Game Point

Game Point is a gathering spot for tabletop gamers. I mostly make how-to-play content, where my goal is to present board and card game rules in the most straightforward way possible, with enough detail to fully prepare you for your first time playing a game.

    😊 depending on how old your kids are, if they have a hard time learning the game, I'd recommend sorting out the deck to just teach them half the card types at first, then add in new types every time you play until they know them all.

    Development cards count as gems that you can permanently use for the rest of the game and do not count toward your 10 gems limit

    Thanks for answering this so fast! That's exactly right. It's impossible to save up enough gems to buy the expensive cards at the beginning of the game. But once you've bought some cheaper cards, those give you basically a discount for the rest of the game, that helps you buy the big stuff.

    Nicely done video! :) The audio & video were clear and easy to follow. I'll use what I learned here to teach the game at one of our upcoming game nights. Question - What would you say is the optimal number of players?

  • @GamePointTabletop
    @GamePointTabletop3 ай бұрын

    Ooh good question. Not one I feel super confident answering unfortunately. I've only played it with 4 players or solo. Between those two choices, I'd prefer 4-player. I generally am not very excited about solo games though, so that's not a dig at this game's solo mechanics. I suspect a 2- or 3-player game would make it easier to strategically watch what your opponents are collecting, so you could strategize around that more if you want to.

  • @GamePointTabletop
    @GamePointTabletop5 ай бұрын

    Yes they can. They'd need to have the right card (or a wild), but people often save wilds for the end specifically to do that. Hopefully if you've gotten a big asset, you can get it covered before the end so that it's safe even if your hand can't protect it.

    First Question Hi , my question is on the level 12 of ACHIEVEMENT SCENARIO that can be played in solo mode. In this scenario the Roosevelt elk token cannot be placed on forest habitat , does it means that the Roosevelt elk cannot be placed on the tiles that represents two types of habitat like forest and Prairies or forest and mountain ?? Or It cannot be placed only on those tiles that represents the single forest habitat ?? 2nd Question:- During a particular turn ,I had used a Nature token to wipe all the wildlife token , when I took out the next set of wildlife , three fox token came out , can I again replace those three fox tokens as mentioned in the rule book ?? Before I replace those three fox token , shall I put back all those wildlife token into the bag that I had wiped out using the nature token ??

  • @GamePointTabletop
    @GamePointTabletop6 ай бұрын

    I'm not familiar with the fine details of the achievements, but I can answer your second question. The wording in the rulebook for overpopulation and nature tokens implies that the order is strict, and you deal with overpopulation BEFORE using nature tokens only. So that would mean you can't choose to replace the three foxes. And for the second part of your question, about when to put the tokens back in the bag. The rulebook is clear when it comes to overpopulation, but not as clear when it comes to nature tokens. My understanding of the literal wording of the rulebook is that you leave all removed tiles out of the bag until you finish dealing with overpopulation, then mix them back in. Then you may spend any number of nature tiles, and if you use multiple you'd keep the removed tiles out until you're done with spending tokens, and mix them all back in when you're done. That literal interpretation of the rulebook seems overly complicated and legalistic to me though, so if I were actually playing I'd probably allow players to use nature tokens before or after resolving overpopulation, and keep removed tokens out of the bag through that whole process to mix back in once they're done with ALL replacements. Replacing tokens multiple times in a turn doesn't happen often enough for that to be a significant time burden on the game in my opinion. The one legalistic limitation from the rulebook I'd want to keep, though, is that you can only do a voluntary clearing of 3 matched wildlife, once per round.

    I still don't get the chopstick

  • @GamePointTabletop
    @GamePointTabletop6 ай бұрын

    It makes a ton more sense once you've done it once, but it is probably the most confusing part of this game so you're not alone. I'll try to give an example with numbers. See if this helps. The hands going around the table always need to have the same number of cards as each other so that they'll run out at the same time. So imagine you play chopsticks when all the hands have 6 cards each. Now all the hands have 5 cards and they pass around the table. You get a hand with 2 Sashimi in it, and you've already played one earlier. So you really want to play both of those sashimi to finish your set of 3. With chopsticks, you can do that! You'll hold out one of the sashimi face-down and reveal it when everyone's ready. Now everyone has a hand of 4 cards. But before you pass the rest of that hand to the next player, you pick up the chopsticks that you had played earlier and put them back in that hand, and take out the second sashimi in their place. So, in one turn that hand lost 2 cards (both sashimi) but it also gained the chopsticks that you picked back up. And now it has 4 cards in it just like the rest of the hands at the table, and you pass it along. Eventually, someone gets stuck with the chopsticks card and has to play it at the end of the round when they won't get a chance to pick it back up because the round is ending. That's sad because they have to play a card worth no points.

  • @jorgeayllon1594
    @jorgeayllon15946 ай бұрын

    But I think that doesn't make sense that way either. One of the hands will never change, so they know very approximately what will come in the next turn. I'm trying to explain: it's the first turn, player 1 controls the Dummy. He plays both cards and player 2 plays his. Then player 1 switches cards with player 2 and changes control of the Dummy. When they switch again, player 1 knows the cards that player 2 is going to give him.

  • @jorgeayllon1594
    @jorgeayllon15946 ай бұрын

    I'm going to explain how I play with 2 players. Turn 1, deal 9 cards to player 1 and player 2 and play. They swap the cards. Turn 2: before playing, both take a card from the available deck and discard one (it can be the new one or another one from the hand). If it is a Maki or Pudding card, it faces up for the Dummy to count points at the end of the round or game. They change cards again and turn 3 begins and they do the same. Like this until the end. This way it is more interesting since the players will not know all the cards when they return and it also influences the Maki and Pudding cards that we put in the Dummy to bother the opponent. I would also find your opinion interesting. Greetings

  • @GamePointTabletop
    @GamePointTabletop6 ай бұрын

    Ooh that version sounds really good! I agree this idea makes for more decision making and more opportunities to really surprise your opponent. In this case, I was teaching the official 2-player rules but I haven't actually played this game with only 2 players a ton of times (I usually play most games in larger groups). So your version might be better. I have a lot of playtesting background so in general I emphatically support tweaking and making up rules to experiment and improve your gaming experience. One worry I have is that this might make the dummy just win maki and puddings most of the time and the players just fight for second place. Do you find that happens often?

  • @jorgeayllon1594
    @jorgeayllon15946 ай бұрын

    @@GamePointTabletop Thank you very much for your answer. In this way, players have to think better about their strategy if they want to score with makis and if they do not want to subtract 6 points at the end of the game for Pudding.

    I'm glad it helped! I've found with this game (and lots of others), info about how you play pieces and stuff like that just doesn't stick when people don't already have the context of what they're aiming for. That's probably the first tip I'd give for most game teaching.
