As a pilot and aircraft mechanic working in southern California I share my daily activities in a video format. Expect to see troubleshooting of aircraft systems, flying throughout the state to work on aircraft, and my leisure travels both domestically and abroad.

Thank you for this content! I fly them, bit seriously appreciate learning more about the aircraft I fly
Watching your videos at Surf made me want to be an A&P, got my tickets in a year, worked on Gulfstreams for a while and just got my dream gig working heavy maintenance on Eurocopters and Bells. Thanks for making these videos, man. Changed my life
Hey James! Started watching your videos when I was starting on the field years ago. I miss them! Where have you been? Hope you are OK. -Fábio, Brazil
Now that I’ve been working in aviation, coming back to watch these videos I understand everything😂
Good walk through on the engine side. My J3-65 goes thru almost the exact process. None of the hangar rats in my neck of the woods has a spark tester. Usually hold against the case and someone spins the prop to see spark... I didn't know a plug firing is a bit more difficult when under say 80 psi. Would be a nice gadget to add to the tool box / work bench.
No tests for diagnostic tests, just keep swapping parts out until you get the problem gone!😮
Are you still working at surf air?
tool control?

This is so cool. Thank you for sharing this James, I really admire you bro. I’m trying to obtain an information packet from a college near me to learn more about becoming an Aircraft Mechanic. I know a couple of things because of you, but I’ve never worked with tools in my life... But I know I have finesse and the willingness to learn so I think I could really have a shot at this. With all that being said, I have a couple questions. Were you in a similar situation to me, or were you already experienced somehow before attending the college program? I guess what I’m really asking is, does college teach you everything? I just don’t want to be that guy who’s unprepared lol.
Hey James, have you ever had to use math further than basic adding, subtracting, dividing, and multiplying?
13:11 😂😂😂
I really admire you man. I really think I might go do an apprenticeship somewhere bro, because of you. Really wish you’d come back, this content feels like the life we all want to live, but just don’t know how to go about it. Also, I’d really like to talk to you somehow if I could, to get a better understanding of the path you took. Thanks, Gavin.
Hey James. So, I’m looking into possibly being an A&P mechanic, but I have a problem which I think you might be able to help me with. How did you know for sure that being an A&P mechanic is what you really wanted to do? I’m afraid to put in $15k for education and then realize that it isn’t my calling.
O, so you are in Cal-a-For-ney-A. There is a 100% chance you are a Liberal :)
Hy is there any Master's program related to this field? I've completed bachelor's in physics , so Chooing a bachelor will lead to visa rejection
Rewatching all your travel videos after all these years. I hope you both go on another adventure and take us with you
SN 558 an old bird. I perfer working the Legacy birds
did this cost more than 3K?
thumbs up on that quick drain fitting plug. =)
upload, upload, upload! Lets start a comment chain!
My younger brother is a major fan of that car. Drove the wheels off of two of them, good investment.
Yaaa. There is a tool for that 😅😅. Way too tight. That’s what torque wrenches are for. Yes, I would rather have smaller light aircraft enginework videos. Its what I want to do after I retire.
I want to do this job so bad, but I'm pretty damn stupid lol. Got through highschool and college was hell.
these are my comfort videos

James! I just thought I’d let you know I start my AP school in a week and I’ve been watching all your videos learning all sorts of stuff! Thank you much for putting these out, and I’m hoping you’ll start producing content again!

Why did you stop making Surfair videos? Everyone on KZread that had anything to do with Surfair hasn’t had anything new in years. What’s the deal? I’m going thru the training signing on as a pilot to Surfair as we speak. Would like to see the operation before I get there.
