate but yes would have been a bit quicker in retrospect. Loving the fresh food aspect. It's also quite mindful preparing the food.
Wow - hard work does payoff. Well done on the PB. That commentary though?! 👊
Thanks Neil. Appreciate the compliments.
I would like to see a video on your strength and conditioning work.
We'll look at that. We got a programme to follow today
Good video. My favourite is an out/back. A bit biased there as my local, Tuggeranong is such a course. I get to see the leaders and my friends down to the tailwalker. #bringbackthestats
Yes that's the nice thing about this sort of course. And yes to the stats. In the long term I fear they will remove more stats. Age grading for a kick-off.
Quite a nice park run that 😃 Great job 💪 Yeah proper and and alcohol don't mix well for me either 🎉
No more Newky Browns? Used to drink gallons of that stuff at University
Well done, John. Really good stuff in the commentary, as ever.
Thank you Mark Hoping the become the Richie Benaud of running KZread
Another good video. I think I used to run against you back in the day how many miles do you do each day
It's very kind to say you used to run with me. About 2 mins in front of me at most races! I'm doing around 50 miles per week at present. 60-70 when training for a marathon.
Well done on smashing your PB for the course. Thanks for the shout out on the TPT during the Penistone 10k. Find it really hard to motivate myself to get out there and train. Once I'm out, it's not too bad. Barnsley 10k on Sunday and I should be up for pushing myself to the limit. Half of me wants to, the other half just wants to have a steady run and soak up the atmosphere.
Yeah I can relate to that. Barnsley 10k has many happy memories and is obviously an iconic event anyway. And no one's going to rip up the course for a fast time. But then there's the local pride.
Love that dry humour in the. Wet. Weather. What else. Looks good that I enjoy the adrenaline of a race. 😉 Except when I get stitch for some unknown reason. Then I slow down and the pain goes
Stitches are the pits. Normally get one in the wind. Probably gulping too much air for me, and yes, slowing down helps, thankfully. 👍
I really enjoy the XC team events, even though I don't like XC. Camaraderie makes up for it.
Yes they have a great atmosphere too. And racing for points position.
Thanks for uploading!
Thank you
Taking the bad weather with you 🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️ 😱 Not the best start to the race but still looked a great event. Well done to your team too 😊
And this week I'm melting. Never a dull moment.
"Sometimes 'great' is an overused adjective" Brilliant. I used to live in Sheffield in the 1980s. Some lovely training runs. Sheffield weather, though!
Yes there is a video made in the early 1980s of Seb Coe training near there.
Saw you today on the trans pennine trail whilst running the Penistone 10k, couldn’t stop to chat 😂😂
haha. Hope you had a good one.
I used to notice signs for Bradfield and Dungworth on my commute from Bakewell to Deepcar, some years ago. For some reason I'd often get the names mixed up in my head, and invent a place called Dungfield 😅 19:07 sounds like a great time, John. I'm surprised you didn't mention it more! 😁👍🏻
As I mentioned elsewhere in the comments, probably an 18:30 with super shoe adjusted time :-). Also near by is Ughill. Which you can say next time you hit a challenging incline.
Great video, it really captured the evening superbly! That course PB of 19:07 is very impressive indeed, I'm guessing that wasn't in Vaporflys!
Thanks Steven. Indeed not. Probably Nike Ekidens. In fact my super shoe adjusted time here is probably around 18:30 😀
Well done 👏 Looks like a brilliant event. I’m sure you featured on Andrew Pick’s (run parkrun with me) video. I agree, relay events are fantastic, with a huge feeling of team spirit and togetherness.
Thank you. Yes I saw Andy's video. I seemed to have a starring role for the first mile or so 😀
Well done, fantastic age grading.
Thank you. 👍
@tworunningbrooms I followed your advice from this. Yesterday, I ran Nostell and I'm now 45s off beating my 5k time. I'm planning on Pontefract parkrun on the 27th July and having a good go at my 5km time. Then at some point I'm going to Selby to break into 30s 5km times. Fingers crossed on that one.
Well done Lorraine. Great to see.
Brilliant, what a trooper you are John!
Thank you
Great to watch Doing this park run in 5 hrs 🎉 Will help
Enjoy! 🙂
Well done, John. Haha - I laughed at your "double threshold" comment after the 22:02
We try to educate, inform and entertain...
@@tworunningbrooms love it mate. The Ingerbritsens will be copying you soon!
