The railway lines in Turkey South of The Bosphorus were very German ( as they were built by German Interests) They of course didn’t connect to the Northern Lines ( which connected with Europe) Route of The Orient Express
Oxcroft was briefly reopened for roughly 3 weeks in November 2007 in order to sort through any remaining coal tips in the area, although even by that time Seymour Junction Signal box was so badly vandalised that none of the signalling infrastructure could be used, so all points were clamped and all signalling was suspended and the working was done by pilot man
'Tyne - drum' not Tin Drum. Tay - nult, not 'newlt'. Loch Etive, not 'Eetive'. And Balachulish is 'Bala - hoolish' not 'coolish'. Cruachan has the stress on the first syllable.
Absolutely breath-taking - So wonderful to have such forsight to record these movements and this railway in action!
Excellent video
Amazing video. Thank you for bringing it to us 😊
Magnificent !
Excellent !!!
All that's left today is small traces such as trackbeds, lumps of concrete with graffiti pools of stagnant water, burnt out stolen cars and so on. And on the horizon wind turbines spin on as we shell out to shadowy energy spivs.
Excellent and very appreciated memories, R.I.P. Doug!
Excellent, great nostalgia, but very sad scenes.
Great train info, good taste in music and some sound thrash! 🚂👍
Wonderful memories. Thank You
Brilliant Memories. Thank You
Thank you for posting. It is greatly appreciated.
I used to see the Blackburn shit train every weekday about 8 30 as it went through Central station to Thrybergh for tipping, it once started from the signal on platform 2 with a jerk ,the station foreman was standing by it on the crossing between platforms when the wagon next him slopped over the side and he got an unexpected shower, he was sent home on a tractor apparently to get washed and changed.,this was about 1965 66 time when I worked as a junior porter in Central goods yard.
I did that trip many times from 74 to 76 as a Tinsley guard, also been on Grange Lane Station platform as well.
why would u copy that with stupid music playing.
Lovely film. I loved the old DMU's, they were so comfy!
Fabulous and poignent film - very emotional...
What a wonderful presentation of such detail and local knowledge which would probably have been lost otherwise. Of all the 60's line closures this 13 mile stretch from Matlock to Great Rocks is to me one of the most wasteful and shortsighted and when you see what was lost it is heartbreaking.
Would be nice if you could correct the spelling of his name in the title and description (above).
Thank you. :-)
Fantastic record. Excellent transitions from what was to what isn’t anymore. Great work, thank you.
Another wonderful video, all now lost in time. Thank You for sharing the great memories.
Excellent video, Thank You for posting.
Could Iask, Why is the D.M.U. in those colours, as opposed to the B.R. Green with whiskers, ?
IT IS MADE UP. IT USED TO BELONG TO ANOTHER HERITAGE RAILWAY. ON BOARD THE D.M.U. IS A POSTER ASKING FOR DONATIONS TO GET IT RE PAINTED
It used to be owned by telford steam railway however when peak rail bought it they never changed it.
Hi, Our DMU is now owned by one of our long standing volunteers having been purchased and moved from Telford Steam Railway. In due course, we're hoping to paint it, but we have a bit of mechanical and body work to do first. Regular updates can be found on our DMU group Facebook page. facebook.com/share/EegWWitJwufnNCFE/
I rarely collected DMU numbers when I was a train spotting nipper in the mid to late 1960's, too numerous, too boring.
They were just ... " There".... Hundreds of them , then one day they weren't pacers had taken over I know I kind of thought they'd go on forever.
I went from Chapel to Gt. Longstone once with my grandma. That was when my brother was born and they wanted me to out of the house. It probably was a steam train almost everything was then.
All our yesterdays, brings back a lot of memories, King Coal no more.
Excellent!! Oh the memories. Many thanks for posting.
I live 1 mile from coalite. Looks very different now
That’s probably a good thing really. A lot of toxic stuff probably came out of the plant.
Sad passing the faceless warehouses that now stand on the coking works. Was always a well lit up and well known monolith for us M1 regular drivers.
I use to work on Europa Link (Lets Be Avenue) from 2000 to 2015 and the power of choise for the Steel works, now Outokumpo Stainless, across the road where class 66's but one day we had a visit from a mainline steam loco.
Very good. How the river has changed since the 2007 floods. Now all those trees and plants in the water have been removed for a better river flow.
Blast from the past.....2004 to 2005 ish with those "first branded" 158s, I was a conductor working the route when they took over and personally, I hated the blue vinyls spoiling the striking Northern Spirit Red and gold TransPennine variation. When the Phil Sayer voice was replaced at Huddersfield, initially there were complaints until Slaithwaite was re-recorded as "Slawit" The new voice was a colleagues.
Very interesting, worked on what was the site of the Coalite plant 2023whilst under redevelopment, the lingering smell of Turpentine/Creosote was overwhelming at the end of shift. The plant had long gone by this time but must have been an amazing place to work when at its peak. Thanks for posting.
It's nice to see something different. Interesting
A lovely film and narrative, greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Great to see big Phil working woodhouse
I was the T R lad at Beighton jc and shunter at Woodhouse stn then guard at Rotherwood and Barrow hill great memories thanks for sharing 😎👍
I remember going on class 45’s to football, most Leeds United football specials were hauled by class 45’s. When I was a youngan, I wondered what are these locos with the long side panels? The only Class 45 I remember was “The Cheshire Regiment”, It took me and my mates to a Leeds night game, at Sunderland on the 30 December 1976. (we beat Sunderland 1-2) I remember it was a bit snowy that night & there were only about 60 of us on it. This particular loco 45 014 was involved in a fatal accident on 8 March 1986, because of a signal fault, it was scrapped in Manchester later on in 1986.
A lovely film. Thanks for sharing.
Superb historical footage, had us riveted from beginning to the end. Thanks so very much for uploading and sharing these marvellous moments in time, never to be seen again. All the best ...Steve.
Coal in Britain from the 1700s ( horse drawn wooden waggons on wooden tracks or by humans with ropes) to 2023 by a 66 down the Cwmbargoed branch. A fitting end albeit sad.
Well done Stuart. Another great video.
Fantastic, thank you for posting.
The brutalism of Sheffield and calmness of the canals 😊
Another Belter/ For anyone interested in Britains Industrial History. this cam footage and Narration is Essential watching. P.S , I am very Surprised to see so much ` Heavy Industry ` was still hanging -on here as late as 1990- 1993. The Diesel hauled freight train Action set amongst the Industrial surroundings is Brilliant .
SUPERB / GREAT RECORD OF THE RAILWAYS & LINESIDE INDUSTRY THEN AT SHEFFIELD . P.S Dus any 1 know the Gradient from Tinsley Yard Up to the T.M.D ?
Very informative, great history !
