    OMG! Why didn’t I watch this first, I’m new to CAD and am trying to wrap my head around it 🤬, this has cleared up many things and more, I’m trying to create a simple design (not for me so far)for an instrument panel so I can get some 3mm aluminium sheet cut to spec, thanks sooo much! 👍👍👍👍

    Great tutorial, helped alot One issue is that you didnt show how to transform the side part to match the bottom part when the depth of the tabs changed. True it doesn't make any difference in the cutting, for such a simple object. HOWEVER if u had, say a 4th board that connects the sides and bottoms (Ie., you design an enclosure) you would be screwed - because u didn't move the side to match the new bottom and the connection tabs for the 4th wall would be in wrong place (maybe now, even outside the actual model). I think u should of included that.

    Really great videos. Thank you. Just one question. When the pockets are not in the middle, but right on one side, I have to trimm the side, which leads to loss of several constraints - do I do something wrong?

  • @TorontotoollibraryIRBE
    @TorontotoollibraryIRBE8 ай бұрын

    Hey there! Most likely you would be losing a "vertical" or "horizontal" constraint when you use the trim tool. You see when you cut a line, the software makes a decision on which resulting line segment should get the constraint that used to be applied to the full line. So you may have to apply that constraint to the new section of line created by the trim. Also, you may need to apply vertical/horizontal to the points of your corners to ensure they stay aligned.

    I've been working with FreeCad for 3D print design for a few years and just started doing designs for laser cutting. This 3-part tutorial was exactly what I needed. I love the style of detailed explanation. There are a number of different how-to videos for such things but often they take things for granted and move so fast I have to pause it and try everything to see what I missed, but I could watch this and walk away ready to apply all of these techniques. One thing I'd like to see is a tutorial on working with text cutouts, both using stencil fonts and fonts that aren't designed for stencil. Also I am learning about some of the nuances of running complex jobs with both inner and outer cuts combined with engraving. What makes this series really valuable is that it reflects a LOT of experience condensed into a presentation that someone thought about how to present. Fantastic!

    Since I started 3D printings a few months ago, i've been watching dozens of FreeCAD tutorials but none of them was as clear and instructive as this 3 video series, and by far. I finally understood the practical purpose and use of "bodies", "clone", "sub-shape binder" and "draft workbench". Fantastic work, it should be much more promoted by YT.

    Excellent work. I'd like to stress that when you enter unit values in the spreadsheet, everyone should get in the habit ( as you do... and made me look twice ) of entering the units in the cells themselves i.e. "5 mm" vs. simply the value 5. Entering units in cells will oblige you to also enter units in formulas as well ( i.e. 70mm + Spreadsheet.MaterialThickness * 2 ) but it will solve all kinds of problems in the long run if you use multiple multiple unit systems ( metric vs imperial ) in your day to day designs. When you specify units in spreadsheet cells, the values will convert to the selected unit system and all your parametric formulas will recalculate correctly.

    Hi! I love your tutorials, they are so well said. So when you use the Shape 2D View and then make changes to the design (i.e. material width), you then have to repeat the whole process all over again? Thanks in advance!

  • @TorontotoollibraryIRBE
    @TorontotoollibraryIRBE Жыл бұрын

    Hey there! Yes, I'm afraid that is true. Shape2DView is not dynamic, so changes to the model do not automatically get updated in them.

    Awesome video! I've been following it step by step just to get the hand out of freecad. A newbie question: How can I bring the measurements on screen? When I apply the constraints they are not appearing.

  • @TorontotoollibraryIRBE
    @TorontotoollibraryIRBE Жыл бұрын

    Hey there! I think I understand. When you create constraints in the Sketcher workbench the measurements will be visible. But if you exit the sketcher workbench you will no longer see the dimensions. However, you can use the "dimension" tool you can measure between any two points and dimension will remain visible, even in other workbenches like Part Design. Also, if you want very good drawings with dimensions you can make use of the TechDraw workbench, which has excellent options for making full technical drawings.
