I LOVE vintage weights. I don't know everything about them, but I want to learn. I film reviews, tutorials, and projects as a learning experience. Hopefully, you can learn from my adventures and mistakes, which is why I include them in the videos. If you ever want to share some of your vintage weights, please send me an email or contact me on Instagram.

My pleasure
Are those the speedlock collars you recently featured? Also, noticed what appeared to be the bored 50lb plates. In your experience, when York bored 50s, 75s and 100s, how much weight did the plate lose? Round about, what would you typically expect to pay for speedlock collars from York?
I think these speed locks may have been Champs. They copied York. And as for weight loss on bored standard plates. None. York standards were using a bit overweight haha.
I have a weider 45 I cannot lift it for the life of me
If it’s the narrow 1” thick plate, yes, very difficult. The deep dish aren’t too tough.
York still makes and sells these as "Olympic Speed Collars" with sku #36042. The bolt is different than the vintage version but otherwise the main black portion looks identical to me including the York lettering and its size. I'd prefer the vintage version but due to difficulty finding them, I purchased the modern version.
I’ve see that. I’ll drop a link below if any viewers want to check them out. You’re right. The bolt is different. I wonder if the dimensions and weight are the same. Are they 5.5 lbs each? yorkbarbell.com/product/2-inch-olympic-speed-collars-black-pair/
@@vintageweightspgh yes they weigh 5.5 lbs each. I also use them as light dumbbells for rotator cuff warm-ups :)
Saw an April 4, 2024 gym tour and amazed to see Tanner found those ever elusive eighties to hundos. As for that pair of 9s on eBay...I saw them too and kicked myself for not buying them at $350 when I saw the final price. HOLY SMOKES!
They go high!
Now those are solid collars. They make my collars look like toys 😂
They’re huge haha. I like them a lot.
This is one spot where I think Ivanko made them better. Their big-ass collars (tm) have a small piece of sheet steel inside the collar that the bolt twists against so that the bolt never touches the collar. You can crank on those collars as hard as you want without worry of leaving a mark.
Agree. I’ve yet to have them, but I’ve seen them enough to appreciate the design. I’d love to find the brass COX.
@@vintageweightspgh Wouldn't we all! Their "trainer" collars are the same with that interior steel bit, so I basically use them as part of my change plate setup. They come in 2.5lb and 5lb pairs, then you've got the 2.5KG comp ones. If my wife wouldn't string me up, I'd love to switch to the chrome pair instead of the painted ones I have, but I bought the painted to math the old standard bar collars I have (got an old B-86 with the inner and outer collars from the same time line). Watching the LHLE live stream at the moment and it looks like they have a set of each of the Ivankos on their Squat platforms.
They look big and beefy
100%
I'm a longtime sub to your channel. I enjoy your videos, You have taught me how to restore old plates and dumbbells and for that I am sincerely Thankful. I wonder if you buy new stuff or just use what you collect, not counting your power rack and bench of course. For example would you buy one of REP's new barbells, the new Repin adj. dumbbells, expensive weight plates, a new functional trainer or do you like to train with vintage stuff. What type of training do you perform. Is there a certain type of training you prefer How do you feel about cardio, is it helpful or worthless in your opinion I'd like to see a video by you answering these questions and add any info about your training and nutrition beliefs. You seem like a Real Good Guy and I'm interested in what you think about training and nutrition. Thnkx Man
Hi, Bobby. What a wonderful comment. Thanks for the kind words. I’ll come back to it tonight and write a better response to answer all the questions.
@@vintageweightspgh Appreciate it!!
Those speed lock collars looks like a machine shop could copy them pretty easily but that heavy wall pipe may be hard to find. Great video!
Thanks so much!
Those collars are cool. I would love to find a set of those, yours look like new in the video.
They were rusty to begin with. Since they’re cast iron, they clean up very easily.
I have that set as home that I bought at a yard sale last year. Not as rusty as yours with one wing nut broken. Soaked the collar's in kerosene but for some reason the previous owner covered the bar in red tape. Hope you do a follow up video on the before and after results of this rusty set. Thanks!
I definitely will make a video!
It's junk if you ask me but for a collection and not for use hey why not
To each their own
Wow things were getting serious when the shoes come off and the socks stay on! 💪
I wondered if anyone would notice. 😂 I’d finished filming and was pissed I didn’t get even the 35. So I went back and tried an assisted lift with it (in my socks).
@@vintageweightspgh I notice EVERYTHING lol. I especially have to attempt to keep quiet every time I see "grown men" posting it the groups wearing Crocs 😅. I hate Crocs 🤢
i have the abmat preacher pad, its a great buy. never heard of that bar, looks cool though. do you like arthur jones?
Jones is fascinating. I wish I had room for some Nautilus machines!
Can we get a tutorial on that reverse hyper?????
Hey boss where did you get that yea buddy light, lift, huge life banner thanks!
That's a Massenomics banner, unfortunately they don't make that banner any more but they have some of those beer parodies and more as t shirts!
My first bench was just like that, It was a Weider and I got it in 1985 I was only 12 😂
That’s so cool!
Did you paint your crossmembers , and if so what type of paint.
I painted the cross members (and j-hooks) by scuffing the powder coat with sandpaper (something like 60-100 grit), then using a metal primer spray paint, and then the orange is a enamel spray paint 2-3 coats. It's fairly durable but still gets scuffed up in the gym.
@kevin_rsg_18 thank you
Great tour thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for watching!
Those raw finished ones are sweet!
I’m using them a lot!
Yep...😂‼️
Always good to meet another gripster!

