A, I, O, U in Black Speech sounds exactly like the vowels in Brazilian Portuguese. As a variant from vulgar latin, arab and, maybe old italian? Interesting. Also, for me it looks way more easier to pronouce than german, for example.

There are two most common Elvish languages: Quenya and Sindarin. So we need to learn some basic Finnish and Welsh first.

So my name is Samuel, which means God has heard. I came up with imînlastaion. There is no direct word for God, so I did I man, which means The One. I changed it fron heard to listen, being lasta. I added the suffix -on to show it is a masculine name. Does this work?

"Mar bedithach" would obviously be *Mar badathog* in more correct Sindarin, in light of Parma Eldalamberon #17 and the future verb *cawathon* revealed in Parma Eldalamberon #22.

I doubt we will see Elvish on Duolingo anytime soon. Here on KZread, I will however present some videos about Quenya, the most highly-developed form of Tolkienian Elvish. The introductory episode is entirely IN Quenya, with subtitles: kzread.info/dash/bejne/daCcr7Z7n6faerQ.html

We shouldn't choose between Galadriel and Legolas. We should choose between Finnish ethnicity and Celtic ethnicity - when choosing between Quenya and Sindarin. For real life both national branches are actual, Quenya is not kind of dead language. More than that, there are more Finno-Ugric actual speakers and Finnish, Estonian, Hungarian have status of self confident state language. No Celtic language has such a success of survival. If you have Celtic roots, you likely should learn Sindarin, if Finno-Ugric - Quenya. That's how this world should be elfinized!

It just bears remembering that in light of Tolkien's notes from the 1960's (published in _Parma Eldalamberon_ #22) one ought to use Sindarin future forms like *carathon* "I shall do (it)" instead of "cerithon" (the old reconstruction theory promoted at sites like Ardalambion).

Regarding *hantanyel órenyallo* "I thank you from my heart": It is also possible to say *hantan lyen órenyallo* or, less often, *hantanyë lyen órenyallo* "I thank to you from my heart" - only using the pronominal ending (which is attatched to the verb) for the subject, "I", either in its short form, *-n,* or in its long/full form, *-nyë,* and using the independend pronoun for the object, *lyë* "you" (rather than the pronominal ending *-lyë* ) because it is inflected in the dative case, *lyen* "to you". And, since word order in Quenya is quite free (because it is a highly inflected language), we can also say *órenyallo hantanyel* or *órenyallo hantan(yë) lyen* or *lyen hantan(yë) órenyallo* or *lyen órenyallo hantan(yë)* , ... However, the current understanding is that pronominal endings are only used for the 3rd person. So, *hantanyel* "I thank you" would probably not occur in Quenya. We would only have *hantan(yë) lyë* "I thank you" or *hantan(yë) lyen* "I thank to you" (with dative "you"). Again, different word orders can be used.
