The LeFrak Forum at Michigan State University

Founded in 1989 in the Department of Political Science at Michigan State University, the Symposium on Science, Reason, and Modern Democracy and the LeFrak Forum are centers for research and debate on the theory and practice of modern democracy.

We sponsor lectures, conferences, publication, and teaching, as well as graduate, post-doctoral, and senior fellowships. Our specific mission is to explore the intersection of philosophy and public policy: to place theoretical issues in practical context and policy issues in philosophical perspective.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.

I wish Tim Alberta took more of a center stage on the leadership of the evangelical church, although I'm sure plenty have turned their back on him. I do find it disingenuous though that he talks about the SBC raising millions of dollars to send around the world for good causes, but he completely ignores that they spend the money to pay off abuse victims and settle molestation cases brought to church leaders.

Thank you Tim Alberta for painstakingly attempting to rightly apply Biblical truth in a time of Biblical illiteracy. What a blessing you are and I so appreciate how you have been able to explain what has happened to our Christian friends in our culture in the Trump era. But even more important, are some of the answers you gave regarding who Jesus is and why he came and that might be completely new information to a lot of folks. I read your book and have been recommending it to everyone I know. It seems that the people that need to read it the most, might be avoiding it. Time will tell and I’ll just continue to pray for our churches, that they will preach the gospel and not devolve into political rallies. This is not our home and I am so grateful for that reminder! As followers of Jesus we are living for a different Kingdom.

Trump = Constantine a pagan emperor who legalized Christianity and made it the religion of the state in exchange for political power. To secure worldly gains the church was led to seek the favor and support of the state, having rejected Christ, she became corrupt. Faith was transferred from Christ to the state. He showed Christians many favors to win their support( sound familiar). The church became politically powerful and wealthy. Many unconverted pagans joined the church for the political advantages, Christians having once been persecuted they became the prosecutors without the love that comes only from the presence of God ( 20 Centuries of Christianity by Paul Hutchinson). Christians loyal to Christ had to flee Rome (Protestant Reformation). Now history repeats itself with the children returning to the mother. Rev 14:12, Rev 17: 3-6, 18:2-4 “come out of her”. Rev 14:6-11.

I have to respect his choice of words because he has not demonized Trump even though he has done so much harm to people who were in the past decent. It is very frightening how they are using the teachings of a man who gave his life so that we would be put in the right path. I am a born again Christian and I am at this time very distressed because it is painful to see people walking in the wrong direction.

I also like that Tim didn’t demonize Trump although it’s clear to me that Satan controls every aspect of his personhood. And I’m not making any excuses for the Donald. I cringe when I look at him or hear him speak, but the bottom line is that the man is very psychologically ill and unstable and most likely traumatized in childhood. What is even more scary to me is that people who profess to be Christian idolize him. He needs prayer not votes!

Think the wealth gap in America is destabilizing us are so heck bent on destroying America that only a criminal can rescue us.

When people of faith are morally stressed the duplicity within them demands they offset their aggressions with benevolence so they may convince themselves they are actually good people. So when people are fighting with someone they are likely to be exceedingly gracious to another to show themselves they are good.

I could kiss this man. Every point he has made in this presentation is spot on. I dont fit into either political box..Jesus is my north star. I had yo raise five young children as a single mom during the Regan years, received no child support, yet I was pilloried by the Christian communityof my town for not possessing enough faith to somehow heal my marriage to a serial adulterer. It wasmy faith that was lacking, because a real Christian is sucessful and prosperous.I relied on Public Assistance and HUD to survive. I taught K-1 at their Christian School, and loved those kids, and was fired when parents learned of my divorce. The President labeled me " Welfare Queen." No one surviving on a tiny welfare check wants to be in that level of poverty. When my baby started school, I found employment teaching Learning Disabled students in the public school system. I loved those kids. I never remarried, retired a few years ago, and have watched in horror as the Religious Right has fused itself with the political right and morphed into a beast. I was ostricized yet again when I did not hold the extream rhetoric of the Republican Party. I was called Marxist, babykiller, and pure evil for not supporting Trump. I have read extensively on the subject of the Authoritarian movements across the centuries, always paired with a twisted theology to justify atrocity. None of which even remotely smells like Jesus, let alone looks like Him. My position on pro life is lets not make abortion illegal, lets make it unessessary. I know how hard it is to raisea child alone. I so loved your prolife stance. I am ready to flee to a saner nation, because what passes for Christianity in this screwy nation is scary. It is idolotrous at best, and heretical ,even blasphemous, at its core. Bonhoeffer wrote extensively on this, but few paid attention. The shadow of fascism looms over us. Thank you, Tim Alberta. I am reading your latest book now, and have read five others outlining the moment we find ourselves in. God help us. .

God bless you richly, I hear you, and I have experienced much the same. The American church is very sick and has been for a long time. They look to rituals, earthly riches, and "preacher men" instead of Jesus Christ and His Word. May the younger generations forgive us. Men like Alberta are truly princes among us. The masses now want a slanderous, uncouth brute, and so-called Christians are telling them he's God's man... shameful indeed.

I'm not even Christian I'm a Jew. And I was absolutely riveted listening to you. How brilliant you are and putting everything into perspective in a simple way. That when you honor and worship Trump ar15's and ak47's. And the greed for only material things. But claim that your still a evangical Christian even though you have given up on Christ to replace him with Trump and Maga Leaders. You have sold your soul to the Devil and even though you don't think Christ exist anymore God does and even though you've been led astray and have been brainwashed by a Monster yes a Monster he knows he's one he was born that way. I don't know what is coming your way but it can't be good for you or your family what are you going to do take to the streets with an AR15 like Bobert that idiot says that Jesus would arm himself today. How rediculous that sounds. But that's exactly the kind of tripe that has brainwashed you! So again what are you going to do when faced with others with guns and people about to break into your house and drag your family out and slaughter them in front of your eyes is that what you want because everyone will look about the same and you won't be able to tell who's your Democrat enemy or a fellow Maga not at first it will kind of be like the purge or Ukraine. Because if your about to go Civil War on your Enemys they will go Civil War on You!! Is that what you poor brainwashed Magas want to compromise your family's life your wives girlfriend's your innocent children your babies. Before you vote ask yourself am I ready for a Civil War because that's exactly what Trump is Training his Evangical's and Magas for. While Maga Republicans Congress sleep protected by Guards because they can afford them. In their 1800 count sheets all nestled in for the night because they will have no fear of Civil War not on the first night. But Soon Democrats will be coming for them!!
