Brother. What is your name ? Are you from U. K
Paul, yes
I have an Nakamichi BX100 which is 1986 and has EX (1) SX(2) and ZX (4) markings 😊
Good to see what to check on some decks. I fixed a Denon CD/Cassette deck recently and continuing working on a Sony TC-177SD. All fun to work on. I should keep away from cassette walkmans though!
Bro if i borned in our country. I was your student. I love these machines alot
Hi, love your patience. As a Senior who has tried all this as a hobby, I would have consigned this deck to the bin a loooong time back. Question: what oil (in the syringe?) and grease do you use? I would love to know. Keep up the good work. Cheers
The oil is called slug slime, but it's basically sewing machine oil. The grease is called molycote dx, any white lithium grease is good!
Philips turns simple mechanisms into disaster one. Its too hard for the mechanics to fix philips sets. Wether is deck or an radio set. In our country ( India) . Simply ignores to fix or repair any philips systems.
Wow. You are s good technician who do job with love and patience
nothing new! will you shout it?😅
Watching this video has made me realise that not everyone is stupid about cleaning vinyl records... I've been using the Retro/ Music Spin Cleaner for the last 3 years but will say that you can get away with cleaning the vinyl records anyway you feel comfortable as long as you don't press to hard just like you are doing .
Yeah I've got one of them rotary cleaners now. A lot less hassle I'll be honest, and it's done 200 odd records on the original bottle of fluid too.
Hi Sir I am a watch mechanic in Sri Lanka and I am waiting for your help. Can you please help me?
What do you need help with my friend

You sir are not chatting rubbish. You are spewing gold. Your video is a treasure trove for us newbies. Maybe I'll get this tape deck to work after all. thank you so much!
Thanks, I have a lot of videos on this particular deck if yours is the same. What's your issues?
Help my yamaha deck not reconize normal tape only metal tape how i fix this problem
Leaf switches inside the door, at the topmofnthe transport. Give em a play
Hi, thank you for the explanation. These decks are sometimes tricky. I've changed the belts on my tc-k500 S, I have to take out the transport out a few times because it won't play properly, the grey cam gear😂 now it works nice but the Dolby section is completly not working. I've used contact spray on the switch and checked all connections. Do you have any tips? Cheers
Double check you've got the ribbon cable in correctly from the front panel to the main board and the display
@@pwrestoration ok, thanks
It's actually my deck - great job Paul!! I also have a Sony 661s which Paul sorted out - again great work. I've some cassettes from back in the day that I very occasionally play, and I can now do tape to tape with the Nak being the playback deck. I doubt tapes will come back like vinyl has but if (like me) you want to record something from vinyl or another source, a good cassette deck can have its place. Getting a good vintage one serviced like this gets you a better machine than a new one (without dolby etc).
Did you try to run it on windows 10 using windows 7 compatibility mode? And THANK YOU for a very informative video 👍
Hi I did and it didn't work. It seems limited to use in lower versions of windows. What I did learn is DO NOT press buttons on things you don't understand. Some elements don't work - such as injector coding. At least on my version. I reset my fuel trims and it was a terrible idea. I had to pay a guy with Clip to sort out my mess. Its great for code reading and diagnosis. Very dangerous for anything more complex. Good luck!
Fantastic video dude.
Thanks a ton!
I should have give you my Aiwa xls 7000 to service ! - great video
I've just watched a future video where you repair a 450 variant of this. It would be interesting to hear and see if there was a difference between the two. As there's a separate drive motor for the flywheel; if the heads are different and or electronics.
How did you trim that shaft without bending it?
Witj a Dremel and a cutting disk
good job ! where are you sourcing your mabuchi motors from if i may ask ?
eBay!
@@pwrestoration that’s where I found them as well , wondering if there was another source 😉
Hey still lovin the content, had another question tho...where do you get your pinch rollers from?? I forgot what video it was but I remember you said you got them in bulk.
I generally get them from eBay, and have a stock, but for some higher end stuff I like to buy individual ones. For most of my Sony stuff I measure the one coming off with a micrometer and order 5 or 6.
Very nice , I have 2 Sony Walkman's and a Kenwood hifi deck from early 70's. Bought new and now for sale USD $ 1000.
Worked at a electronics module factory before. For cleaning copper traces/pads, we used to use pencil plastic erasers and does the job nicely without affecting PCB masks or scratching the pads.
