  Because we are taught that “real love” is what she describes in the chorus… every movie every book describes love like that… as kids we are taught that a boy only hurts us because he loves us… we’re domed! I had one of those perfect boys. He’s the one who got away and I regret it every day! Actually talked about him with my sister yesterday. I’m 42 now and it was a lifetime ago. But I will probably regret that for the rest of my life (And believe me, you can make it exiting and fun with a perfect man too 😊)

  Super interesting because i think of this song as though she's singing about someone who's very beautiful and that's why they're a reason for all the gold rush and she doesn't like that this person that she loves is getting all the competing attention.   Starting fights like this comes from insecurity. Needing confirmation, affirmation and feeling secure. You start a fight because you want your partner to say, I love you, don’t go, I want you. And then you can feel a bit more secure, at ease. Taylor talks about doing things like this in several songs trough her discography. I’m guessing this is a insecurity she’s been dealing with for most of her life. And I would be surprised if it stems from the bullying she endorsed and the way that effected her self esteem and self worth. (And of course got even more reinforced when she dated John Mayer and Jake Gyllenhaal 2 relationships that seems to have been very toxic and perhaps even abusive)

  She was bullied for her being herself, for her music and her dreams about becoming a singer. People are bullied for a numerous of things… often it’s because you’re different (don’t fit the mold) I was bullied during most of my school years. The scars are permanent!

  this is so cute 😭 the way i interpret “honey when i’m above the trees i see this for what it is” as her looking at the situation but not being in it, like watching other relationships end and seeing that they will still have happiness afterwards but “now she’s right down in it” and having to almost convince herself that she’ll be happy again too

  For me I interpret above the trees as in the forest metaphor from Out Of The Woods, that makes sense right? Like only when I'm looking down at that big patch of forest that I got out of, I see things for what it is and no longer clouded by fury or whatever mindset I had during that time
