I do mostly Disney videos, but toss in some home and auto Fix-It videos, some tech videos and 80's arcade restoration. It's a lot of different stuffs!! :-)

    Thought the sensor was messed up. Looked up and it was wired into the house so I knew I had to pay someone. After watching this video I started moving the sensor up and down till I saw it blink green, hooked it about 5inches higher than the other end &&& BOOM that mudafvcka was back working!

    Thanks but it’s absolutely ridiculous that we have to do any of this. My new garage door simply doesn’t close during the day because of whatever sunlight ghosts these sensors are sensing. I have to wait until it’s dark to close my door without issue and without going out to the garage and holding the button down. Even then it takes 3 tries.

    Mary Poppins is probably my favorite Disney movie of all time. I grew up watching the movie over and over as a kid, and a little while back I got to play a chimney sweep in a community theater production of Mary Poppins. Rest in peace, Mr Sherman. The music you and Robert wrote has touched kids and adults. I know you and your brother are writing music again.

    So I have a weird problem that my garage door keeps closing even if somebody comes in between the sensor, it will not stop and keeps closing. I see it as a safety issue in case a kid comes in the middle. The door will not stop. I do have sensors and they sent something as I can feel a little hesitation on the door, but it keeps on closing what could be the issue?

  • @DisneyDan
    @DisneyDan4 ай бұрын

    If your sensors are working (you can test using my method), then this issue is above my pay grade. :-) Hold out your hands as it closes and carefully grab the bottom of the door, as it lowers. It SHOULD start backing up. As it should if anything is in the way (I wouldn't recommend using a child to test this! ;-) ) . It is weird because if the sensors aren't working, it shouldn't close at all. One idea... maybe your door button INSIDE the garage is stuck? Try disconnecting that. You can override the entire thing by holding down that button you have in the garage (not on the unit, likely next to the door that goes into your home). So if that is somehow defective or has the wires crossed, maybe that's it? But back to 'weird', if that's it, your door shouldn't even open. Maybe try the same thing with the sensors by disconnecting them temporarily to see what happens. You'll likely get an error with that however. Like I said, this is above my pay grade... meaning I'm not a door tech, but I am a computer tech. If all still doesn't work properly, you may have to call a professional or if it's cheaper, install an entirely new unit yourself... if you're so inclined. Good Luck!

    Just curious has anyone had their garage door open or close randomly after doing this by any chance? I’ve had it do it twice now since doing this little trick and I’m hoping it’s something else causing it. It’s not the remote I’ve disconnected that ability.

  • @DisneyDan
    @DisneyDan5 ай бұрын

    Hey there! Yeah... having your door open by itself in the middle of the night, or whenever... would be a huge issue. In the 4 years I posted this, I've had nothing like that or heard of it. Many years ago I did find an issue with a neighbor who's garage door opener somehow opened mine a few times, accidently. Which seems impossible. I mean there's a bajillion code combos. Personally, I'd double check your wires from the door opener on your wall that you can press to open, or disconnect it. Then new batteries in the remotes, then be sure the remotes aren't in your pocket ;-) Another thing, you can set your garage door opener sensitivity AND where it ends up stopping, using a couple set screws on it. Look that up for your model. Maybe it's closing too hard into the floor, then opens itself for safety? Seems a stretch, but just another thing to test. Then ... maybe the sensors are defective? Take a week to completely disconnect the sensors and open and close manually (a pain, I know) and if it still does it, then there may be a sensor issue. check those wires as well of course. Then with the sensors, does any random light get into them? a window or garage light? Some have put electrical tape between the sensor eyes. Putting them together, then taping. One even used a toilet paper roll. :-) Good luck finding the issue! Dan B Carlsbad CA

    Luv it cut that crap out. This is The only real solution. Brand new $10,000 garage door and opener nothing but problems. Design just to give the installer unlimited service call money. One time a spider web blocked it but it's always something even the lights are green and it doesn't work. I did basically the same thing though I used a bar instead of tape with the bolts to kind of hold them down they make that plumbing tape or you can use I happen to have some electrical mounting brackets that fit perfectly but you know that thing on the back of car stereo with the holes in it to strap it to the body that works. Anything you can fabricate with holes with the exact spacing and it could be really sturdy and this is what I did. I hate these stupid sensors

    So sorry to hear this! I wish I had an answer for you, but I'm not a professional installer for these. I use duct tape and elbow grease to fix things. But that said, I had to point out the obvious but if your controller isn't working, maybe it needs new batteries? As well, but SURE nothing is in the way of your sensors and be sure they don't wiggle when you open your door.... be sure the screws are tight on the sensors. You may also want to clean the clear lenses on each. Good luck to you!

  • @DisneyDan

    Thank you all! I did this video 4 years ago and my sensors still work great! No snow, rain, cold, heat, sun, earthquakes.. or carelessness, will misalign them now. I HAVE TO CONFESS HOWEVER: the main reason I put the sensors up top is because I like to pull an Indiana Jones when I run out my garage door. I press the button in my garage and RUN... If the sensors are 6" off the floor, they catch the whip on my side and it ruins the entire experience! So with this, I can roll under the door... and I even have time to grab my fallen fedora at the last second! 😀😉😅

    Wouldn't the easiest solution have been to swap the side of the door the sensors are on? Receiver sensor is green LED light and goes in the shade. Sending sensor is yellow LED light and goes in the sun. Unless you have sunlight on both side of the sensors during different times of the day, and the sunlight is the issue, the problem is that the receiving sensor is in the sun. However, if you had swapped it to the other side, and the sending sensor was in the sun, the receiving sensor would not have been affected, and the problem would have been quickly solved. From page 16 of the installation instructions for the LiftMaster garage openers: "The units must be installed inside the garage so that the sending and receiving eyes face each other across the door, no more than 6" (15 cm) above the floor. Either can be installed on the left or right of the door as long as the sun never shines directly into the receiving eye lens." cgi.widen.net/view/pdf/zrqe2e5wlj/114a4248.pdf?t.download=true&u=8agqx6

    One of sensors was defective, as shown. Swapping them wouldn't help. :-) My biggest issue is that I hate aligning them and they misalign themselves too much (I believe we have ghosts here at my house!). For me personally, there's no reason for all the issues with these sensors. I mounted them up top as shown 4 years ago, and they still work perfectly every time. I've had no sun, heat, rain, snow, cold or ghost issues with them since. Thanks for watching!! .... and [insert safety disclosure here] stay safe! As said, I don't recommend doing it the way I did. Which works perfectly. For me, and others, who shouldn't do it. 😉 😁

  • @DisneyDan
    @DisneyDan10 ай бұрын

    Thank you and I know exactly why it didn't work. I had one defective sensor. I replaced them and it works perfectly. It may have looked like I had two green lights, but I didn't. The light was reflecting on the left one so it may have seemed that way. As well, it's NOT rigged up to omit the sensors. The sensors are connected. As for "code", that's for contractors doing the install. They are bound by regulations and codes. For me? I can do whatever I want in my own home. Stupid or not. IF I sell my home, then an inspector should ask to change it back, meanwhile, there's no code that doesn't allow me to do stupid installs in my own home. As for dangerous? For who? I can stand under the door and if it comes in contact with a cardboard box, it will back off because of the resistance. It's fine and works great. In my video I CLEARLY tell people to install the sensors the "correct" way. I did it the stupid way and it works great for ME. Have a nice day...
