    Mantis Lords!! One of my favourite boss fights. And the mantises themselves <3 they’re so cool. Love the mutual respect through combat (and mantids overall are my second favourite bugs, after moths) Also you’re right that there was another charm seller you found earlier! It was Legeater, they’re the orange NPC icon you can see in the long vertical connection between Fungal Wastes and Forgotten Crossroads! As for the other locations you were unsure about but wanting to revisit: the banker was in Fog Canyon in the room right before the large stag station that leads to Fungal Wastes, and the entrance to Royal Waterways was on the lower level of City of Tears

    Glad you’re enjoying HK so much :D! I’m so happy I found this series, it’s such a good time here every weekend. I’ll have to check out your LoZ series sometime, I’ve got a fondness for those games but not much familiarity with the plot beyond BotW/TotK (which i’ve played) and Skyward Sword (the only other one i’ve watched a full playthrough for). Would totally be fun to experience more of the other games I’ve missed out on :)

    Longnail acquired! That one’s a staple of my charm loadout as a casual. It feels so nice to have that bit of extra range. Lots of new charms, love the aesthetic arrangement by the way :] I am always inclined to sort things by colour when given the opportunity. Palettes go brrrrr. I so agree about the Joni’s Blessing area. That room tells a story all by itself I’m imagining the little knight sprinting around Hallownest, utterly jingling and jangling with all the thousands of geos it’s got stashed away somewhere on its person X) I’ve been noticing that in the shop UI, the decorative border features a stylized face of the shopkeep that reacts when you spend geo, that’s such a fun touch Ahhh Myla,,,, glad to see her again, though it’s chilling to walk into that room and hear silence where she was once determinedly mining away

    It's fine if you don't end up switching charms. I NEVER went anywhere without Gathering Swarm, Compass, Thorns and Longnail. Those were my core charms! I only changed charms during specific end game situations that I will not get into! Also as meaningless as your charm organization is, I understand it cause I also HAVE to arrange them in a specific way. For me, I have to organize them in order as they appear on the inventory! XD

    Remember that you don't need to keep wayward compass on if you are fighting in a bossfight you know how to get to. Since you knew how do get to brooding mawlek, you could have switched out compass for thorns of agony, since they cost the same but thorns can be useful in a fight.

    In complete honesty I would highly not recommend the soul catcher charm For context, im going to explain how the soul bar works So the soul bar has a max of 99 soul (in the main bar) Each enemy gives 11 soul when hit Spells and heals cost 33 soul Soul catcher increases soul gained from enemies is increased by 3 to 14 So to gain another spell or heal you'd have to hit enemies another 11 times, when you hit max at 9 And the additional vessels only gain 6 per hit, increased to 8 with soul catcher A highly recommended charm is spell twister, as it decrease the cost of spells (not healing) from 33 to 24, allowing you to cast 4 spells on a full gauge

    Don't forget about Joni's Blessing in the future. While not required, it simplifies requirements to get a thing that is required to get anything beyond the basic ending. Which also means, if you come across something that seems like you may need that badge to acquire and want to see all endings, do not complete that bit before beating the game the first time (keeping in mind you just reload right before the boss after you beat the game, so then can get the thing and return for the next ending). If that is your plan, let me know and I can try and provide a bit more info on what each ending requires, keeping as vague as I can.

    Yay soul sanctum! I also love this area even if it is not the biggest one Soul master does trick people with his second phase but when he was breathing it was actually the game giving you time to heal. A lot of boss does that in their fight, Hornet for exemple, but if they receive damage when they pause they immediatly go back to attacking. A lot of boss also doesn't let you heal and it's best to use the soul for spell to end the fight quickly. Dive is real good in that case because it give you invincible frame when you land and it has a big area of damage. You saw the graveyard and the soul totem in the background and you didn't talk much of it but it mean that all soul totem in the game were created by sacrifying bug, so yea! Hallownest is kinda fucked up!

  • @leafar08
    @leafar086 күн бұрын

    Silksong (no NOT the game) also constantly damages bosses, so the staggered state can't be used as effectively. So having it equipped didn't really help with healing.