Awesome gym tour! I love all the DIY pieces. That fold away reverse hyper is better than anything I’ve seen on the market!
I loved that too!
You got a waxed jackson the real.
Yep!
Only certain people can see the beauty in those weights and I'm sure all the subscribers to this channel can and are jealous like I am !
I’m happy to put them to use this week!
@@vintageweightspgh I have a set of York Bun dumbbells that are blue. Did York paint them blue or a previous owner before me and do you have a video on these.
Why does it being milled matter compared to other plates, what’s the benefit if any? My plates are just regular cast iron
The purpose was to bring the weights into tolerance (make them accurate weight), but many people also appreciate how cool it looks.
I love this basement gym, except for the Browns stuff. Anyone rocking York plates is okay in my book. I really love his DIY stuff, so well done and convenient.
Agree on all points. Love the DIY. Love the milled Yorks. Go Steelers!
So the old/vintage plates & globes can still be found around can they?
For sure. Most of my weight plates are older deep dish. All of my dumbbells are older buns and globes. York Roundhead dumbbells are a great entry point. Here’s a short video I made about them. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iKynxpiuaMmaYMY.htmlsi=5EkPe4oO_mOYz6x3
I love the idea of passing on the plates. I have some vintage Yorks, Dan Luries, etc. that my FIL gave me. He has collected the plates from the time he was in high school in the 60s up through the 80s. Now it's our turn to use them.
Me too! That’s cool that your FIL passed those on to you. My biggest desire with vintage weights is for them to be used! I love seeing people lift the weights!
Why does this look like a green screen?
Kevin and I are actually weathermen.
The shorts in this video are top notch
I’m wearing vintage gen1 Lift Shorts. I’m still searching for the gen2 cutoff sweat pant looking version.
@@vintageweightspgh I too am a proud Gen one owner. Truly timeless
I dropped one of my sports authority 45 pound plates. Right were the hole is their is a clip now. I threw away the piece that broke. I know I can use JB Weld to glue it back. Though what can i use to fill in the hole where the clip is now? Thank you
I’d just use JB weld to fill it in
@@vintageweightspgh that wont effect if the plate may weigh less or will the jb weld fix that?
Love that flip out coffee table on the back of the rack!
It’s not the safest place to put your drink, but no worries, Kevin has >2 Drink Spotters on duty.
The Home Gym Director of Safety unfortunately does not approve of the primitive drink spotter
I approve of this basement.
The Caller Dweller Society President weighs in!
Big basement guys
Thanks Brandon!
I would say that spring loaded crusher is at least 50 years old. I recall seeing them in old muscle magazines. I lived in Cleveland in the 70's and had friends who had dark dingy basement gyms full of old iron weights, best gyms ever!
I’ll eventually do a video about the crusher. I have lots of old strength and health magazines with ads and articles about it for reference. That’s cool that you were in Cleveland for a bit!
@@vintageweightspgh I also lived in Steubenville Ohio which is 99% Steelers fans & I recall John Kolb having the best basement gym in Pittsburgh, he was a Steelers great probably way before your time.
@@johnkelley6278 John Kolb competed in World's Strongest Man and if I recall, he won all the grip challenges.
@@irongeek7933 Being a lifelong Browns fan I have a hatred for the Steelers but Kolb, Green, Bradshaw and that whole team were great.
@@vintageweightspgh looking forward to that crusher video!
Big Basement Gym Guys!

Great set up in this homegym, and very fun to watch you both on this tour!
Thanks! I especially liked Kevin’s DIY projects. Great stuff!
Why isn't kevin holding any pizzas

We'll add a trip to Ohio Pie Co next time Rob is out - I owe him a slice for closing that gripper anyways!
I'm hoping he brings some to WNESD next week
Take a Lap!
Go Steelers

The only rust that looks great is on newly found classic weight plates!
Yes!
Thanks Rob!
