Hi, How's it going with this project? I've got an 8" Meade that I was going to have a play with. Do you have any of the 3d files I could have a play with as I'm sure I'll have to mod it to fit the smaller diameter

Hi Rob, my name is Jaime and I have been following a modification like this since Astrosuhaib made a video about this topic. Your images are very nice and sharp. I think I will give it a try, I have a C11, not Edge, also I have a Skywatcher quattro which it came with coma corrector. I will carefully take the measurements , then need to figure it out how to make your version of adapter to mounting the coma corrector in front of the telescope. Thanks for you excellent work and for documented the modification. Greetings from BelloCielo - Chile.

Lovely widefield rig you have there Rob, and great images as well. I'm looking forward to comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, if it survives perihelion it could be one of the best in recent times. I'm old enough to remember Hale-Bopp and hope to see another comet like it before I pop my cloggs (this one won't match Hale-Bopp but should still be good). As for the aurora, we had a spectacular display up here in Scotland, I too regret not taking a time lapse of it. I did take quite a few pictures but was too busy watching the show to think about taking a time lapse.

Nice new set up there…Look forward to more images with it…also you are alway better to have more weight on your CW bar higher up the shaft, then less weight lower down, it’s far better for the mount, gears and motors as the moment arm is shorter and less torque is needed to move the mount, so you have done the right thing there with a bigger weight…👍🏻

  • @sevenskiesastro

very good experiment, looks like there is room to try different designs, , i've been looking at the celestron hyperstar to adapt to a meade acf, not sure why they are not compatible , maybe different sized holes in the corrector ?

Thanks for posting this. I actually tried this approach on my new 8”Meade with ACF and learn that it wouldn’t work with their new RC like optical design. The image on my 533 was blur and moon shot has halo, even with a 2” GSO coma corrector. I’m trying a different approach to use dual 0.63 reducers from Celestron to bring it to 0.39X. Initial image seems much more acceptable.

  • @sevenskiesastro

Yes i can see how it may not work on an modern 8 inch. With the 10in the focal length is 500mm from mirror to corrector which is closer to the 800mm f4 aplanatic coma corrector im using. Still more experiments to do. Backfocus distance for one. Hope you get some clear skies for it. I plan on getting back on it soon as i can. Clear skies.

Question. You have a OSC 533MC. You took three hours with a filter, L-Pro. I understand that. How do you get RGB for an hour. Did you just remove the L-Pro filter? How do you capture the Ha with a OSC? Did you use another filter? I’ve seen others use L-Enhance on OSC. Can you explain this in more detail. I’m pretty new to this. I have a ASI071MC and would like to try your process. Beautiful results. Thanks.

Hello. I think you missed it in the beginning. I was using the player one saturn M which is a mono camera and rgb filters. You can capture data with a one shot coloue camera using a h alpha filter then add it into you rgb. I used the L Pro to capture my luminance as the light pollution is pretty bad here in London. Hope this clears it up for you. Ps thats a nice camera you have. Clear skies

Did you use 5 min subs? I'm trying to dial in the best amount of time and gain for galaxies, some are recommending shorter sub time to get more detail. I'm going to play around with 3 minute subs and keep gain at 100. Great pic! I'm loving my Skywatcher ED100. Supposedly these are too slow for astrophototgraphy but I'm really happy with the pics so far.

Hello David. The rgb subs were only 2 mins long. M81 was pretty much overhead so that helped. Unity gain for that camera was 125. Its all about just getting the histogram off the left hand side. Even if it means 60 sec subs and dither every 3 say. You'll love the 100 ed as i love mine. Clear skies bud
