Seller said it's broke, but its not?! Nakamichi DR3 Cassette Deck Repair & Service!

I picked up this Nakamichi DR3 as spares and repairs on eBay quite a while back, and as I slowly get through my queue I remembered to buy a belt kit and get it serviced.
But I'm in for a shock when I actually test the deck!

I have a DR3, great little machine I love it. I bought 2 Sony 611’s 3 head machines after watching your videos, both super condition around the cases but not working. Both Sonys Sold as spares on marketplace (find it cheaper than eBay) did the belts etc and now have 2 great Sony machines. I can’t sell them though, they are so nice so I have a cluster of decks. I’ve started buying DAT machines as well, so bloody addictive. Same sort of problems as the cassette decks. I just bought a Sony A8 dat as spares parts. It is wonderful condition, found the cam had slipped on the tape loader, set it back into the right location greased it up….bingo perfect. I have also found I can record from my Wiim streamer into the dat with a coax connection, so all digital.

@@pwrestoration yes good call. I have seen some Sonys going for mad money, but realistic is more like £200 I think anyway. I have a Sony A8, A6, 700 seriesES, and a tascam 30. Can’t tell the difference in sound at all. I also found tapes can be cheap if you buy the data tapes they last longer are more robust and don’t have music written on them……. It’s great to be able to tape digitial from a streamer, my wife says ‘why do that you can stream it’ which is 100% correct, I say ‘because I can’ it’s also nice to just drop a mix tape in rather than muck about with the iPhone etc.

i bought last tuesday a still in the box nakamichi DR-10 in champagne ,but the brand is huge and where the cassette is inserted but on top of it and it looks a lot like this but a 3 head deck, it cost me 500€, but it works like new and released in 99 i thought the last was released in the 90´s but refering to the cassette deck 1, that with no doubt is the best nakamichi deck i ever had i took a great care of it and it works, today, the dr-3 , as you can see have the same display in the front as others. The CR-7a is also a great deck but in the summer i never play anything there

It's really difficult to find an original nakamichi reel motor that you can trust will work. It's far easier to buy a replacement motor - Mabuchi RF510T is cheap and a direct replacement. But you do have to strip the transport to fit it.