Fantastic effort John & brave man for giving those events a go.You are certainly a dedicated Club member who gives everything for your club. It's a shame there wasn't a lot of similar aged athletes as yourself. Looked like a lot of younsters
Thanks Kev. I've always done these events when I can.
This was brilliant John. Well done on taking on all those events. Did no one else from your team want to have a go at some of the races or throws? We were wondering if there’d be some triple jumping or pole volt in the next meeting? 😱
Haha. They actually have rules on the Pole Vault where you need to have practised it. I draw the line at jumping events as I'd probably strain something.
I'm really ashamed to admit but I was hoping to see a race for people with no sense of direction. John. You are truly a bloody hero!
Never mind the incontinence one...
There was almost as much variation in the weather as the events you took part in 😂 Daley Thompson has nothing on you, John! Well played. It looked like a lot of fun 👍🏻🏃♂️
Ah Daley Thompson's Decathlon for the ZX Spectrum.
Well done John! I've tried to broaden my range of running distances recently, but to go down to 100m and add in some throwing too is very impressive. I'll have a wild guess that's not the last we've seen of the rain 🌧(no spoilers!)
Oh yes Tuesday's relay upcoming...
Love it. An inspiration to anyone who is thinking about giving it a go and thinking they aren’t ready 👍 incidentally I spent a week in the Caribbean with Norman Pace while he was commentating on the poker 😂
Poker with Pace
Or Pokerpace
Very well done, good participation there. Great 5k time
Thank you
Thank you
Great racing both, looked like a very fast course indeed 🔥🔥 You both have a crazy amount of races goingon haha, thats what i like to see, keep it up
Racing is content potential, as I'm sure you're aware Ryan 😉
@@tworunningbrooms very very true 😂 always for the content 🔥🎉😍
A Great little course PB and looked like a nice course apart from the odd trip hazard 😅😂
Plyometrics comes in useful. 😅
Well done, Dawn. Really enjoyed that video.
Thank you, Neil. A tough bit of running. 😅
Well done Dawn. Even better congratulations on your age grading 🎉 I’ve been trying to get some course pbs under my belt recently, with not much luck 😁 If we are ever that way we’d definitely give this course a go. Just so we can say we ran The Brooms local! There’s a place called Broom not too far from here… no parkrun though which is a shame. You’d definitely have to do that one if it ever got started 😊
Thanks, Rachel. Age grading keeps me motivated to push in races and parkruns. 🙂 You'd enjoy Penistone parkrun. It's also a nice area for a short break...😁 There's a few streets named Broom. In fact, I believe John lived on Broom Hill when he was at university. 🙂
Really good to meet you on Saturday andy.legond.keep the vids coming.
Thank you
You've beat my Penistone pb now! There will be trouble at mill! Mine is 22:44. Well done Dawn
Well done, Dawn. And as a guy of a similar age to you, John, I hope one day I can run at the pace you did there whilst making it look so easy 👍
Thank you! #keeponkeepingon 🙂
Reflecting on Victorian times ...... I hope you paid that lad a fair wage for his pacing efforts!
Haha. He certainly did well!!
Really good run Dawn, congrats on the new pb, think on the flat would be sub 22 keep up the good work keep on keeping on👍🏼👣✅✌️🌴👍🏃🏽♂️🥳
Yes, that's just my age-best pb on that course. On a flat course, I've done low 21. 🙂
I think I might borrow that mantra for my own tough races, if that's ok. Hope I don't sound too silly shouting, "come on, Dawn! " towards the end of my next parkrun 😅 Well done, Dawn 👍🏻💪🏃♂️
You literally had her laughing out loud when I just read it to her 😉 We await your next parkrun Vlog with more than usual interest!
There's a Dawn in you Sparky. You just need to let her out. 💃
Well done Dawn on your course PB and another excellent age grading 😊
Cheers. 🙂
Fantastic effort Dawn, you smashed it💥
Handy to have a parkrun and an old railway within a short stagger from home! Well done to Dawn and John must be getting fitter as he hardly looked like he was trying at all there - well running not filming that is LOL.
It's a fantastic section of old railway line. 10 miles near us with just 1 road crossing, so good for out and back 20 milers. 🙂
Good effort, nice little course pb there. That looks hard on the grass chasing a time.
Thank you. 🙂 It certainly was tough on the grass. I left myself a bit too much to do so had to work harder than I would've liked. 🤣
Brilliant running, thanx for the great vid. You're both such a breath of fresh air. #keeponkeepingon 🙂
Thank you. 👍 We're glad you enjoyed the videos. 😁