  • @squidplushy
    @squidplushy5 күн бұрын

    Ooooo I had not noted that all! Big kudos pointing that out for me, as it was I was trying to wait for more drawn out attacks to heal xD I'll be foregoing the little spider friends from this point onward, but they are adorable and served me well o7 That will help me to notice those windows in which the bosses get winded, though the panic might supercede my awareness LOL Also thanks on expanding on the soul statues and bugs in the background; I definitely considered the sacrifice required to research Soul, but had not connected those with the other areas. The hunger for Soul expanded beyond the Sanctum, yet another potential factor in the old kingdoms downfall? /thinkingcap What a phenomenally deep world they've built, holy crap xD

    I don't know if youtube's copyright detection would allow you to do it, but if you do make a training montage for the boss gauntlet it would be kinda funny if you dubbed 'eye of the tiger' over the montage. anyway apparently the reason why lanayru gives you the name 'ld-link-16' is because skyward sword is the sixteenth mainline zelda game, which is such a neat easter egg! and yeah the life tree fruit does look super juicy and tasty. personally I think it's an apricot, probably because my childhood home had an apricot tree in the backyard, so that's sorta my automatic stone fruit when I need to think of a fruit off the top of my head. anyway I wish you luck for... the lightning round! so glad that I get to tell you the excellent pun that the boss gauntlet has for its title

  • @squidplushy
    @squidplushy6 күн бұрын

    Ooo I do have some options, I'll definitely see if I can put something like that together, that would be really silly xD I love the LD-NAME-16 easter egg, a part of me is entertaining the idea of naming my future Links something like that; I also appreciate the Lightning pun, Lanayru definitely seems to be the type of deity that has that more festive, celebratory kinda of personality (especially after being cured! xD)

  • @Redboots
    @Redboots8 күн бұрын

    right!! yeah dowsing for those tadtones can be real helpful but if it wasn't for you I can see why that got cut. anyway those are peahats I think? and yeah, I have to agree, this revisit is quite clever in how it makes you use all the different items. it's pretty linear, but it still makes you stop and think about your next move even if you've played it ten times. anyway I think you'll probably want to make the lanayru song of the hero part and the boss gauntlet separate episodes, it'd be Really Long and have a lot cut out otherwise. speaking of the boss gauntlet, defo have an upgraded guardian potion and the potion medal in your pouch - I'll tell you this now because idk when you'll record doing the boss gauntlet, just to guarantee you have this information; you can't use pouch items whilst in the actual gauntlet. but if you use something like a stamina or guardian potion just before you talk to lanayru to enter the gauntlet, the effect will still carry through when you're in the gauntlet itself. it makes it a lot easier to get to the point of winning the shield

  • @squidplushy
    @squidplushy7 күн бұрын

    I am SO glad you mentioned not being able to access pouch items, if I missed it in game I would have absolutely just acquired the potions and started the gauntlet without using them xD I am really excited for the gauntlet, it's safe to say I think the combat with the motion controls has been the most outright fun I've had regarding them! I can't wait xD

  • @Redboots
    @Redboots9 күн бұрын

    nah, I genuinely think you had a gyro issue earlier. and if it's anything, you're not the worst at the controls, which doesn't mean it's not a struggle for you using them but you honestly could be having a much worse time, like me trying to figure out how to get my loftwing to go up with motion controls for four hours after I'd not played in a while. you're having fun and that's the main part, right? anyway I kinda like how much of a stubborn prick faron is. makes sense for a legendary dragon to be stuck up like that. however I think that there's actually more enemies after the flooding so her plan to flood the monsters out totally backfires. I personally used an air potion for the tadtones, but it looks like you were perfectly fine without that. however you really should've talked to the kikwi elder, because awkward timing aside (you really should've been able to speak to him just after those fish appear), he gives you the option to dowse for the remaining tadtones and it can be really useful especially for the last few single ones! and if you like how bass-y the water dragon sounds, the other dragons are even MORE so anyway when you're doing your cleanup of the faron region keep an eye out for any bugs that are ingredients for upgraded stamina, heart and guardian potions. I don't know off the top of my head if those bugs are in the faron region, but I personally would recommend having a stock of bugs for one upgraded stamina potion, one or two double-upgraded heart potions, and between one and three upgraded guardian potions - this particular one I think would be useful the soonest, as it combined with the potion medal is great for the upcoming (optional, it's not one of the song of the hero challenges) boss gauntlet, but it's expensive so idk if you'd want to use more than just one or two for the gauntlet (which I keep wanting to say the name of because it's such a good pun but idk if you want that sorta spoiler!)

  • @squidplushy
    @squidplushy8 күн бұрын

    Aye, I'm definitely having fun with everything the game has offered; honestly it's not that far off from the level to which I've enjoyed BotW or TotK - they also had very small, petty things that would get me in the moments, but never affect my overall opinions of either. And whenever I'm talking about the objective filler aspects, it is important that I keep in mind the development process and what difficulties they might have faced. It would be foolish to say they didn't care about Skyward Sword, because it does have a ton of heart put into it, and many small details that are easily missed if the time to notice them isn't taken. Duly noted on each suggestion as well, I've decided to compile that and the other things we will want to knock out in order to get them done in a fun, back-to-back way coming up! :D Considering there are still quite a handful of goddess cubes and heart pieces, as well as finishing up the other side quests, I'm excited to get that nice bow wrapped around it all!