Ah I have one on my shelves, I wondered why I had put it there 😅
Another thank you for this great video. My KE200 had also stopped working as both belts had disintegrated to an oily mess. I followed the instructions you provided and got into the unit and spent at least 1.5 hours cleaning the oily gunk out (truly a messy process - I used most of pack of cotton buds and a third of a botte of IPA). Got a replcement belt and roller kit from Ebay (£11) which included a new spindle for the roller and fitted them as shown in this video. Fired it up and was extremely pleased to have my cassette desk workng again.
Happy to help! I love these decks. I've still got this one, and it sounds better than a lot of its higher priced competitors. That oily gunk finds way of getting in your hands no matter how much you avoid it 😅
Very good
if i may ask for the specs of the labtop you used in this vedio info about the processor and the ram thanks🌹
i3 with 2gb ram
@@pwrestoration thanks a lot🌹
I GOT ONE FOR 5 BOX WORKING .
Five boxes!
Quick answer to your video title quetion : Because it's broken ...hmm said it .
Had my Nakamichi Cassette Deck 2 from new and it's still going strong handy thing is they can be picked up for a good price these days as most people want the more high-end decks also bought a DR-3 about a year ago which i think is the same deck just with a different fascia for £60 and it's in mint condition
Yes they're very similar internally. Thankfully they got rid of the bloomin idler tyre
Messing around with cassette decks in 2024 is laughable!! 😆 I gave up the format in 2001, absolute trash nowadays 🗑️
Top comment would read again 11/10
Yes, it is 'laughable' - I'm laughing all the way to the bank. I am still repairing and servicing them and I have enough work to keep me going for a long time yet, with new jobs arriving every week. If it's "absolute trash", how come so many people want their decks repaired?
@David Mander 😂your commenting this trash on a successful technician's video, who is kind, helpful and educational is *even more laughable!* 😂 I liked ur comment yes, but because it made me 😂 PW Restoration, u keep up the outstanding work, mate, haters gotta hate. Greetings from Trinidad❤
@@sw6188 because he's a fool lol I have two decks and still use a top of the range Sony in my car 😉👍
Then why are you here? It must be very boring for you.
Happy days good outcome
A good outcome would be to bin it and get a decent CD player instead!
Great job as usual 👍What is the source for that motor?
Thanks! Off hand I can't remember, I think it was eBay for a pair (couldn't source a single) but it came from somewhere random like Germany
Great video and very helpful. Thank you.
Hi have a look at Nic and Andrea Hills they have a tool box full of electricals ideal for you and fixing players
👍
Knackered-Michi
Unfortunately as I repair them that's the only kind I see! 😅
@@pwrestoration 😂
Another great job, well done Paul
Many thanks!
I have the same deck, although in silver, and really like it. What causes these motors to flat spot, and is there any way to avoid it?
Unfortunately it seems not, it's caused by lack of use or the motor being in one position. The motors CAN be refurbished but the concencus is that it will fail again. Using a new, albeit Chinese replacement is looked down on by purists but it doesn't affect playback or recording. Just takeup and RW/FF. I've done a few now.
That was great to watch - I have one of these decks so may be useful one day. £350 though? They tend to sell for about 1/3 of that on the bay.
Sorry, that was their original RRP - in 1990! One pricy bit of kit back then.
I bought this deck in 1992 for 999 Dutch Guilders, (today €950). Surprisingly good value for the money.
It sounds very nice
Will this run spooky software mate?
What's spooky software? 😅👻👻👻
I am facing a little confusion about a capacitor c107 ,in cicuit diagram it shows 4700/5.5 and physically I found 4.7/5.5 what is right ? Which one is correct to replace? Please clarify
Does it look like it's original? Still has original solder, no marks etc? If so replace like for like.
@@pwrestoration thanx for your prompt reply. Originally marked 4.7 mf 5.5 volt does it means 4.7 million fard equivalent to 4700 μf. Its original from rubycon and I am not able to find in 5.5 volt
I still have mine since I was six! 😅😊
hi, i have 2 TDK CD-R Audio can i copy Playstation 1 Games on it or is it only for Music? Please i need fast Answer
Yes only for audio. They have a small piece of coding at the start of the disc to ID it.. I think your ps1 will think it's an audio cd
@@pwrestoration thank you for your answer
FIRST OF ALL YOU HAVE TOCHECK THE PEAK METER ACCURACY ACCORDINGLY,FOR EXAMPLE 500 MV ,AT O DB LEVEL MARKING,
Greate job
I found the capstan motors in those decks needed to be changed frequently when under constant use
Yes, I've changed a few. It made sense on the 661 to only run when playing
well done ! , good repair
Do the pops, snaps and crackles go away with this method?
It definitely helps, a lot!
Dat Flywheel is a Monster 😱
