    Great episode! I have a knee-jerk reaction to pushback against capitalism for the reasons you point out (seeing the discrepancy between rich and poor) but Mr. Norberg makes a great argument for capitalism here. And yes, ultimately, given our government (and those around the world) I wonder how many of these anti-captitalist (pro-socialist) protesters would feel comfortable giving so much power to their respective government.

    I haven't been in a Walmart in probably over 8yrs, and I own hundreds of shares of WMT. If I had to work there and they offered to pay my entire check in WMT stock I'd say abso-fukin-loutley. Company makes good profit margins, provides a healthy dividend, has only gone up over the long term. I hope people become more educated about financial options available to them in this coming strain that is weighing on our economy, stock options offered by mega billion $ companies are nothing to be ignored.

    Yes, she had two little girls when she was 19 years old. This makes the story more remarkable. Where else, if not the U.S. a woman, with no college education, and two little girls, can raise the corporate ladder to be at a high level management position. This is a great opportunity.

  • @stanlevox2291

    Time is context. At $6.25 an hour that must of been decades ago. So to move up the corporate ladder after 20 years makes sense. Aside with the people whomnhave been with the company for years they've not been placed at such a position. Not sure why this popped up in my feed but kinda misleading. Not sure what state and time frame has 6.25 an hour and there's plenty of employees at Walmart that have been in the dame position years upon years and walmsrt busts unions all the time with lots of legal battles.

    Great video! This past week I was laid off suddenly from my job. Told to pack up my things and go that morning (when we have to give 2 week notices). I've decided to just work part-time nearby and use that extra time to develop my business. I am blessed enough to live with my family and the part-time job can pay for my phone bill, pocket money, and materials for my business. I never want to be in that position again- where someone else can decide to cut off my income source suddenly. This topic really resonated with me at this time of my life :)

    I’m sure before you got the tattoos on your face you thought long and hard about the job situation and how a potential employer may see you based on that. Seeing in fact you did get the tattoos, means there were potential job options and opportunities. My advice would be to stick to those options. The work from home option mentioned in the video would be a great possibility.

  • @postmorbus
    @postmorbus26 күн бұрын

    I have had nothing but a fantastic experience with the Canadian health care system and even found it easy to switch GPs when I didn't like my old one. You just have to do the legwork and keep calling around. In the past 8 years I have had neurosurgery, 4 orthopaedic surgeries, a myriad of blood tests/CT scans/MRIs and I have never ever waited more than a couple of weeks for an MRI. I broke my foot last summer and was in/out of the ER in 6 hours. I booked a hysterectomy and the wait time was a month. As someone who has a neurological condition who spends a lot of time navigating the system, I am so grateful for the amazing care I've received. I have nothing but great things to say compared to my American friends who spend hours fighting the human firewalls at their insurance companies only to still owe thousands of dollars. CIsco has an entire department of people who will advocate for their employees so that their employees don't have to sit on the phone arguing with their insurance -- and they pay through the nose for it! A colleague of my husband's lost his baby and when his wife asked for a tissue because she was crying after the loss, they scanned the box of Kleenex before they handed it to them & it cost them $5 on their bill. IDK if it's provincial because a lot of people on the QC side come to ON for care but I have never had a problem here.

  • @postmorbus
    @postmorbus26 күн бұрын

    @@AlainGuillot I think that is a part of the problem as well. So many doctors just don't want to practice there because there are so many hoops. I know a lot of friends who live in Gatineau but whose doctors are in Ottawa. I know that the QC government was complaining about all the money they had to pay out to Ontario doctors because of this but they don't do anything about it. I am sorry to hear you've had such a horrible experience.

    Absolute rubbish. It is completely awful having people as rich as Elon Musk. They obtain more political power than entire nations, and yet they aren't voted for. Why does Musk get to decide how we travel, and communicate, etc.? Because he owns a car company? Margaret Thatcher completely destroyed the UK. The finance sector might have prospered, but certain regions of the UK never recovered.

  • @AlainGuillot
    @AlainGuillot27 күн бұрын

    Elon Musk is rich because people continue putting (voluntarily) money in his pocket. Margaret Thatcher served three terms. Obviously people liked enough what she did during the first two terms to put her in power a third term.

  • @shmalfie8674
    @shmalfie867427 күн бұрын

    @@AlainGuillot Nonsense. No one deserves billions. To argue that it is a natural and normal thing to have someone more powerful than millions of people put together is ludicrous. Margaret Thatcher only cared about money and ruined the heart of the country. On the day of her funeral her death was celebrated. All the UK is now is a hub for investment outside of the UK, never within the country itself. This modern day capitalism does not work.

Studies show that if we change jobs every 1-2 years then salary will soon outpace any raises/promotions you'd get if you had stayed.. so what to do to earn more ? I think it has to be a little of both. If you follow the money, but you don't enjoy your days (your life), then it's not worth it. If you follow your passion but become unable to pay the rent for any extended period, you'll likely either lose self-esteem or become a burden to others. If you have a passion, you are lucky, and I think it's your duty to do your best to explore that route - maybe you have to live more modestly, maybe you have to take on a part-time job, but you might always regret it if you don't "go for it". However, if you're someone who likes having nice things - and you don't dislike doing jobs that make more money - then go for the money.

  • @AlainGuillot

    I think you are right. It's neither black or white, it's different shades of gray. Also, I think Seth Godin will agree 100% with what you just wrote. He has said the same thing, with different words, in some of his books. Thank you.

  • @AlainGuillot

    I think it depends a lot on the emotional baggage we carry. As an immigrant, one of the first jobs I was able to find was as a janitor, I was a janitor for about two years. I had a scarcity mindset and the only thing that was important to me was to survive. There is no room for passion when you feel so grateful to clean offices at 3 am in the morning and being able to pay for food and rent. With time, my passion became to have financial security. I am not there yet, but every day I am a bit closer, and now I can experiment and try to find out what my other passions are.

    I'm curious if there have been any studies or research on at which point a given person becomes "bored" relative to stimuli as compared to another.... realize there isn't a specific criteria at which one would qualify as bored, but I believe that I feel bored often in situations where there are many engagements and stimuli, whereas another may be almost overwhelmed in the same situaiton.

  • @thomasheepke3821
    @thomasheepke3821Ай бұрын

    I appreciate this video and I am the clinical definition of this "diagnosis", Boredom. I do disagree with one point: you mention that boredom results from lack of interaction with external stimuli. I believe some or many are engaged or have the ability to engage at a given point in time, but it's still not fulfilling or enough to overcome boredom. Interested to hear your thoughts on that. Regards.