Yeah I can respect it That stuck corpse bug at 1:08:50 is delightful and I love them <3 the futile lil skittering is so endearing. beloved failbug, go girl give us nothing! (/ref) This series has inspired me to pick up Hollow Knight again :)! I'm very familiar with the game and have watched a LOT of hours of youtube vids about it consistently, but I actually only have done one playthrough a couple years ago. I had 48 hours in the game and 101% progress but I kind of never got around to completing an ending. Wanted to go for as much completion as i could before taking on the final challenge, but I got stuck on an optional very late-game and very VERY difficult boss (to be scant on details, NKG, if you know you know), and there's a couple other difficult things I didn't manage. It's been about 2+ years now but I've still got the save, so I took a crack at that one boss fight again! And I haven't succeeded yet (nor gotten very far in the fight at all) but I've made progress in just the hour or so I put into it today, I feel like I'm slowly learning the strats :]! I'll get there eventually and it'll feel so great, and then I'll have to set my sights on one of the other many remaining challenges in this game lol

Those constantly spawning crawly bugs really keep up the pressure, but at least their emergence is well telegraphed with the consistent noise they make. Big fan of the darkness effect and how light sources look at a distance. Seems none of the npcs are too fond of this place, with poor Cornifer cowering in the corner! Good to see Cloth again, she's one of my most favourites. And of course, Zote's found himself in a pickle again. Hang in there, lil buddy 👍

    I hope to the elder ghost bugs that I can save him before he becomes spider food xD The atmosphere of Deepnest hit me immediately too! Everything about the composition was so peak, it will never stop fascinating me how attentative to detail and deliberate their design choices were; a properly tense and dread inducing atmosphere can be incredibly difficult to pull off but they keep managing to amaze me. I absolutely LOVED falling into it like I did, such a good set piece *chefs kiss*

    Howling Cliffs is such an atmospheric area (i say this as though it's not true of every region in the game lol). Cyclone slash is cool! I always forgot abt it and so didn't utilize it effectively in my first playthrough, but I believe it does a little additional damage (1.25x nail damage) as well as allowing multiple hits (on either multiple enemies or on the same enemy), and apparently mashing the attack button can extend the duration. So that may be what you noticed with the length being variable. The drawback is you can't move quick while slashing so faster enemies can get out of range or get a hit on you once you've committed to the slash for its duration and are vulnerable

    I absolutely love that it's essentially an inspired charge attack akin to its metroidvania inspirations. I'm wondering if I could manage a playstyle that incorporates it more frequently, I'd love to get that extra oomph out of it xD

    There's just no way I couldn't, not with how Team Cherry has hit ALL the right notes so far in HK! They've quickly become among my top favorite development studios xD

  • @tala_icaronycteris

    @@squidplushy The joke is just that Silksong was publicly announced years ago (2019 i think?) and the community's been waiting not-so patiently and memeing about it ever since. There's been a couple miscommunications about Silksong being ready or at least close to release in the past couple years, with some reported release dates and a polished non-public demo that gave folks false hope, but it hasn't come to pass. Team Cherry's been pretty hush on the details of development, if I understand correctly I think they themselves haven't had an online presence while they're deep in development and instead have a guy who every once in a while just reconfirms it's still in the works. I wouldn't claim that it's in dev hell (not yet at least), but the scope of the game is very ambitious and it's still cooking. I wouldn't worry about having to hurry and beat Hollow Knight so you can play Silksong on release, I'm sure there's a long while to go yet before we see a reliable release date haha. Something to look forward to for sure, though!

    Kudos for the added context! :3 I remember skimming over a bit of ire regarding its uncertain release date, it's good to know they are taking their time with it; the amount of intricacy and polish so far in HK has been on such a high level, I imagine it's not only a challenge in and of itself, but since becoming such a big hit I imagine they're feeling the added pressure to present a high quality product that everyone is hoping for. Definitely better they take their time to ensure that quality (plus it gives me more time to enjoy HK xD)

    one of the best details that you get if you've seen the story or played this game before is right when you first enter the sealed temple, you can go to the door and look through the crack in it to see zelda encased in the crystal. it's so cool to see that! and just keep groose's sapling idea in the back of your mind. it's along the main story path, so you won't miss it even if you're not doing any sidequests. anyway it's my personal headcanon that thunderheads like that pop up a lot in skyloft, so the appearance of that one wasn't too unusual, but it's the nature of it that is. and I genuinely cannot wait to see your reaction when the song of the hero is put together. it is a fitting choice to be the song of the hero, let's just say. there aren't any dungeons in the song of the hero section of the game, more... overworld challenges, I'll call them, which is obvious padding, although I kinda think that they're fun sections despite that, and then the final dungeon is really cool too. but now you've beaten bilocyte, go back to the island you struggle to get the goddess cube on that you said looks a bit like a castle, and then go speak to beedle. I think that's how you trigger that quest. so you're nearly there at getting that heart piece!!

