Such a wonderful channel. I'm switching careers this year from electronics engineering to Audio recording. I've been recording as a hobby for a while but have never been confident in recording or mixing. Just started last week really trying to build my skill set. Your channel is extremely inspiring. In my early 50's and trying to make the best of it. Cheers.
Thank you. That's why I do it. It's all for you. This next month is going to be awesome. Mixing and Mastering. Stay tuned!

Donny’s the man!!
🔥
Thanks for that. July is MIX and MASTER Month. Get ready for more analog goodness!
Interesting, the video for me sounds like if some kind of noise reduction would have killed the sound of the compressor
I agree. I feel like I should do an independent review of the 166. Give it some real trials. I was trying to stay consistent with the format of the series. I'll try to get to that in August. Right after Mixing and mastering month in July. Stay tuned!
great video thank you
Thanks. Happy to help. And yes. I plan to update this soon as Pro Tools is always updating and getting better. Stay tuned!
Analog sounds Awesome! :)

A touch of eq on the vocals on this video would have been great lol
The editor does use a bit of compression on the two bus before outputting the video for KZread. Other than that, it's raw!
@@learnprorecording I can tell... It's a bit piercing lol
@@AetherScout Got it. Thanks for the input.
It's not just me is it? There's something there in the highs that's a bit in ya ear?
what’s up db! 🙌🏼
Great Info for any Studio! :)

Charisma also like Gold Mike both does not have audio transformers with shame for that kind price. In my eyer Charisma give fuzzy saturation and it have opamp with you can change for different opamp for some new sounding flavor. But you will need specific tool for that job otherwise you can easily do unwanted damage. I personally prefer OTL tube preamp for transparency some bad or cheap audio transformers can make you sound muddy.
You can buy audio transformers as separate unit or use step up transformers these boys you can find from charges or power transformers from hi-fi or other electronic equipment.
Also one big mistake about so called warm tube sound will nothing to do with tubes itself it's audio output transformers they do most job to production warm tube sound. I was idiot by myself long time when I was audiophile and believed all this nonsense about this warm tube sound.
I love the workflow of an analog console and it doesn’t have to be crazy expensive to start with. I’m slowly expanding my gear. It has its advantages and limitations but definitely worth trying out.
Thanks. You are correct! I am covering the consoles starting next week. Don't miss the next few episodes.
Learn something New every time! Thanks! :)

Was never a fan of the LA-4s. Had a pair, sold em years ago. Theyre definitely no 2A, even 3A but since theyre relatively cheap, there's worst options out there haha. Enjoy em!
I agree. These are not my favorite compressors. I do like the "Vintage" look of them in my rack. And sometimes the flavor works. I still like them better than my CL1b. Thanks for watching.

dose anyone know DIFF BETWEEN ERIS 3.5 gen 1 and gen 2?
*Yes of course@! Because it is a DYNAMIC EFFECT and not a modulation effect you must run it direct and not via the aux, because of the AD/DA conversion into the unit will cause latency IF you run it on the aux.*
The hardware sounds light years better.
Perfect for Podcasts! :)
This was our grandfather's Tube-Tech CL1B. It's also what inspired the CL 1B.
I actually prefer these over the CL1B - (For some things)

For some reason no matter what i do the levels on the master track never even gets yellow but the VU meter starts clipping when i start using other plugins, like limiter, compressor etc.
Just because the meter is hitting red in Pro Tools doesn't necessarily mean you're clipping. How does it sound? Does your mix sound clipped? Your limiter's job is to keep things from going above the "ceiling" that you set. So you should not be seeing red (no pun). But let us know how it sounds.
@@learnprorecording thanks for your reply, I’ll check the things you mentioned. But if the meter is all the way on red and the sound is still fine then what’s the purpose of using the meter?
@@Joseph124269 It kind of depends upon the meter. Which meter are you using on the master bus? I use the meter to keep things consistent and up to par with other songs in the genre I might be working on.
@@learnprorecording I am using the Wave Audio basic vu meter, it looks just like yours. When I looked at your master track the levels on it are on solid yellow and the levels on the vu meter weren’t even half way. The audio clip which I inserted, the meter shows about 10-11 (without using any plugins) but when I start adding plugins the vu jumps super high but the master track levels are still low.
@@Joseph124269 Can you try another meter? You might try the Waves WLM Meter. I'm not sure of the Waves VU. The one I'm using is by Klanghelm. Or even the stock Pro Tools meter might work.
