Single Mom Budgeting

Single Mom Budgeting

Hi! My name is Tiffany and I’m the owner/face behind Straight off the Hook. I’ve always wanted a place to share the items that I make, and after years of letting fear take over, I’m finally starting to put myself out there! I’m a single mom of 2 and this has been a source of added income, in a time of need.

Thank you for being here and for your continued support ❤️

The hardest part is building that first $1000 while paying current bills.. and it’s not that you can’t it just depends on income and your monthly bills this is where a lot of single moms are stuck.. they may not be able to generate other income.. they could be low income.. But the catch is you have to know what’s low income and what’s considered poverty level there is a difference .. you have people actually living on less then 15k a year now… In my area minimum wage is still $7.25 hr..and the welfare assistance cuts you if you try to better yourself.. millions are stuck…. It’s a sad reality and it’s only going to get worse.. I’m disabled from birth I live on survivor benefits and can’t get welfare this is so hard but ..I did save my emergency fund .. it took me a year.. but the key was keeping a buffer in my bill account.. I’ll be the first to tell all do not put anything you want to save in a regular bank.. open a high yield acct so you won’t have easy excess and collect the interest .. this may be a extra $30-40 at the end of the year..

I love that you're doing this. So many moms and dads who are raising their child(ren) alone and on a budget, feel stuck, not believing they could save after paying bills, etc.

Don't need a lot of the stuff you bought in the video. Could save more money by switching/leaving it. But I get it, we all wanna live not just exist.

I'm a fan of cancelling a card that's got a maintenance fee. Yes there's negative impacts (potentially) but $35-100/year for a card is bogus nonsense. Some cards want you to pay an annual fee and a monthly fee in addition to that. No ma'am, not for me.

  • @peachygal8856

I agree. I have a Credit One CC that has a monthly maintenance fee that comes to just over $70.00 / year. As soon as I pay the balance off, I plan to close it!

Honestly, closing a card doesn't lower the score by much. Not enough to make a difference in approval for anything, anyway.

$59 a month in food stamps. Baby, I’ve worked 2 jobs and have only gone up to get to where I’m at. Where were you a year ago when I had $170. Or 2 years before, when I received $245. I’ve used it as it’s meant to be used - to help provide for my kids while I continuing working hard to improve my situation