  • @squidplushy
    @squidplushy13 күн бұрын

    Speaking honestly, even though the between-dungeon sequences have that fillery feel, only two off the top of my head stand out as gratuitous (getting the water from the first dungeon + the dead end looking for the sea chart); the others have been quite fun, I'm looking forward to the next bits knowing what to expect now :D I'm really excited to get to the Beedle quest too, we will start that up immediately next time!

  • @Redboots
    @Redboots13 күн бұрын

    @@squidplushy the upcoming filler bits are a lot more involved and I can see you getting frustrated on them, especially the faron one (because you can do them in any order, which resulted in an infamous glitch that ruined save files in the wii version), but they can be quite fun nonetheless! especially since it's either a new area altogether or makes an area you've previously been to change drastically if only temporarily

  • @squidplushy
    @squidplushy13 күн бұрын

    Oh no, I'm glad that didn't happen to me way back in the day xD I can't imagine how I'd go about losing an entire save like that, my heart goes out to those who had that happen to them! I do appreciate the heads up for what's ahead too, I'm thinking having that foresight will offer me a more realistic pretense going in, so maybe the filler feel won't be toooooo bad xD Added note, I am weirdly rigid with my save files and prefer to keep only one per playthrough, soooo losing saves is a subtle but constant fear /cry

  • @Redboots

    @@squidplushy oh yeah losing saves is a terrifying prospect, and also really frustrating when it does happen. I lost part of my oot save and not knowing exactly what I lost is super annoying. do I have to do dampe's gravedigging minigame again? I don't know!

  • @squidplushy
    @squidplushy11 күн бұрын

    Omg Dampe's minigames, those have to be among the worst points around which to lose progress ;w; OoT and MM have a ton of long quest chains too, I could see that being incredibly disheartening (it reminds me of losing the footage for the Hyrule Castle/Lynel gauntlet in TotK xD)

  • @Redboots
    @Redboots15 күн бұрын

    that island that you were looking for that first goddess cube chest on is instrumental to the beedle sidequest, which I will hint that completing that sidequest will make it a lot easier to get that piece of heart. also 'demise' is pronounced as 'dem-eye-s', which is a bit funny to type out because it reads as 'dem eyes', which tbh could describe link's eyes as zelda seals herself away lmao. and yeah. that scene is moving. I don't normally get so devastated by emotional scenes like that but after going through possibly the worst week of my life, which is saying something, I saw this scene after I had to try my best to get back into everything, and it wrecked me! just one of those things where the surrounding context changed how I reacted to one of the greatest scenes in the series, imo. you CAN indeed go back into the present and go back to the sky, in fact you need to to progress; once you've done that and the following boss (which is quite cool!!) that's when the change happens to a certain area of the sky and when a bunch of sidequests open up, so I personally would do that little bit of the story, just so the next major part of the story opens up, and then start sidequesting.

  • @squidplushy
    @squidplushy14 күн бұрын

    The biggest factor in whether or not a scene can hit emotionally for me is its composition; music, cinematography, pretense, and writing. If one of those things are missing are don't feel quite as deliberate, scenes can use a lot of their impact. Zelda's Lullaby, while the obvious choice, felt appropriately scored to match the scene in which it's featured. A notable scene that is similar from Tears of the Kingdom is the memory in which we "see" the Imprisoning War (keeping the specificity loose to avoid anyone potentially being spoiled reading this xD) The moment that music cue occurs and we hear the crescendo, literal goosebumps! And I can appreciate so much the impact it had on your personal goings on; I think I've mentioned it before and prolly will many times, one of the greatest things I love about storytelling is its potential to resonate on deeper levels in so many different ways with so many individuals. I am happy you found it at such a pivotal moment in life, and seemed to have bounced back (tho personal experience tells me its an ongoing struggle of course ;w;) Admittedly, playing through it even today has had moments of me self-reflecting on when i played it so long ago. So many small things I completely missed xD
